On Sleepovers
It seems so much focus is put on
Who one sleeps with
And whether overnights are spent together in bed - sleeping, maybe or maybe not.
But. I think of sleepovers with you as
"I don't really want to go to bed yet and coffee and an egg sandwich will be great in the morning."
And inbetween we remain
Without each other

When I Read.
When I read
And want to weigh in on your work
Am I supposed to ask
What is it that you are trying to do?
Or am I to measure it next to some abstract rubric in order to give it a grade?
I also think it could be both
Or one or the other
One is intimate
And I have to imagine your body writing
The other a work assembled
Mapping - you take me somewhere
Like "the opening"
Abstract space. Revolutionary Space. Representations. One-to-one.
Practice.

West Side
Not thought of
As an experience of the urban
Is a dewy morning
In the spring's season of emergence
When then the cool greens of the herbaceous
Push up between all the hardened structures
That give a city its form
The quiet of the morning
Where you can hear a man's footsteps a block away
And recognize difference
And feel an intimacy with it all,
Comforting and secure.

Attune.
I had a moment
This past weekend
Where I asked:
"I feel that attachment,
Or the feeling of it,
Has disappeared.
Like everyone is managing
Their own territory and
Keeping it bounded."
And this morning
I was reading Ordinary Katie's
"The New Ordinary"
And recalled past work that spoke of
"Attunement,"
Where I imagined
Like an old car radio
You needed to ever so slightly touch the knob
-With pressure one way or another-
To find "the frequency."
Tuning.
And so we measure "The Ordinary" as an
Affective speed,
-Measured in hurts (hertz)-
That a field of bodies are captured in.
But.
The metaphor of tuning in an AM radio
Is barely imaginable now.
There is only the digital.
Which of course means
Without the touch -
Digit free.
Unattached, separated and w/o animal.
Only concept.
Only object.

Mass. Density.
At times I feel as if out to sea.
I suspect others
In the mass
Have density
Solididy
Because of the many like them.
It holds them to the ground.
I have one. Maybe two, two and a half.
Low density.
And everything floats.

On "Alone"
Alone as:
A moment or temporality.
In space.
Without an "us."
No companion.
Alone as a mark (The Scarlet Letter).
Alone as an identity.
You never want to be alone
And I give your relief from this
As I sit in my kitchen
With no one near.
You identify as having someone.
I've no one to hear me.

In the everyday
People around me are always hearing
"what people say"
Searching for meaning.
But for some time
I have come more to feel
"What words do."
When people speak
Their words most often are not
Articulations, communications,
Or representations of their inside world
Made into the outside world
As utterance.
Their words more often
"Do something"
Like police, perform, mark, identify, cut.
I say this in recognition
That speach actions come from the body
Formed through muscle movement
And conscious intention
The same as we may use a pen
Or paint brush
And as I've been trying to say for a long time
But without a ground to stand on
So are the use of tools,
Like shovels and rakes,
Language.
They are remembered movements of the body that are in dialogue with the earth and world trying to make from it what they need.

Dreams are movements of the body; concrete things. Capri's "Dreams" are not illusions, fantasies, or hallucinations - they are not antanyms of the real but the real in themselves.
In Capri's series "Dream Spaces" she points to a shared space of action and intent. Dream spaces are poietic, not poetic - something productive and formative: "Poietic" from the Greek meaning "activity in which a person brings something into being that did not exist before.
"Dream Spaces" aim to the Greek "praxis" - "Action to make ideas into the real."
But so we find that in their openness, as shared and inhabited spaces with "a world," the vulnerability, as the spaces are openings outward to design and production - and most know nothing of such things, only extraction, colonization, and exploitation.

At night
I like something sweet
And instead of buying those little packages of tiny chocolate donuts at the corner
I can just spread some peanut butter on bread
Add some chocolate chips.

New Project
Winter, 2018-19.
I am going to pick up on the Tumblr space and use it to capture quick undeveloped moments as a collecting point to further articulate works.
I say "undeveloped" to point towards a certain risk I will be taking to make ideas public before I've fully processed them. So, generally, the ideas will be moving from "I don't know shit" towards an object with more "fullness" as I've worked on it more.

"Peony Season." . . . Last season I had a big flow of Peonies available because the project we were on had a number of them on site. This year they are tougher to come by. I've a collection I've started nearing 10 different cultivars with the only purpose being to share cut flowers with loved ones. It is a young collection and hasn't matured to the point yet that I can harvest any blossoms. . . . Uncharacteristic of me, this above image was "staged," so-to-speak, or curated. Every picture I take is of everyday life, representations of moments in Buffalo, NY; everything is a capturing. This image I made. I had come back to the office after a meeting. Often, "in business dealings," there is a point of view in the world where one may try to get more for less. Sure. This sounds regular. But sometimes boundaries are crossed and people try and cut extra value out of you in less than straightforward ways. And. You have to stand there and protect yourself, which, although its done with a smile and a thank you, is still a defense in battle. And so I had to go back to the office and photograph these peonies in as many ways as possible to recover. And so. In its process, this image is a representation of regular everyday life, only I don't think many have the space to go home and photograph Peonies. . . . #softness #radicalsoftness #affect #peony #peonia #peonies #buffalogardens #bflo #bflove #buffhort #buffalove #buffalony #buffaloart #buffalonewyork #buffalohorticulture #queerlove #flowers #flowering #flowergram #flowerlove #flowerlovers #cutting #cutting_flower #landscapelife #landscapedesigner #autoethnography #photowriter #photowriting #elmwoodvillage #westsidebuffalo (at Buffalo, New York)
