Tanya Zabinski makes screen prints that are based on verbs inspired by people. The word “wonder” was inspired by scientist and writer, Rachel Carson, who studied the ocean.

Collage I made during Saba Taj’s demo. They encouraged me to have the images play off of each other and interact.

“Junkanoo Rosa” by Blair Gray
Form: Mixed Media
Subject: a quilted 2D piece with 3 large, abstracted faces on the left and smaller flora and faces to the right. This piece utilizes bright colors and patterns to render its subjects.
Content: As defined in the “About the work” caption, this piece is referencing Junkanoo, “a Bahamaian cultural celebration that includes dance, music, spirituality, and a celebration of freedom.” In it we see colors of the Bahamian flag 🇧🇸, potentially representing pride. Furthermore, the patterns of the smaller faces creates a rhythm that the eyes dance to as they move across the piece.

Moonlight (2016) impacted me deeply. Chiron’s story and the way in which it was rendered visually was very well done. Every scene seemed to be visually based on a certain color or type of light which would evoke deeper emotions towards the scene as a whole. The diner scene, where Chiron and Kevin reunite as adults, brings up feelings of warmth, love, and nostalgia. The golden lighting further emphasizes the feeling of longing and desire that still exists between these two men.
