Well, here's my personal "what if" theory/headcanon for Buggy's origins:

What if the Roger Pirates found him as a baby on Lodestar Island? Because they did make it to Lodestar 39 years ago. And the God Valley incident happened just a year later, where they acquired Shanks. Like, what if they had found Buggy first?

Sure, there wasn't anything on the island seeing as Roger and his crew were the first people to set foot there in 800 years, but I think it'd fit in well with One Piece's style for a random baby to just magically appear there out of nowhere with no explanation.

But who knows? I'd honestly be perfectly fine if there's never any sort of backstory for Buggy. Just food for thought

Oh, I can't stop thinking about this fanfic I finished reading yesterday. It's called Crab, or the Story of the First Kiss by Shadow_Angel_Aqila on AO3. If you haven't read it, I totally recommend.

Anyway, I just keep thinking of the last chapter and Buggy's lie about kissing two hundred girls. And of course, the fact that him and Shanks did end up kissing each other. I can't help imagining, because I feel like it wouldn't be totally out of character for younger Shanks, that Shanks actually starts keeping count of how many kisses he shares with Buggy.

Like, just imagine a small continuation. And it's Shanks continuously stealing kisses from Buggy, and Buggy softening more with each one. Then one night, they're hanging out (maybe secretly drinking, maybe not) and Buggy gets the nerve to kiss Shanks first. And all the kisses that they've been having, they're all like the second kiss they had- just a soft press of lips. But the kiss that Buggy initiates is like their first one, which was basically a full on make out session.

When Buggy eventually pulls away, he sees Shanks with a dopey expression on his face. And then out of nowhere, Shanks says, "201."

"What??"

"201 kisses."

"You- you've been keeping count?!"

"For each girl you kissed. I've kissed you more than any girl has now."

Shanks has a very smug grin while saying all this, and Buggy wants to hit him over the head. Definitely tells Shanks that he's an idiot.

Anyway, just a thought ‼️

I can't describe it, but when I look at Shanks, I just can't picture him with a woman.

I have this scene in my head of when everything is over, with Laughtale and stuff. Everyone is recuperating, healing from wounds, rejoicing in freedom with each other. Then there's Shanks and Buggy.

I keep picturing them away from everyone else, just alone together in a spot near the ocean. They're standing by each other and talk here n there, but sooner or later they let a silence wash over them. And that's when Buggy turns to Shanks with a teary eyed look to ask-

"Would you sail with me again?"

I think it'd be really neat if Buggy was the one to ask, to parallel their separation in Loguetown. Except that instead of Shanks saying no and walking away, he obviously says yes.

An alternate scene that plays in my mind is Shanks being the one to speak first, saying something like-

"I think it's time for a new dream, wouldn't you say so?"

Buggy raises an eyebrow. "Well, it is a new era, isn't it? What's your new dream?"

"Let's travel the world together, and have new adventures."

And Buggy says yes

A third scene that goes on is instead of them being together off the side, they're actually at a huge celebration with everyone. Not sure where because where would it take place, Idk. But it's a party with everyone despite any logic. And I keep picturing Rayleigh and Gaban there. And just imagine those two ribbing on Shanks and Buggy during the party, asking when their wedding is because they've been attached to each other since they were just two brats on the Oro Jackson. Just these two old men relentlessly teasing the former cabin boys
