I do really really appreciate the movies and they quickly skyrocketed at the top of my movie list but Merry got shafted sooo badly by the trilogy. Pippin arguably as well, but Pip at least gets RotK to shine a bit more. Skipping Merrys conspiracy leaves the guy with so little character to work with. Scouring of the Shire being cut also makes sense but at the same time it leaves Pippin and Merry to never really resolve their character growth.

(I'm not gonna bring up Sam and Galadriels gift but I'm always thinking about that box of dirt trust me)
