Movie of the week: Watch Dogs.
WATCH DOGS introduces Aiden Pearce, a hacker and vigilante navigating a hyper-connected version of Chicago, where a centralized operating system controls the city's infrastructure and data. Haunted by the death of his niece, caused by a failed job, Aiden leverages his hacking skills to manipulate the city's surveillance network, seeking justice against those responsible for his family's suffering. As he delves deeper into a world rife with corruption, espionage and digital warfare, Pearce is forced to confront the moral complexities of his actions and the heavy price of revenge in a society where privacy has all but disappeared. However, the upcoming live-action adaptation will reportedly feature a brand-new storyline set within the series fictional universe. Specific plot details have yet to be disclosed, and nothing has been publicly shared so far. Tom Blyth is set to play James, an original character whose backstory remains unknown, while the first confirmed cast member, Sophie Wilde, will portray Elle.
The film is directed by Mathieu Turi, based on an original screenplay by Christie LeBlanc, with revisions by Victoria Bata. Set within the universe of Ubisoft's blockbuster video game franchise, the movie is produced by New Regency Pictures in collaboration with Ubisoft Film & Television.
Filming took place last year in Sofia, Bulgaria, beginning in July and wrapping up in early September. The project is currently in post-production.
TOM BLYTH reportedly did not take part in the final week of filming due to his commitment to another upcoming project, People We Meet on Vacation, which was already in production.
As of now, the film is set for release in 2026, with the exact date still pending.
The cast also features Markella Kavenagh, Georgia Small, and Law X, currently credited in the role of Alan.
The project has been in various stages of development since the initial announcement in June 2013, and as production information is still limited, character names may be subject to change.
The director, Mathieu Turi, is attending the Cannes Film Festival, and while his presence isn't directly linked to the film, there could still be a chance for new updates.
"...But the one I'm doing right now, I don't want to give too much away, but the character's very morally complex. I had to draw a line in the sand and say that when I finished at 7 p.m., he would not be coming home with me. I don't want him in my room at night." — Tom Blyth on his role in Watch Dogs, for VMAN magazine, August 22, 2025.

The Cry of the Guards has officially been renamed to The Fence!

Tom Blyth is set to star in Claire Denis's The Cry of the Guards, an adaptation of Bernard-Marie Koltès' play Black Battles with Dogs.
He takes on the role of Cal, a mechanical engineer and second-in-command at a French-owned construction site, who begins the story in a paranoid search for his beloved lost dog. Described as impulsive, aggressive, and morally ambiguous, Cal is a volatile and dangerous figure in a narrative that explores race, gender, class, loneliness, fear, and the complexities of cultural identity. The film recently concluded filming and is currently in post-production.
