Vert De Bien Hoa
This is the classic ceramic glaze color of Vietnam. This glaze color was named Vert De Bien Hoa by the French (Bien Hoa is a locality in southern Vietnam where our ceramics are produced). With this enamel color, this ceramic vase is very similar to the material made from bronze cast metal

Vintage Ceramics
In traditional ceramics, enamel is made from natural colored rock which are crushed, soaked, and mixed with ashes of plants, thereby generating the color after firing. Of course, this traditional technique allows just a limited color range for ceramics, maximum of 7 different colors. This traditional enameling process is very time consuming and labor intensive. Nowadays, the resources of colored rock are becoming less and less.
For industrial ceramics, people have created industrial enamel by mixing metal oxides. This method is very convenient.
The difference between traditional enamel and industrial enamel is subtle, which would be difficult for an amateur to recognize.
In the old way, we take the natural rock and heat it up to create color. The product retains the delicate beauty of the colored rock, which chemical enamels cannot reproduce. That is the difference between these two types of enamel.
It can be said that for the traditional enamel, the artisan follows the process of create jade in nature, which is the process of burning at 1300 Celsius degrees.
Let’s take a look at this ancient ceramic tile wall and feel the delicate green color just like jade.
