Her murder was first labeled as a drowning when they retrived her from the Ohio River, but her car was discovered several blocks away from the Sherman Minton Bridge, with blood inside. When an autopsy was preformed, it was determined that she received several blows to the head before being tossed into the river, her killer was never found. She was only 34 years old.

it’s always been laughable to me whenever black people engage in respectability politics, especially regarding appearance (clothing and the like). while i am all for dressing appropriately for certain times, places, settings, and circumstances, the notion that doing so would somehow lessen the racism black people experience from white people has always been a lie. i know my history, and not only were racist white people killing black people while said black ppl were in their sunday best, they were even killing black people while they were in army uniform. in the garb that clearly stated “i served this country and put my life on the line for its survival,” black people were still being attacked, beaten down, and even lynched. suffice it to say, racists are going to be racist no matter what we say, do, serve, pray, or wear.

Did you know that the man who wrote “The Three Musketeers” was a black French writer? Strictly speaking, Alexandre Dumas was a quadroon (1/4 Black). His father was a mulatto, the illegitimate son of a French marquis and a slave woman from Santo Domingo, who became, rather amazingly, a general under Napoleon.
Alexandre Dumas was a French writer famous for his dramatic fiction. He was notable for his writing, his politics, and his ethnicity: he was mixed-race and his grandmother was Haitian. His most famous works include: The Three Musketeers, (1844) famous for the quote ''All for one and one for all!''
The Prince of Thieves, Alexandre Dumas relates his own unique version of Robin Hood's origins and upbringing, how Robin was robbed of his heritage, how Robin becomes acquainted with Marian, Little John, Friar Tuck, and the Merrie Men, and the events leading up to Robin Hood's life as an outlaw.
The Count of Monte Cristo (1844–46)Monte Cristo -Georges (1843): The protagonist of this novel is a man of mixed race, a rare allusion to Dumas's own African ancestry.

Kate Brown was a free black woman who began working for the US Senate as a laundress in 1861. Within a year, she was promoted to supervisor of the ladies retiring room. This was a noteworthy position for a young woman of color and Brown became known to Senate employees as a person of intelligence and refinement. On February 8, 1868, she boarded a Washington, DC bound train in Alexandria, Virginia after visiting a sick relative at 3:30 p.m. Upon entering the train a policeman employed by the train, by the name of Meade, commanded Brown to go into the forward car. However, Brown replied, “This will do,” and proceeded as far as to get inside of the door of the rear car, which led the policeman to use abusive language. Meade seized Brown and attempted by force to eject her from the train car. Brown refused to be moved; another person came to the police officers assistance. A scuffle occurred, and Brown was finally thrust violently to the forward car. A stranger came to the aid of Brown and cared for her until she was able to receive medical treatment. Brown was bedridden for several weeks after the altercation, coughing up blood from a lung hemorrhage. Horrified by what had happened, Senators Charles Sumner and Justin Morrill called for an investigation into the event. The Senate issued a report critical of the railroad which reaffirmed Brown’s right to travel without racial restrictions. Although segregation was legal on trains in some parts of the country at this time, the 1863 congressional charter authorizing the Washington & Alexandria Railway barred racial segregation. The clause “That no person shall be excluded from the cars on account of color” was included in the railroad’s charter at the instance of Charles Sumner.
