Any Tara story that centers itself around Garfield is inherently disrespectful to her character

Society when people stop trying to turn every character who was raped into the “perfect” victim.

Tara was mean! She genuinely hated the Titans! She chose to work with Slade and she hurt people. She’s still a victim who deserves sympathy. Her character doesn’t need to be changed into something softer to maintain her victimhood

Dick never reached out for help and willingly attached himself to both of his assaulters for weeks/days after the assaults. I don’t think he would even call himself a victim if asked. His character doesn’t need to tearfully confide in his family members or seek vengeance to maintain his victimhood

To each their own but I hate when I see this kind of thing in different adaptations or fan works. Theres no right way to be a victim but I find it weird when people try to mold characters in a certain way to make them more comfortable. Like that’s just not the same character 😭

I’m still thinking about it.

The Judas Contract wanted you to think that the power of love and friendship would change Tara by the end of the story, and then it famously did NOT. That was the whole point of the arc.

She was never secretly in love with Gar. He couldn’t change her, because she didn’t care about him. Nothing he did had any impact on her thoughts, feelings, or actions.

He was a stupid girl crazy 16 year old who had a crush on her for a couple of months, and then proceeded to trash talk her while befriending her abuser after she died.

Making him the center of all of her stories is disrespectful to her character. He’s just some guy that she pretended to like, and now every retelling of her is focused around him.

I liked that Tara didn’t conform to the whole “love heals all” trope. Not only was it interesting narratively, but it makes sense that she was a really messed up teenager who needed more help than a 16 yo boy lusting after her. To change that is to completely change her entire character. Reducing her story to “Gar’s psycho ex” is infuriating.
