presidential island-hopping // with the anniversary of JFK's assassination crowding the output of most news outlets, what more perfect route for a weekend wander?
Robert F Kennedy Bridge > Randalls/Wards Island > White Castle (not the White House, but close) > Poor Richard (Nixon)'s Playground > Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir > Roosevelt Island (via tram)

art around astoria // from noguchi to socrates and all the streets betwixt, there's no shortage of incredible contemporary art in Astoria - much of it laced with sharp social commentary.

SI-lent boroughs // stepping off the historic ferry, and with the last borough finally under my belt, I was struck by just how sleepy staten island is. A quiet afternoon, spent exploring the harbourside, gardens, and the occasional gallery with a cup of pretty and free hot chocolate (no catches!) in hand. Ahhh.

crimson corona // one brisk sunday provided the perfect opportunity to head deeper into Queens for the grand reopening of the Queens Museum, seated in a building which hosted a World Fair and even the UN (from 1946-1950). A grand mix of cultures, art, history and architecture.

burger battle // from my very first night in NY, the search was on for a truly great burger. The search went far and wide, from the hyper-popular Shake Shack to a recreated ramen burger from Smorgasburg. In the end, I had to give Petey's Burger's Cajun Fire the nod as a local favourite, perfectly matched with crisp, freshly-cut fries.

jetting to NJ // speeding to the monstrous MetLife stadium after a brief escapade in upstate New York, and jumping through every hoop imaginable to get past the ticket gates, I managed to catch the back half of a stellar match-up of the Jets and the Saints (which, thankfully, the Jets pulled off 26-20). Heading home in the fading sun, I couldn't help but have uncomfortable thoughts as NJ Police (with their unfortunate uniforms) herded the masses onto awaiting trains.
