Okay so like many of you, I’m devastated about how things played out. But one thing keeps sticking out to me. At first I was genuinely pissed when Archie said to Jackson “it felt bad” or “wrong” when he hooked up with Betty after her nightmare when he assumed it was a booty call and felt like more.
I think what he actually meant was it felt bad being with Betty more intimately while knowing he was feeling things for Veronica. Like he hadn’t considered how this could get complicated before and now suddenly he is realizing there are implications to their actions?
idk! it just seemed like a very weird/out of place thing for him to say otherwise.

Okay but hear me out. Betty is about to be overwhelmed with darkness and she’s just giving up her supposed “light in the window” in Archie? That makes no sense. She knows how much she’s going to need him so she’s pushing him away. Especially knowing he has feelings for Veronica again. She‘s so afraid of him picking V over her again that she decided to end things before he could? I truly don’t understand how they could frame it like she was just all vacation and escape with him and how they “should“ work but don’t. When she was talking to Kevin it seemed very apparent that she was feeling a lot and she was afraid of it being ruined.

incendiary: (adjective) designed to cause fires
Post 5x06 speculation fic with the aftermath of Archie's house fire and Betty's discovery at the swamp. Betty and Archie can pretend this thing they're doing is still casual, but after tonight, will either of them actually believe that?

Sweet Home, Riverdale
writeme
Summary:
Barchie AU: Betty left Riverdale nine years ago and if it were up to her, she'd probably stay gone forever. Since leaving she's found the life she'd always imagined for herself. Graduated from Yale, top of her class at the FBI Academy, and a successful fiance. There's just one little problem she has to take care of first. One she hasn't thought of in eight years. **Loosely based on the plot of Sweet Home Alabama.

I say Riverdale makes me mad a lot, but I’m kind of enraged at how they’ve handled mental illness lately (mainly in regards to Betty and Archie)
Betty just escaped from a mental institution where she was drugged. She literally just escaped and not a single person (including her boyfriend and best friends) will discuss that with her. She was literally traumatized. Not only was she put there by her mother, but no one even knew/cared that she was missing, and we’ve just glossed over that… Where is her help? She has gone through so so much. She needs help. She needs THERAPY. Betty is no longer perfect and that’s okay, but like show that. Tell a story with that.
Don’t put her through shit for ‘shock value’.
Archie was literally imprisoned by his girlfriend friend’s dad after being his assistant of sorts for a whole season. Then he is stabbed and branded and later attacked by Penny Peabody and a FUCKING bear while running from said girlfriend’s father. He was abused season one by a pedophile, has obvious PTSD from the blackhood attacks (he was buried alive, watched his father get shot, and almost died to protect Betty) and now all this bullshit. He gets back and no one gives a shit. Everyone is worried because he isn’t the exact same as before. No one is asking him how he is or what they can do to help him adjust and it’s absolutely ridiculous. And they are finally acknowleding that bc of this trauma he’s turning to something (alcohol) for comfort. But it’s probably never gonna go anywhere bc like Betty’s whole Adderall storyline it’ll be swept under the rug with some 'romantic ’ moment.
Give Betty and Archie time. Give them therapy. LET THEM BE SINGLE. They need to be focused on themselves and healing. Betty needs to get the fuck out of her emotionally abusive house. Let them be happy. (End rant lol sorry)

Doors of Perception
by @barchied / Kate
Prompt:  “Tell me you don’t have feelings for me. Tell me that right here, right now, standing this close to me that you feel nothing for me. Tell me!”
AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/17649569
When he opens the door, it doesn’t lead him to his bedroom. He doesn’t find his sleeping form tucked in his bed waiting to be destroyed by this tougher, darker version of himself. Instead, he sees the door of her house. Just like he had what seemed like a lifetime ago now. In a further moment of deja vu, he watches as the door opens and Betty comes out wearing that same pink dress she’d worn to the dance. The one, he realizes now, she was wearing in the vision he’d just had of his friends in the cabin, encouraging him to play. He doesn’t have time to unpack that yet because she’s striding toward him both confident and nervous and he remembers this moment with such stark clarity that he knows what’s coming next.
His heart is beating in his ears as she speaks. Tells him she isn’t going to ask what happened with him and Veronica at Cheryl’s and he has to stifle a laugh because in the grand scheme of everything that seems so insignificant and faraway now. But then she’s asking him that question he got wrong the first time and it’s suddenly crystal clear why his subconscious has sent him back to this moment. “I’m asking if you love me…” The tears stinging her eyes are enough to break his heart all over again.

Cold Rain, Warm Hearts
by writeme
Prompts:
Archie can’t stop looking at Betty. Sexual tension and maybe some rain with soggy clothes
Its raining and they are both freezing form their drenched clothes
AO3
Betty had never intended on returning to Riverdale after graduating from college. When she’d headed off to NYU four years ago, she’d had this vision of herself leaving and never looking back. Sure, there were people she loved in Riverdale; it wasn’t them she wanted to escape from, but too much had happened to her here. She was in desperate need of a fresh start. Besides, those people could visit her in whatever new life she’d manage to start. But, as for the town itself? It was toxic. Yet, like a bad relationship; it always seemed to draw her back. The plan, at least in the beginning, had been for Jughead to join her in New York after two years at the community college in Palmdale. Universities were expensive and it wasn’t like scholarship committees were tripping over themselves to give a full ride to a known gang leader. However, after far less than a year into being away from each other, it was clear that their priorities were no longer aligned. Jug had become fully immersed in the Serpents and with new subsets opening up in towns surrounding Riverdale; his life had quickly become consumed by his obligations to them. They’d grown apart long before mutually deciding to call it quits and as far as break ups with your first requited love went, it had gone as well as could be expected.

Tale As Old As Time
By hitchhikersguidetotheuniverse
Prompts:
Archie gives Betty his Letterman jacket.
Jughead’s POV. They think he doesn’t pick up on the looks they exchange. But he does.
They think that he doesn’t notice the looks that they exchange. The ones that say I love you without the words. The ones that say I’m here if you need me. And the ones that say things he doesn’t even want to think about.
Jughead has always known that he was a placeholder. He and Betty were never going to last - mysteries were the only thing they had in common. Even a town like Riverdale could run out of secrets.
The boy and girl next door were meant to be - it was inevitable that Archie and Betty would have the kind of love story that people write stories about.
He’s not bitter, not anymore, at least. Maybe the first month or so, back when they first started ‘secretly’ dating, as if no one knew and no one could tell that the stars had aligned and Archie and Betty were one.
Jughead remembers the first time he caught a look. It was only a short one, but it was there, and as much as he tried, he couldn’t ignore the sinking feeling in his stomach.
Later, Kevin smirked over burgers and milkshakes at Pop’s, looking and Veronica and Jughead over the table like a cat that got the cream. ‘Endgame. I told you. I told everyone. No one believed me. Well, the jokes on them. Endgame. I knew it.’
Jughead feels sick all over again.
It’s only several months later when Archie and Betty actually tell everyone that they’re dating. They seem so flustered and excited and happy that Jughead can’t bring himself to be jealous, or hate either of them.
He’s okay with it.
The looks though, the looks. Jughead thinks that they need a censor. Maybe an alarm that goes off every time Archie and Betty exchange a look so full of emotion that Veronica and Jughead have to stop themselves from laughing. Or puking. Or maybe both.
But he’s okay with it. He really is.
So when he sees Archie give Betty his Letterman jacket, the one thing that Archie had once sworn to never part with, Jughead realises that he isn’t okay. Not even one bit.
It doesn’t help that Betty wears that jacket everywhere. It’s always around her shoulders, or in her bag or locker. If you find Betty and Archie, chances are you’ll find that jacket.
Jughead hates it. He hates it and hates it and hates it.
He hates that Archie and Betty look so right together. He hates how the jacket ties the two of them together.
But most of all, he hates how deep down he knew it would happen. He hates that deep down, he’s been steeling himself for this for a very long time.
Years later Jughead gets a cream coloured invitation in the mail, cursive writing on the front. He knows what it is immediately. He doesn’t feel sick anymore when he thinks of them. He doesn’t feel bitter.
He sends back that he’s coming.
Archie wants Jughead to make a speech. He’s not best man - Reggie got that pleasure - but as Archie had said, ‘You’re good with words, Jug.’
And Jughead had caved and agreed, because it was Archie, and it was Betty, and this was their wedding, and honestly he’s just grateful to be a part of their lives again.
He steps up onto the little stage where the microphone waits. He’s not nervous, but he is apprehensive. He’s the bride’s first love. He’s the groom’s best friend. He belongs and yet he doesn’t. He clears his throat. Catches Veronica’s eye in the crowd. Watches as she gives his a smile and a conspiratorial wink.
‘I’m going to tell you all a story,’ he begins. ‘It’s a story about two of my favourite people in the world. Some would say that it was written in the stars, and who am I to disagree?’
‘Once upon a time the girl next door climbed over a fence in an act of rebellion. Instead of finding trouble, she found the love of her life, the boy next door who had red hair…’
