being very online but not Mainstream Online is so perplexing. wake up one day. timeline blowing up because allegedly popular streamer Dingleberry Dan was revealed to be blending small woodland creatures into his daily protein shakes every day for 7 years. you look him up. Dingleberry Dan is the all time most popular Bejeweled Deluxe and Snhebbles Return streamer in the world. he has 67 million subscribers on youtube and 41 million followers on twitter. there are countless friends on your timeline going "i'm absolutely mortified about Dingleberry Dan's horrible critter emulsification atrocities" and "i'm really not at all surprised about Dingleberry Dan's behavior but still disappointed" in 50/50 equal measure. and in 3 days people with the 🆖 emoji in their handle will defend him like their life depends on it by saying he's integral to internet culture and he's being unfairly cancelled. and then in like 4-5 years people will occasionally bring up "hey remember when Dingleberry Dan straight up admitted to turning bunnies and squirrels into slurry every day and people still kept supporting him and he's still a multimillionaire" but nothing really happens other than that

Reading all these posts about Captain Carter and I’m just sad that Marvel doesn’t seem to care about Steve. Ever since his godawful ending in EG, they had been mocking him or ridiculing him, and it seems the only thing left of him or even worth talking about is his relationships with other characters. It hurts to see that Marvel won’t use his legacy to inspire and try to carry on his beliefs and the reasons he fought for.

They’re only using him as a prop to lift PC up and turn her into a female Steve and in doing so they’re proving the only thing that ever mattered to them about Steve was that he had the serum and he could kick ass with his shield. Sam had a couple scenes in TFATWS where he proved he’s a wonderful successor to Steve and shares his same morality, but we haven’t seen him since and now Steve’s legacy is what… PC going around and using his name to act like everybody has to treat her like they treated him? Steve never showed up with his shield and expected people to follow him. They followed him because they heard him talk, they saw him act, and they could tell there was a hero underneath the red, white and blue. He tends to inspire so many people because he’s Steve, not Captain America.

And yet, there is nothing left of Steve now in Marvel. He’s not Stark, who can be remembered by handing over some of his tech to a young woman because there wasn’t much of Stark to inspire people other than his work and his tech. Steve’s legacy is his heart and he’s so much more than his relationship with other characters. But I suppose the Hero Cinematic Universe can’t be bothered with one of their best heroes and they’d rather insist on forcing their pitiful PC instead.

The point of getting rid of the death penalty isn’t that there are some innocent people on it. The point of prison abolition isn’t that there are some innocent people in prison.

The point is that the state shouldn’t have the power to kill people. The point is that the prison system commits systemic abuses of human rights, doesn’t reduce crime, is deeply racist, and doesn’t take the desires of the victims into account. To argue about whether one individual on death row or with a life sentence is innocent or guilty is just a distraction from the central issues, which is that these institutions are unjust and should not exist
