Coming back with an awesome, hopefully welcome, reminder: We are just two weeks away from May 1st! Still looking forward to all potential contributions. It's been a while, so if you need a refresher on what exactly is happening, make sure to check the pinned post. Look out for the 10 day countdown polls that'll inquire your opinion on what Feylin is all about. What's their favorite pastime together? Horse-riding? Starlight Pool picnics? A secret third thing that you're absolutely right about and everyone else is wrong? Await the polls and cast your vote.
To fun and Feylin 💚

It is very clear to me that sjm just took Tamlin's traits (Tamlin saying Feyre can wander anywhere, Tamlin making her try reading, Tamlin and his music, Tamlin being against slavery etc) and pushed it on Rhys who cannot carry it the way Tamlin did because Rhysand is, despite him trauma, evil at his core (First instinct on seeing Feyre is to grapple her mind, make Tamlin beg then went and told Amarantha anyway and got 'Clare' killed. Then later tortured and drugged Feyre, made her dance for him and forcibly kissed her.) as opposed to Tamlin who is worthy of the traits sjm gave him in the beginning because Tamlin is GOOD and Rhys just isn't.
ACOMAF is nothing but sjm working on this "transference" and people didn't have the critical thinking to see the obvious because the narrative is that biased. And the worst part it Rhysand only knows what Feyre is thinking and needing because he's forever voilating her head. That's literally so fucked up. Not to mention Tamlin has PTSD too in ACOMAF which Feyre never helped him with being his fiancee but he is somehow supposed to know and do everything right when the girl wont communicate?!
Im gonna reread ACOTAR at some point just to solidify how glorious Tamlin, Lucien and Feyre are and pretend it's a stand alone forever. I will not bother about the rest of the books at all.

let’s do a thought experiment—cuz there is some strong cognitive dissonance here.
when white settlers “brought” africans over to the “new world” do y’all really think they took the time out to teach them how to farm and build and rear their ugly ass children???? or does it make more sense that these were skills that africans previously had that the settlers were capitalizing on???
if white settlers were as capable as y’all try to make them seem WHY would they have needed to kidnap tens of millions of people from a far-away continent that took at least 6-7 months of travel with high casualties??? if they could do it themselves???? the answer is because they couldn’t. next.

I’ve cleared 40k in medical debt in the last 6 months by applying for 2 different hospital’s financial assistance programs. If you are uninsured, underinsured, unemployed, or underemployed, you should utilize these as much as possible.

Hmm jumping back into ACOTAR criticism/analysis buttttttttt the sexism and male heir preference also makes no sense given the rarity of children in the first place? Like I KNOW this is basically retconned at this point in canon with Feyre and Rhysand having a baby and Kallias and Viviane also turning up with one within like one year of them each getting mates but STILL we are told repeatedly that babies are rare so if ANY child is hard to obtain why did they arbitrarily decide that female children were inferior

Hi! This isn't necessarily an ACOTAR-related ask, but it is relevant to Feylin, so I hope you don't mind me bringing it up!
I know you were very excited for the movie "Wish", once upon a time. (I personally haven't gotten my hopes up over any Disney fairy tale since Frozen let me down back in 2013, but that's not important right now.) I also remember you said you passed on the film, but couldn't remember why, and Tumblr's search function is less than functional, haha.
Anyway, I thought of you after I stumbled across some concept art of Starboy (who was scrapped in favor of a rather Nintendo-looking marketable plushie star-shaped character), and it seems that he was originally going to be Asha's love interest! The original demo for the song "At All Costs" was even going to be a love song between the two of them (instead of the vaguely romantic song between the lead and the, uh, villain, for some reason).
All this to say that I watched a fantastic animatic using the original song, and I got major Feylin vibes from it! Now, those vibes could be wishful thinking on my part, haha, but the fact that each concept features a human girl who falls in love with a guy who is practically made of magic made me think you would appreciate it! ❤️ (And the fact that, ultimately, both love interests were discarded for various reasons. 🥲)
Regardless, I hope you enjoy the song, and the video, and the vibes!! (I needed someone to geek out over it with me. 😂)
This ask has been sitting in my inbox for wayyyyy too long but I waited because I wanted to see the song as it was used in the movie and then compare to the animatic you linked here and yes I like this sooooooo much better. (And it definitely does have Feylin vibes!)
I did not end up seeing Wish, at first because I was genuinely very busy opening weekend, but then because I started hearing some rumors about AI being involved in the creation of the movie and I didn’t want to support that. In the end, I’m not entirely sure if that’s the case, but the movie was, IMO, in what appeared to be an early drafts stage where much more could and should’ve been fleshed out (and I feel like it’s was purposely done dirty by Disney but that’s neither here nor there…)
But Thank you so much! I really did appreciate it and it was so cute 💙

ramblings sorry lol. such a horrific issue with sjms choices is that real abuse survivors are affected by how she and the fans treat an abuser. rhysand's controlling behaviour is very familiar to me and seeing people defend him and defend that specific behaviour is a horrible feeling. A friend of mine feels the same, we had very different experiences but both of us see similarities between what we went through and what feyre went through, which is such an amazing thing in fiction as a side note, seeing people who are like you or who went through the shit that you did and seeing them continue and live after is so cathartic, which is why im so mad at sjms choice to ignore that opportunity and cultivate an audience that celebrates and justifies abusive behaviour because her books do the same. This is even more of an issue because sjm decided to bring themes of abuse and mental health into her books, and act like the same abusive behaviour is somehow different purely because its tamlin not rhysand. Rhysands always been abusive from day one, why does the series act like its serious about mental health and abuse when sjms writes a love story/ramantasy between an abuser and the victim????
Also a little heartbreaking seeing feyre become somewhat irrelevant in her own story? the books dont feel like theyre about her anymore imo, its about rhysand...
Agreed, 100%. The same people who unironically post crap like this:
Tumblr media
Somehow believe they are the end all authority on what is and isn’t abusive and believe that this series somehow handles those themes of abuse and mental health well. And that’s absurd to me.
They have no issues with how Feyre is treated, just who happens to be treating her one way or another. And that does a disservice to the themes this series is supposed to be tackling, because if the only litmus test for abuse is whether or not you like the love interest doing it then there’s no point in bothering to analyze the books through that framework in the first place.
