ONE OF MY HEROES
DR. ANTHONY FAUCI
Bravery, courage, and valor.
This is the name of a value. I use a test to identify the 10 top values of a client. These values are never wrong. A person may be a long way from them, may be wandering or lost with these values, but they are always there. And once they are identified and the person is used to the one or two that don’t sound like them, everyone remarks about how much they learn about themselves, and how they never have to ask, “Who am I?”
One of the exercises I use is to ask each client to identify a “hero” who has that same value.
Then we work with the hero as one of the ways of molding and modeling what using that value is like.
My nomination for my own hero of this virtue is Dr. Anthony Fauci. There isn’t anyone who doesn’t know Dr. Fauci today, and most would agree that this value is certainly got to be one of his. I marvel at the way he handles his office for so many years. Whether in a hostile administration or a more rational one, he is unflappable.
He might get caught with a live mic moment, giving his estimation of someone that he wouldn’t use in public, but Dr. Fauci is a man of honor and bravery, courage, and vigilance.
However, sometimes the name you say under your breath needs to be said out loud. That has certainly been the case for President Macron of France.
I can’t imagine having Dr. Fauci’s kind of staying power and being that steady in one’s life. From the AIDS epidemic to this pandemic, he has offered the leadership that could never be paid for. So many times, he has been before the American people evoking us to follow the science.
And the majority of the nation would join me in recognizing the value in Dr. Fauci.
A value gives us steadiness and resolution when the world around us shakes and rolls. But Dr. Fauci has been especially the object of abuse and offensiveness. He remains absolutely attached to and coming from his values. I admire him greatly. He serves for me as a person who models the value of bravery, courage, and valor, and guides me in my own expression of it. This doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have times when he questions himself and seeks to examine his life in a way that is not dismissive of criticism but mindful of it.
I am grateful for Dr. Fauci for all he has taught me and for the model he is. I feel firmer and more solid listening to him and watching how he functions. I wish I could do it as well. But wishing will not get me there. Making decisions and taking action guided by this value does, and the more I do, the happier I am.
That’s the case with values - we are our happiest when we are in line with and following our values by letting them speak their truth within us. He is not one of the many fake faces shouting in the wind and saying nothing anyone remembers.
Thank you, Dr. Fauci. And at his age, he makes growing toward the 80’s much less daunting. He is as courageous and shows as much valor as Betty White showed her talent and the value of laughter and delight in the world. I pray for his continued health and safety and that the world can open closed minds and hear him.

THE SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES….
….is WRONG in the decision NOT to require owners of businesses over 100 to require that their workers are vaccinated.
And this is why.
The basis of law is not a morality based on anything but this:
The highest order of law is to insure the value of human life.
It is not to insure the value of individual rights first. Individual rights are subject to the same morality: the value of human life.
An employer is responsible for the health of his/her employees in the workplace when there is a vaccine that protects other workers from getting a disease because they are not vaccinated.
Vaccination is a requirement to work alongside others.
It is a moral requirement.
If that right means that I have to become vaccinated to insure that others will not get coronavirus from me, my individual rights surrender to the good of my co-workers. I cannot hold others in jeopardy because I want my individual rights insured by not being vaccinated.
I don’t use this virus as a cause to declare my individual rights.
To the contrary, this virus insures my rights for those around me. My individual rights are insured only when they do not destroy the rights of others to live a healthy life. Another person’s healthy life does not bow to my individual rights.
That employer has the moral responsibility to make sure the workplace contains the safety that all who work there are vaccinated.
It is not the law that is the moral truth; it is moral truth that informs the making and the nature of the law.

My Individual Rights Are?
What are they?
What do you think they are, these “individual rights” that allow you to say “I do whatever I please,” or “no one is going to push me around, no one is going to take away my rights.” Your reasoning has evolved to what I would call stage 4. You have gotten to a place where you got away with doing this in one way or another. Even you believe that you have individual rights that can’t be crossed. Write them down. What are they?
Your individual rights are accountable to what, to whom, to what standard? You have some lame idea of your personal identity, and no one is going to challenge that. You may have had a few people you could bully, you may have been able to isolate, or you may have been able to be top dog where you wouldn’t be too challenged so that the way you reason could not be called into question. This virus is calling that into question. The government charged with protecting the greater good or the public is doing that. You do not have the personal right to refuse the vaccination if you can carry the virus. You will carry it and give it to someone you love and you will be filled with sorrow and pity. Something like that.
The reality that I may carry the virus even when I am vaccinated doesn’t mean that I should not get vaccinated; to the contrary: it is all the more reason to get it.
Our individual rights stop at the point in which they infringe on the freedoms of another person, but especially in the matter of life and death. Your refusal to be vaccinated does not excuse you from passing the virus on to someone else, from helping it expand and grow beyond you. We belong to a larger community and the basis of my freedom is not doing the things that endanger that community. My individuality depends upon others who make it possible. I never do it on my own. Their lives depend on me, especially in a pandemic. If I am vaccinated, others are less likely to get it from me, and I am not going to die but have a much lighter case, if I contract it at all.
This is NOT only an argument about a vaccine. It is about how we live together. What kind of regard and what kind of reasoning allows that to happen? What kind of reasoning enables one family, one country, and one world? I do not get vaccinated just for myself, I do it for the larger good as well. I do it for the community of people who depend on my well-being. You are only an individual because there is a community supporting that individuality; you don’t ever become it or do it on your own. However, you pride yourself on being an individual, and however you justify it, try doing it all by yourself. It never happens. I am myself, but I am also a unique blend of all those around me who have influenced and guided me, who guard me, and who have put up with me and loved me.
The whole planet is in a transition from being individuals to belonging to a larger human race of an entire planet.

YOU ARE WRONG
Tumblr media
You think getting vaccinated is an infringement on your individual liberties?
YOU ARE WRONG
It is time for President to Biden tell the nation that vaccination is not a personal freedom if you want to be a free American. It is not a matter of individual rights, it's a matter of having to recognize the greater good of the democracy and the health of the larger community. If you want to be an American, get a vaccination. At this point it is not a matter of individualism or individual rights. The moral choice is what is a world emergency and for democracy, which guarantees the rights of all, so individual rights can be a part of a larger America. The virus, at this point, does the greatest damage to those yet unvaccinated. Then you pass it to the ones you love and bemoan their loss at your responsibility in passing it to them. There is case after case.
The sons and daughters of the citizens of this country have given their lives and shed their blood to sustain the Republic. This small decision to get a vaccine is a small one in comparison. All that most sacrifice is a little self-pride and misplaced self-righteousness.
Those of you who maintain this position largely argue that it is an infringement on your individual liberties. The infringement is the growing coronavirus toll on this country and the world. Following this moral imperative is not a centralization of authority that signals marching into a totalitarian state. You march us closer to that kind of control by your stubborn resistance and ignorance of the importance of this one small act. You do not have, by your individual freedom, the right to lessen mine or anyone else’s freedom for the sake of what you think you believe. Give it up and stop making this an issue. You are morally wrong.
It took more than 50 years to get a vaccine for polio. In great gratitude, get in the line to get the shots you need, or do it just because you have to.
This resistance to a vaccine in the name of your rights points to the kind of selfishness that is a greater enemy. All that matters is this blind call to “me, me, me and my supposed needs”. Your need is to get vaccinated. And whether or not you understand it, this is not a matter of a personal choice. It is matter of what must be done for the health of others and ourselves, and to preserve the freedoms that are a part of the larger community to which we belong and have this obligation.

CONVERSATIONS THAT CHANGE US FOREVER
There are conversations that change us forever.
There are conversations that have made us who we are. Those conversations anchor us throughout our lives.
And we return to them to find who we are.
Who do you share them with?
What were you doing when you did?
What was this guide's striking characteristic?
What made them different?
You stopped your usual banter and didn't defend yourself.
If you did, it was short-lived, you forgot it, or you had to stop it.
You stopped defending yourself. You stopped blaming.
You stopped that sputtering thought and talk, and you listened.
At some point, you simply talked as "you," with as little pretense as you knew how to use.
Honestly, forthrightly and simply, you were just "you."
......And you dropped anchor.

Too Hot To Handle
Your life was too hot to handle. You couldn’t do it any longer. Sleepless nights and anxious days and always wondering who saw, who knew, who could tell.
One day you told them; you were gone. Work, school, a job that was the best job, a career start and you were primed and supposed to be good. It got the best of you. Even if you are still there pretending.
You talk to a therapist about it. You took pills and stopped because they made you………not what you thought and not helpful. One a day in the toilet because everyone thinks you need it every day for ………who knows how long?
Since then, not much, nothing really. And you have this knot that has not moved much.
But who are you, what can you be, what can you do? What can you handle?
You can live at home. You can be the adult child they will never get rid of, and they feel useful.
They are parents again and they haven’t realized that you’re hiding - well, resting.
What happened?
There is a myth where an old man sleeps, the leader of the village. He dropped his fish in the fire and since then, because he was the leader of the town, nothing happens. The fields are fallow, and the women bear no children. Nothing happens in this village of nothing. People walk like they are wandering, and they are. As legend has it.
A myth is just that. It is a story full of symbols and meanings and life secrets.
And the fullness of this one is in King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
It’s called Parsifal. His journey is everyone’s. It is all too hot to handle when we are young and know we can succeed and do the job. And we get it. And we lose it in one way or another. We drop the fish in the fire, and we can’t get it back; the fire is too hot to handle.

UNEQUAL ACCESS TO THE PROMISES OF FREEDOM…⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣Is the result of a “law & order” mentality of self-righteous ignorance & hubris.
”Law & order” that is not based on moral reasoning is a betrayal of American democracy & the morality that informs law. ⁣
⁣The result is havoc & bigotry, lies about who we are and what we stand for. ⁣
⁣We are in a huge TRANSITION; it is our brains that will change, a new mind that reasons to insure equal access to the fruits of freedom.

DENYING THE NEGATIVES… OR BUILDING THE POSITIVES? Build and enhance positive emotional neuropathways, in the brain, pay less and less attention to unnecessary negatives, and bring their truth and untruth to the light. Let a growing positivity manage all of the negativity. This isn’t another form of denial.✅ Denying negativity or “wrapping it in positivity” is exactly what will backfire, increase a sense of threat, and in the process, actually grow the negative real estate of your brain even more deeply.✅ www.gotoani.com (760) 459-3953 #denial #positivity #neuroscience #brain #coaching https://ift.tt/2rYP8tR

PAST OR FUTURE? WHERE ARE YOU? The power of “now” is radically affected by the nature of the draw of the future, away from the hold of the past. WHAT’S NEW IN YOUR LIFE…OR NOT? The kind of learning that most challenges the brain to evolve is novelty. An entire half of your brain, the right hemisphere, is built to handle novelty-new learning, new experiences, new perspectives, evolving wisdom. A lot of people keep learning but it is just another version of what they already hold to be true, it is learning that agrees or supports their present view of the world. Holding on to the “brick” that’s familiar? Any wonder you may feel stuck?
