Spoilers again, yay!
For the sake of the Dessendre family, I agree that while it isn't a happily ever after best ending, that what they NEED is Verso's ending. That there is no best case scenario, sunshine and rainbows, everyone heals and is happy.
But that's not what I'm getting at, I guess.
It's not about what's best for Alicia, what's best for Aline, what's best for Clea and Renoir. It's that a whole world of beings don't get a say so just because Aline or Verso created them. Like I didn't ask to be born, and neither did you, yet we get to make our own decisions (for the most part) on if we get to live or die. It's not up to the whim of some all-powerful being that created us. That'd be like if my parents decided "Bloo, for the betterment of our souls, you need to cease existing. It's for the best!"
I understand the message. and that we have to live with our grief and accept that there is no happy ending when it comes to losing a loved one. But it's more that we're shown that this is a whole world of life and beings, all of its own, regardless of who created it. The importance of life and existing. Then at the last second, "Jk, they don't matter because they aren't real!" Yeet!
Even if it's one last hint at the end of Verso's ending, like Renoir looking out from an upper story window at Alicia standing by Verso's grave as he sighs and puts a sheet over Verso's canvas. SOMETHING that shows he hid it and they don't know about it, but the canvas world gets to live on for its own sake.
The only problem I have with that though is being unclear as to how the canvas exists. Does it need a piece of someone's soul to remain standing? Like a Harry Potter horcrux? Or was Verso's sliver of soul just clinging to it because he as a child had put some much love and compassion into his creation that it latched there over time? If the canvas requires his soul to keep the world alive, then that would be bad since his soul would be tormented for all of time.
As much as I want the bestest, happiest ending where everyone comes out happy, I know it's not the point of the story. I lost my dad a year and a half ago. I get that there is no "everyone lived, the end" situation in real life. But I just think something aside from the Dessendre family was set up, but then just dropped at the end. I don't know how there could BE a third ending that doesn't uproot the message of the story of handling grief, but I also think there should be some better handling of the other half of the story.
I don't know. Rambles, rants, raves.
Hot Take: Clair Obscur E33 Endings Aren't Enough
BIG spoilers for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 here as I need to rant and get things about this game off of my chest. Read below the line at your own risk
With that out of the way, I'll go ahead and say it.
Neither Maelle's nor Verso's ending is good enough.
Before people comment and go off that "I don't get the whole message of the game" and "there isn’t supposed to be a 'happily ever after because real life grief doesn't work that way", I do truly get what the game is going for. Believe me. I understand why Verso's ending is the good ending from the perspective of wanting what's best for Alicia and the rest of the Dessendre family.
But that's just it. It's what's best for the Dessendre family. But what isn't talked about or well realized, I feel, is that this isn't JUST about the Dessendre family. I've played games like Nier: Automata and Nier: Replicant where the ideas of 'what is life' and 'what does it mean to BE alive' are explored. We spend dozens of hours - hell, a whole TWO ACTS - with these beings, these people, this WORLD of living, sentient things, be it humans or nevrons, that have thir own lives, their own feelings, their own memories. We're shown throughout most of the story that they want the chance to live, to EXIST! Yet for the betterment of the Dessendre family, these people who play god and create lives, this whole world and all the living things in it just have to DIE?!
I understand that it's best for Aline and Alicia to leave the canvas, and for painted Verso and what's left of real Verso's soul to be put to rest, but I feel like SURELY there can be SOME middle ground here. That Renoir can SAY the canvas has been destroyed, but put it somewhere until his family has well and truly moved on, to be revealed at a later date that it still exists, just so the whole world that was given sentience and life doesn't have to pay the price for the "gods" who created them.
Also, how are we, at the drop of a hat, to let go of these beings JUST because they're "not real"? Just because they can't exist in the real world, they don't matter?! Yes, Maelle's ending isn’t a good one either because she basically treats the people in it as puppets she controls, not really letting them live their own lives. But for the only endings to be two total extremes, all hinging on members of the Dessndre family, just seems to be going against MOST of the whole plot of the game! Especially the whole first act!
I understand that Alicia and Aline need to be removed from temptation and not try to live in a fake reality of what they want and not what's actually there. But I'm not upset because of the family not having Verso, or just wanting a 'happy ever after where you can have your cake and eat it too'. It's more that why does a whole world of living things with their own lives and sentience have to hinge on what's best for the family that created them?
Rant over. There better be more story eventually, whether it's DLC or an eventual sequel, because there's so much more to explore here. I'm REALLY hoping for a third ending DLC as Sandfall hinted at already having DLC ideas before the game was even done, so we'll see.

My very first ever fic, I never published and it was for me and me only, so I say it doesn't count (plus it's super duper embarrassing as it was RPF).
My first PUBLISHED fic, however, was (at the time) platonic shipping combined with continuation fic combined with hurt/comfort because it dealt with one of the main characters having died.
I just felt these two characters got the short end of the story stick, and had so much going for them than the canon left them with. Plus, as has become apparent with my other fics, I get one idea for one particularly emotional and angst scene, and then base a whole fic around it somehow, so that happened and thus I was propelled to write and publish my first fic ever.
Thank you Hackearney for being my first leaping off point, even if I started out with platonic shipping!
Elaborate in the tags, maybe even link your fic if you're able to! I like seeing what people's driving force to write fic is, because it always seems to be different depending on who you ask.
#writing#my writing#the quarry fanfic#hackearney#travis hackett#laura kearney#travis & laura#id link the fic but the ao3 sharing is STILL messed up months later

So apparently Ted did an interview right after The Illusion where he not only talks about getting accidentally punched in the face filming a scene (perhaps where his lower lip scar came from?), not only talks about playing Joxer and being in Xena, but a distant time ago he thought he'd get into directing and producing music videos! 👀😍
Said he was taking piano and guitar lessons because of wanting to do music videos. He did say at the Niagra Falls con in October 2024 that he was going to direct a music video.
Cue me falling back in love with this man, because before I started writing because of him, I made music videos on RuneScape (they're still on my YouTube channel Bloo_Kitty 😉). I still have a passion for them, hearing songs and imagining music videos to them.
He even said his favorite music videos are those that tell a linear story, which is how I edit mine too!
Now I have to show this man my music videos and get a song from him to make one out of in his honor and/or for his 60th birthday.
God I'd give my left kidney to talk creative shop with this man!

Had to compress it because the actual is too big and awesome for Tumblr apparently, but I went through with my boy band version of the seaQuest guys. Aren't they gorgeous?! 😍
Commission by @lacteaway of course!
They're the Moist Men, or the Moist Boys. Yes it's silly, that's the point. I want to get this signed some day, but only Ted still goes to cons, so don't know if it will be possible. But I think they all deserve to be appreciated in some capacity.

hiiii just wanted to say that I had a GRAND ole time a few days ago going through your ao3 :DDD not to make a story out of it but I was in the werewolf tag looking for angst and stumbled upon your "My Sheriff's A Boyfriend" verse, and decided to read your Christmas story despite not ... having watched anything intensive about The Quarry 😭 ! LOLLL I solely had the mental picture of Ted (horror fan here !!) and was essentially flying blind with very low expectations ... but I adooooored what you wrote !!! so lovely and fluffy AND ANGSTY and oh so Very fun . I very very VERY quickly devoured the other fics you wrote for Werewolf!Travis x33 I always think it's a testament to a writer's prowess when I can get so invested in characters I genuinely know next to nothing about (literally . I barely know what Laura looks like and that's only thanks to fanart I saw in passing years ago)
again, had suuuuuch a fun time reading and your commitment to those silly lovebirds really is adorable, and made me want to haul ass on my own self indulgent werewolf favs !! great great great source of inspo <3 I keep coming back to your fics mentally despite having read them two days ago haha :) not an exceedingly long time span in the slightest, but it was enough for me to toss and turn at night needing to send a comment praising you for your work, since I never went on a kudos binge (did sub though !!!) <3 consider this a giant kudos dump !!! keep on torturing Ted Raimi characters, the writing world needs you !!!
Awwwww shucks, anon!
You're the first person ever to compliment me on my writing on here! Really! That's so unbelievably sweet! And that I inspired YOU to write too?! *Goofy blush* Gawrsh!
Truly, I had never felt so inspired to write literally anything in my 30 years of life until I was on my fourth playthrough of The Quarry, trying to get the platinum trophy, and just ONE scene with Travis flinching away from Max acting like he was going to hit him blew my third eye wide open, which led me down a giant rabbit hole that led to me writing my first ever fanfiction, which has led me to now. I credit it all to Mr. Ted Raimi, and if I ever become an actual, successful author someday, the whole world will know it's all his damn fault XD
I'm truthfully taking a break from Travis and Laura right now, but rest assured, I'm still torturing Ted and his characters. Right now, the flavor of the day is Tim O'Neill from seaQuest. I love my men in uniform, what can I say?
Again, I can't put into words on a Tumblr post just how much seeing your anon message made me giggle and kick my feet and blush, but thank you thank you thank you for all of your kind words. I'll keep rereading them over and over and metaphorically (if not literally) hug them close. As I continue to torture Ted, I'll think of your kind words!

Fishman Tim

Another commission from the lovely @lacteaway, this time for a "creature" design for a SeaQuest fic I'm writing.
I won't go into the details just yet, but what you see above, yeah that's our favorite linguist, Lieutenant JG Timothy O'Neill! There was SOME trial and error, but the way this came out was even better than I had pictured in my head! I love how she even added features that were Tim specific without me asking, like the little gap between his two front teeth and the curl on his fin ray.
If you want to find out just what I'm cooking up, look out for it on the SeaQuest section of AO3!
(Also, sorry if I'm postponing The Fox and the Raven and Dark Reflections, but this took over all of my muse, and it's not letting go)
