Project Selkie Animation Showreel

Over the past year, I got the chance to animate on an upcoming pilot called Project Selkie. I had a ton of fun working with the team and I hope I can do more stuff like this in the future!

Monster Hunter Pocket Edition 2024: Zinogre

And for the final member of the Monster Hunter Pocket roster, we have the Thunder Wolf Wyvern Zinogre! Of course this guy had to be in a hypothetical Monster Hunter fighting game, it literally has a shoryuken.

But yeah, that's the end of my remake of Monster Hunter Pocket. Thank you guys for being patient with this, it took a lot longer due to a bunch of real life stuff plus another project that I'm looking forward to sharing with you in May.

Monster Hunter Pocket Edition 2024: Mizutsune

The bubble fox wyvern, Mizutsune, joins the roster of Monster Hunter Pocket! The fourth generation of Monster Hunter introduced so many cool monsters and I had to include a member of the Fated Four (plus I needed a water monster).

Monster Hunter Pocket Edition 2024: Barioth

Fun fact I learned about Barioth while making this is that it's got a set of extra claws beneath its paws for added traction along icy terrain, and it keeps its eyes partially closed during the day to filter out light (be warned, I will be nerding out over more monster design decisions when I discover them)!

It's been a bit, here's what's up

So things have been kind of hectic irl so I haven't had a lot of time for posting and art have been low. With that said I'm currently working on the concept art for the 9th monster in Monster Hunter Pocket, meaning I can return to pixel art soon.

But, since it has been awhile and speaking of concept art, I thought I could share some of the work that goes into making the Monster Hunter Pocket sprites (eventhough I was meant to share these sketch pages initially and forgot but don't worry about that...). Starting off, here's the three current monsters: Rathalos, Lagiacrus and Pukei-Pukei!

Next up we have the remaining returning monsters: Rajang, Barioth and Nergigante! (Nergigante took up so much space they needed two pages)

And finally we have two of the four new monsters being added to the roster: Arkveld and Mizutsune!

Drawing these monster has been a ton of fun, and I could go on and on about the different design aspects of each monster (like have you noticed the little "cleets" on Barioth's paws?) but I would be here forever.

I'm going to end this one here cause I've got another post to make with an announcement, so I'll see you in again in a second!

Monster Hunter Pocket Edition 2024: Lagiacus

Second monster for the roster is MY BOY, Lagiacrus. Will we go another game without this amazing monster? The answer is... probably...

Stuff getting a little crazy over here, so while I did want to pick up the pace on uploads there's some other stuff I need to prioritise. With that said, I'm nearly finished with a new design for one of my characters, so you can expect an update for them soonish and, of course, the next monster! See you guys then!

Monster Hunter Pocket Edition 2024: Rathalos

Back in 2020 I made some pixel art for a hypothetical Monster Hunter fighting game that would has been put on the Neo Geo Pocket Colour and I've wanted to do a remake of those pieces for some time now. Starting off, we have the king of the Skies, Rathalos!

Now, I know it's often said in art circles that you shouldn't put down your own work, and I still somewhat happy with the original... but I don't know about you guys, but the new version is such an improvement. And I'm stoked with how it came out. I'll be doing a bit extra with these ones too as each "in game" sprite will be accompanied by a "character select" sprite and 18 x 18 pixel portrait. On top of that, the original 6 monsters will be joined by 4 new ones.

I hope you guys like it and I'll see you next time with the next monster... or something else... not gonna lie, since I have the animation done now I'm not too sure what to do but we'll see!
