Reminder that Jasnah started the series with nearly every noteworthy assassin on Roshar on her payroll. She canonically knew that her brother and her father were such eminently murderable people that she had to pay an entire profession to leave them alone.
Imagine if she'd made it to the Shattered Plains on schedule, with Elhokar being as paranoid as he was.
Elhokar: *muttering darkly* The assassins will surely return for me.
Jasnah: *without looking up from her book* Don't worry, I'm paying them not to.
Elhokar: "... All of them?"
Jasnah: "I'll send you the invoices."

Mod Riina has been removed from the blog. Me and the other mods talked and her behavior on Lumar was completely inexcusable. I can't believe she'd be so dumb as to let Hoid Connect with our group. Oh yeah and the rat thing wasn't cool either I guess.

SYSTEM FOOD REVIEW #31
System: U'tol
The local chouta was good enough. They have some really interesting plants here, but they also have some staple grains in case you're a picky eater. There's this ramen shop on Komashi you HAVE to try if you're in the area. I want sure about it because there were some weird looking bugs outside but the inside was clean and the food was to die for.

when reading the way of kings, adolin struck me as "aromantic and absolutely clueless about it". he didn't strike me as acespec - he clearly has no problems with his sexuality - so perhaps the specific way he acts is less immediately recognisable as arospec, but to me, at least, his total failure in romantic relationships seems very much like a young man who knows that he's supposed to be romancing young women, but cannot for the life of him understand how to do it. and he doesn't understand why it never works out, because once he gets past the initial stage of "girl hot", he never really wants to do any more than be friends with the woman he's courting. thus all his "dates" are abysmal, because he genuinely doesn't get that the women he's courting want to do conventionally romantic things with him, and that giving them a tour of the war camps or talking about horses (which register to him as fun friend activity -> basically romance, right?) is not, in fact, romantic. he doesn't feel romantic attraction, and lacks the framework both for engaging with typically romantic activities and understanding that he doesn't experience romantic attraction, so he just assumes everyone else feels the same way he does (sex + friendship). he has so many exes, all of whom seem to grasp that there's something he's not doing right, yet he doesn't seem to realise this. it would also go some way in explaining why he's so chill about being betrothed to a stranger he's never met - yay, my cousin is sorting out Romance (TM) for me! now i don't have to figure out how to get a woman to love me! shallan is refreshing - and relieving - for him precisely because she's fine doing friend activities with him, so he doesn't have to struggle with an attraction he doesn't feel. and whether he genuinely does fall in love with shallan, but it takes a close emotional bond, or if he's just happy to be married to a hot friend for the rest of his life, that's very much not how the rest of the world does things.

A comic about Szeth and cooking. Or that's what it's going to about. Part 1/4.
(In case it wasn't clear, Nale is 100% just messing with him. Honestly they both kinda are.)

I don't get why people in any sort of online discussion answering a question will comment what an AI has told them.
Like thanks for providing me a piece of information that everyone involved could easily get themselves without this forum full of people knowledgable about the topic, is completely unreliable, and doesn't even give an opinion that you are actually accountable for. You might as well begin your comment with "I'm pretty sure my uncle once told me that..." maybe then I could actually track down a human who can defend this piece of misinformation.

Survivor above, this cosmere war is ruined. I just heard a guy clap his hands together and shout "I am unity" or some similar crem and every one around him got pulled into the spiritual realm. The camera didn't even go onto to him, that's how common crem like this is. My alloy is steel-pushing coins and burning pewter. I think I just heard "crimson spore grenade" two groups over. I gotta storming get outta here man.

I know that some British people take umbrage at Americans calling the Great British Bake Off relaxing, but it's just because GBBO is such a different kind of stressful from American baking shows.
American baking shows will be called something like "Cupcake Knife Fight", there's horror movie lighting everywhere and dramatic stings every 5 seconds. All of the contestants are shit talking each other and fist fighting over the one single deep fryer provided by production. It will show the judges all whispering to each other at their super villain table overlooking the whole kitchen, and one will be like, "Oh my god. Everyone look at Brenda right now. She's straight tanking it." And it will cut to Brenda, who is running around covered in flour and crying and also bleeding for some reason. Then you get a clip from an interview with one of the contestants, and they're like, "I really need to win this. Without this award money, I'm gonna need to close my restaurant, sell my dad, and live out of my car. AGAIN." Then the giant digital doomsday clock overhead lets out a horrid klaxon, the judges tell half of them that their cupcakes taste disgusting, and one of them gets eliminated and sent to walk down the dramatically-lit shame hallway never to be seen again.
Meanwhile GBBO is in a lovely, brightly colored tent, there are delightful and friendly hosts/jesters there to keep everyone entertained, and all of the B Roll is of like... a bumblebee going into a flower, or a lamb running in a field. And yes, there will be moments where someone will mess up their timing or something, and they'll be looking at their bake through the oven door like, "oh gosh I don't think this will rise in time!" Then they stand up to find Paul Hollywood directly behind them ominously. His creepy whitewalker eyes will glow white, and he'll say something like "the 12th of June. 2035. Drowning." And his eyes will go back to normal and he'll walk away. Then the baker gives a playful grimace to the camera and says "that didnt sound great, did it?". Cut to a sweet looking older woman sipping tea on a stool and she says "oo I do hope that Prue enjoys the taste of my sugary, sticky baps!". Then, at the end, someone gets a gold star for doing good, and the loser of the episode gets in the middle of a giant group hug. You see all of them at the end of the series at a giant carnival with their families and the post credits informs you that all of the contestants have become a Partridge Family-style traveling band and stayed friends forever.

I'm mostly enjoying the Murderbot show, but it really seems to be trying to avoid the leftist politics at every turn.
The book's Preservation Alliance is has a functional socialist system that's constantly portrayed as a better place to live than the Corporation Rim. They have the ability to provide basic necessities like food and education to their people, without monetizing them.
In the show, when asked how they can afford to do that, they answer "debt" and "scientific endeavor", implying the reason they're on this mission is to pay off debts and do research on behalf of the company. Meaning they're having to send one of their planetary alliance's leaders and some of their top scientists to do dangerous work for a company they disagree with.
In the books, they're on the survey instead because they're deciding if the planet's worth buying, implying they're growing and self sufficient, rather than barely getting by with debt.
In the books, PreservationAux is a team of competent scientists. In the show, they're repeatedly portrayed as naive hippies.
Did the company get editorial oversight on the show?

My Wind and Truth hot take is that the ending makes me less interested in the next six books, not more excited. Everything seems completely stuck - the surviving places not under Retribution's control are now forbidden to interfere with the rest of the world, and there's not enough of them for the stories of what they're doing alone to be interesting. Retribution's ambitions now turn to the rest of the Cosmere, which makes me interested to see how those wars play out in other books, but if the Stormlight series wants to be mildly self contained, I don't see how this can really be part of the next plot.
The big hanging threads for the defeat of Retribution are his Shards leaving him or turning against each other, him changing philosophy after seeing Dalinar was right, and attacks from other Shards or other worlds. I want to know where these go, but none really involve any of the main heros.
