exactly!!!! people who hate tig bc grayson was sidelined and done dirty truly missed the entire point of the book and grayson's character because what???? all of the comments towards jlb when grayson is mentioned is "grayson's happiness/why isn't grayson happy yet/can grayson win and be endgame now that he's healing and to make him happy" and it's???????? i frankly don't have enough question marks. what would have been inconsistent was if he flipped a switch and became happy instantaneously, which people believe would have happened if avery had "given him a chance" because they're soulmates simply because she understands HIM and they have some overlap of travel involved in their lives (news flash, jameson is a traveler too! and his kind of travel made sense for avery to be a partner for). his happiness is hard earned because he is his biggest and most stubborn roadblock. his journey is about the tiniest wins because for a character like himself, who has suppressed and been emotionally unavailable his whole life, is not going to see any big changes for at least another decade because he is unlearning himself and learning to let go. it's his biggest challenge because he has built his entire life on being closed off and unfeeling. you shouldn't want it to immediately change! you should want it to be gradual because it makes the most sense for him.
and the best thing is that jlb has already stated that healed or not, he will never be enough for avery in a romantic sense. and that's okay! neither are xander or nash or literally anyone else on the planet. likewise, jameson will never be enough for grayson's future love interest, max, whoever. he's not supposed to be.
idk but saying jennifer lynn barnes sucks at writing romance because your ship wasn't canon is beyond hilarious to me like okay???? HAHHAHAHA. everyone has their own preferences of course but the vehement hatred for jlb and the belittlement of her writing on booktok and bookstagram (sometimes on here) has been ASTOUNDING.
a note about the "poorly done romance/love triangle" in tig: jlb never said it was going to be "even". no one ever said that. personally pioneering the idea that one character was "not given a chance" does not make it a poorly written love triangle or a poorly written romance. in love triangles, there is usually ALWAYS one option who is simply NOT a real option. look me in the eye and tell me characters jeremiah fisher, aspen in the selection series, gale hawthorne, adam kent, jacob black, and i'm sorry but grayson hawthorne amongst a myriad of others were actual contenders for the main character. if you believed they are/wanted them to be, that's great! but all of these characters are in well known love triangles and at the end of the day, books with love triangles WILL sell because they generate conversation and hype around the book. it is a marketing tactic and you are NEVER promised equal opportunity from both love interests. you losing the love triangle or that you believe there is wasted potential doesn't mean bad writing has occurred. also, for the love of god, while you are supposed to relate to a character, you are not the main character!! belly, america, katniss, juliette, avery, what have you, all chose based on who they are as characters. and also, female characters don't have to "experience" both love interests to make a decision. if they want to, that's totally fine, but specifically about avery bc this is what this blog is all about, she absolutely knows what she's "missing out" on with grayson and she doesn't care. shipping averygrayson just blatantly feels like ignoring avery's wants and needs.
anyway, if you want to call jlb's writing poorly done bc you didn't get your way, that's totally fine. you are entitled to your own opinion. it's just funny that you say that bc had grayson and avery been randomly thrown together in the epilogue of tfg or something, i have a feeling you wouldn't be of this opinion.
tldr; love triangles are a marketing tactic and you are neither entitled to a win nor is is poorly done/executed if you lose. love triangles, more often than not, have a clear winner from the beginning (coughcough "see? you're already his") but the debate and drama of another character sells the book.

and if/when "what happens in the tree house" is a flashback from when they were kids (a continuation of the prologue of the brothers hawthorne when tobias reveals the gargantuan and elaborate tree house for the boys at christmas or a different short story around that time or later where they're being The Boys) and then it switches back in present day and avery is admiring it and exploring it and jameson tells her that when they start a family/have kids, he'll build a tree house like this for them......... what will become of me?????

jlb saying one of her favorite parts is writing avery through JAMESON'S eyes (when asked about the averyjameson romantic moments in the brothers hawthorne) because throughout tig, we're seeing the world, the brothers, jameson, all through avery's eyes and now in the brothers hawthorne we're going to see moments of jameson looking at avery when she's not looking and getting how he feels...... oh gosh this woman does not want me to survive

bigger than the whole sky is SUCH a toby hawthorne song because my favorite interpretation of it (and my personal interpretation) is how it's grieving the loss of the version of themselves they only had a short amount of time due to the traumas that they experienced. it's TOBY losing the version of himself that he could have had, the person he would've been, could've been, and should've been had he not found out he wasn't actually a hawthorne, or had they just told him the truth from the beginning. it's grieving the person he would have been had he stayed with hannah and forgiven himself long enough to give her the world in the short time she had, the person he could have been had he been a father to avery (and she who shall not be named) like he's always wanted. bigger than the whole sky and could've, would've, should've are tethered, and the give me back my girlhood (boyhood), it was mine first just HITS. oh, and you're on your own, kid is also his song. and anti-hero. yeah yeah yeah

oh my god this is so funny the exact use of machiavellian to describe jameson here and then taylor swift read my mind and said "i'm only cryptic and machiavellian 'cause i care"
haven't been particularly active on here because #life but does purposefully misinterpreting things and twisting them in order to fit your narrative that avery and jameson are toxic not get tiring? they can't have a love confession or any feelings of insecurities—genuine & honest means of communication—without it being deemed manipulative? jameson is somehow both too arrogant/thinks he's better than someone else and too machiavellian when it comes to avery?

can we talk about how so many songs on midnights (+ midnights (3 am edition) are averyjameson songs? snow on the beach, labyrinth, sweet nothing, mastermind, the great war, paris, glitch, hits different? but specifically labyrinth and mastermind because?? walk with me here.
uh oh, i'm falling in love oh no, i'm falling in love again oh, i'm falling in love i thought the plane was going down how'd you turn it back around?
bold is avery, regular is jameson, and it's just SO beautiful. avery can't believe she's falling in love because like her mom, she never thought she needed romance, never understood what it felt like for one person to be her everything. with jameson, it was her keeping her at arm's length, trying his hardest to act like she was just a game and a mystery so that if he missed his chance in tig or most of all, that grayson loves avery and avery loves him back (because in his mind, who wouldn't choose grayson, especially over him?), he wouldn't get hurt. but he's falling in love again (and this time it's so much different because it's avery kylie grambs, and with everything that she is, how could he not love her?). i thought the plane was going down / how'd you turn it back around? is my favorite, though, because as nash and grayson said, jameson was self destructive and he was one bad idea away from ruining his life but god, avery made him feel something again, and dare i say, something he has never felt before (because he never truly loved emily)? he didn't want to solve the mystery without avery in tig, and cleaned up his act through thl and tfg. he stopped drinking, he opened up, he knew with every fiber of his being he was capable of horrible things, but because of avery, there are things too precious to gamble. she gave him a purpose again, maybe even for the first time? "i can't hate him, avery kylie grambs, because he brought me you"????
and mastermind?????
what if i told you none of it was accidental and the first night that you saw me i knew i wanted your body
avery "i don't believe in destiny or fate—i believe in choice" and "but unlike toby, i had no regrets. i would have done it—all of it—all over again" grambs?? (and tobias hawthorne wow)
and
no one wanted to play with me as a little kid so i've been scheming like a criminal ever since to make them love me and make it seem effortless this is the first time i've felt the need to confess and i swear i'm only cryptic and machiavellian 'cause i care
if these isn't the most jameson hawthorne lyrics that have ever been written?? it's so funny because everyone complains about him being cryptic and not making any sense with his riddles, being some kind of criminal showing up through fireplaces?? and he wanted so badly for emily to choose HIM but felt deep down that she loved grayson? that everyone loved grayson.
don't even get me started on anti-hero. and avery is you're on your own, kid?? but you're on your own, kid is also toby?? and oh my gosh, bigger than the whole sky is avery and toby ???? that's a post in and of itself. i have some grayson/nash/xander ones too AHH.
i'm absolutely feral this is gonna be an ongoing series ok bye

thinking about grayson hawthorne's healing including sleeping in until noon often and consistently only to sit by the pool all day suntanning just because he can?? his work from home days where he'll sit in on zoom meetings in a button down but sweats just bc no one will see him. him adopting both a dog and a cat when he goes to the shelter one random tuesday because they just Speak To Him. staying up until 3 am binge watching criminal minds and showing up at the foundation with dark circles under his eyes and everyone is concerned but he's like no it's FINE i just finished a season of criminal minds. for once in his life, he doesn't feel the weight of the world on his shoulders. he doesn't have a never ending mental to-do list. he wakes up and makes his morning tea and makes time to read for leisure and tries so hard to stick to his tbr because #structure but he finds out he's the biggest mood reader.

one of my favorite things about tig is kinda niche but avery's always like "jameson winchester hawthorne" and a new favorite is calling him "hawthorne" but in grayson's pov, jameson's just his annoying little brother jamie <3 jamie's such an adorable nickname idk
