obsessed with the Helena and Irving parallel and what it says about the aspects of our identity we think are fundamental (but aren't)...

Like Outie Irving assumes his Innie is just as radically anti-Lumon as he is. He assumes his hatred of Lumon is something ingrained in his personality! That's why he stays up at night drinking coffee and making paintings, because he hopes that when his innie dreams about the testing floor, he'll say "okay bet" and start exploring. That's what Outie Irving would do, after all. But he miscalculated! His hatred of Lumon isn't inherent--- his desire for meaning and art and spirituality is inherent. That's what his hatred for Lumon is built on. But in a world where there's no meaning outside of Lumon propaganda, of COURSE his innie would become ridiculously devoted to the company.

And Helena!! She is the corporation, that's her whole identity. She presumably assumed that Helly would be just as pro-Lumon as she is. But she miscalculated too! Her devotion to the company isn't inherent, her headstrong and entitled nature is what's inherent! And in a world where she's denied any agency whatsoever, that manifests as rebellion.

It's the same dynamic flipped on its head. They both sent their innies in there with opposite intentions--- one to take down the company, one feed the company's expansion--- only to realize that rebellion and devotion aren't inherent characteristics. Their innies have become the exact opposite of their outie selves, while still being exactly the same!! Because even though your personality is inherent, the values you hold are determined circumstantially. OUGH IT'S SO GOOD.

one of my favorite parts about Percy being Obviously Bi™ is he doesn't universally describe one gender as attractive. Like he doesn't just say all girls are cute and guys are just okay or whatever or vice versa. No, he has specific girls he finds pretty and specific guys he finds pretty, and he voices that opinion.

For example - Clarisse? Thalia? Meh. Even Silena, who is canonically very pretty, Percy is relatively neutral on. But Annabeth? Rachel? Calypso? 100%. And based on differences in descriptions like that we can tell when Percy is attracted to somebody versus isn't. He calls everybody else in Beckendorf's cabin ugly and then waxes poetic about how hot Beckendorf is specifically. He'll describe most guys as just "eh" with plain physical descriptors but every time he sees Luke he feels the need to specify that Luke is extremely hot while being very evil and how much he hates Luke's stupid very very pretty face. love that for you Percy. great work.

my life is just one huge cosmic joke bc in the last 24 hours my knee pain is back with a vengeance despite the injection of numbing agent and steroids i got a few days ago that was supposed to numb it for WEEKS and lasted a few days instead, my period started, i learned that my favorite type of tortilla has something i can’t eat in it, and i just got followed in the car for 20ish minutes by my ex situationship (who’s now a close friend that i’m currently not happy with) and his girlfriend who hates me. i am #thriving fr

being able to come back home is. so insane. it sounds like such a simple thing because it’s just coming back home but it’s really not. especially when you come from a place as small as i do and leave it for as long as i just did. i came home, and things have changed but everything is still the same too. i came home, and im an entirely new person but im also the same me that ive been my entire life here. it’s a merging of the past and the present and its showing me just how much ive changed and grown in the past year and its really really insane and a bit terrifying but also so healing and amazing and im just so grateful to be home.

got into the car with my brothers after watching deadpool and wolverine. turned to them. told them “i need you guys to know that while i call characters gay a whole lot. i never mean it as seriously as i do with charles and erik. like there really is no other possible explanation for what they’ve got going on” and both brothers were very confused and said something along the lines of “THEY WERENT EVEN IN THIS MOVIE????” and i just went “they were in the during-credits behind the scenes bits 😌😌😌” and i admire their self control in not pushing me out of the vehicle.
