He knelt for a while, bent with weeping, still clasping Boromir's hand. So it was that Legolas and Gimli found him. They came from the western slopes of the hill, silently, creeping through the trees as if they were hunting. Gimli had his axe in hand, and Legolas his long knife: all his arrows were spent. When they came into the glade they halted in amazement; and then they stood a moment with heads bowed in grief, for it seemed to them plain what had happened.

‘Alas!' said Legolas, coming to Aragorn's side. 'We have hunted and slain many Orcs in the woods, but we should have been of more use here. We came when we heard the horn – but too late, it seems. I fear you have taken deadly hurt.'

Okay but can we talk about how Aragorn is so overcome with grief that he kneels by Boromir weeping and holding his hand for so long that Legolas genuinely thought he was mortally wounded himself?

And then after that, even though time was pressing and they had no answers about where any of the Hobbits were beyond the general knowledge that some were taken by orcs, as per Boromir’s info, they took the time to bury him honorably, took the time to mourn him, took the time to grieve.

There is so much that I learned from Tolkien as a child, as a teenager, and as an adult, but how to process grief… and the knowledge that it’s okay (even for strong warriors) to be overcome with grief is one of the most important ones.

I'm about to go to bed (because I'm being scolded and Izuna is starting to harass me, but also bc it's threeeeeeee am, oop) but I have to just take a moment and share this

I gained a follower streaming tonight! technically multiple, but logistically a single account. another system popped in, said hi, and followed.

I know a few of my other ~40 are also systems, or at least curious about them, as they found us through the tags we use for this exact reason.

it feels really validating. these last two months have felt really, really validating. for many of us. we have an amazing domestic partner and amazing friends who are so genuinely supportive, it's made some of the really hard parts of this year significantly less hard than it would have otherwise been.

we're starting to get our shit together - together. as a group, and as a system ourselves. we absolutely still have a lot to work on, but right now, it feels like we have the foundation to stand on and the support to walk on without compromising who we are or what we love to do or anything at all, really for the first time. there are a bunch of question marks for the future, and it isn't so terrifying anymore.

and having this other system (which has a name Izuna loved, since his favorite food is strawberries) pop into chat and follow even though we didn't catch that they had done so until about an hour later, that feels like reinforcement - like proof that we're doing at least a few things right.

(and now I'm off to bed before Izu threatens to make me sleep alone #;;>3<)
