let’s talk, shall we?

it’s no secret that tumblr writers have been leaving or deactivating their blogs, especially in the last year or two. and i think the reason why is even less of a secret.

the fact that writers have to practically beg for feedback and interaction on a site where they post their works for FREE is ridiculous. the fact that most of the people who are reading and consuming these works don’t even spare 10 seconds to add a nice tag to their reblog (if they even bother to do that) is borderline enraging. this is tumblr, not instagram or twitter. likes on tumblr do nothing for the writer. i don’t care if you think that it helps them appear in the tags, or if you think that seeing yet another “___ liked your post” is encouraging to them, because it doesn’t and its not.

and speaking of likes, why is the ratio of likes to reblogs so fucking huge? and before you think i’m being dramatic, lets take a look at some of the notes from my own works.

at the time of me writing this, my one-shot, dream lover, has 821 notes. that’s pretty good right? but let’s see how many are empty likes and how many are reblogs.

out of those 52 reblogs, 35 of them are empty. no tag, no comment.

one of my reactions currently has 2,038 notes. you may be thinking that’s a lot, which it is and i’m incredibly thankful for how many notes i’ve gotten on it. but how many are likes and how many are reblogs?

out of those 113 reblogs, 81 of them are empty.

one of my headcanons currently has 1,110 notes.

why is it so hard to reblog things and give feedback?

“oh but it won’t fit my blog theme!” if you’re so fucking concerned about what your precious tumblr blog looks like, then send an ask. they’re just as appreciated.

“i don’t know what to say tho!” we’re not asking you to be shakespeare. if you’re really that no thoughts head empty just put a keyboard smash, if nothing else.

“but i’m shy and embarrassed!” the anonymous option is there for a reason, and most writers have it turned on. being shy when you have the option of keeping your identity a secret is no excuse.

and yes, i’m aware that some writers don’t have the anon option on, which brings me to my final point.

stop. demanding.

if a writer has requests open, be a decent human being and use your manners. going into their inbox and saying “____’s reaction of this.” is no way to request something. saying please, thank you, or even “hey, could you do a reaction of _____?” is a thousand times better than just telling them what you want them to write.

writers spend hours of their time and energy to write things for you to read, and leaving an empty like is meaningless to them.

if your liked a writer’s works, reblog them and maybe add some nice fucking tags while you’re at or send an ask to them about it. because sooner or later, after so many likes and barely any interaction, more and more writers are going to leave.

stop making them desperate for any spare crumb of interaction and start leaving feedback if you love these writers so much.

I'm not really sure I am able to write this request, I am still writing for cg headcanons and such but it is much harder to write a full fic with no given scenario. if you're wanting to see full fics with cg gerard I suggest giving some scenarios or being a little more specific, but I'm glad you are liking my works so far! I have some other people cg headcanon requests being written right now so there will definitely be more of that type of content! writing neutral readers; a guide

(neutral = unspecified gender, race, appearance, etc.)

hi hi here's vee, the one of (hopefully) many neutral fic writers for atsv, showing YOU how to write a neutral reader for your character x reader fic!!!!

this is mainly about romantic x reader fics!!

lil disclaimer: you don't have to write neutral readers if you don't want to! this is just for people who do and might want some advice :) all of these are what works for me — there are plenty of ways to write a neutral reader!

inclusivity! a lot of the times it can be hard to find a fic right for you especially if they tend to be for a certain demographic

before we get started: why are neutral readers great?

forces you to think outside of the box — you can't rely on describing the reader, so you have to describe character interactions more creatively (as you'll see me try to do a lot in this post 😭)

helps with immersion! a lot of the time overly-descriptive reader inserts can make it hard to... actually insert yourself into them

your fics can reach a lot more people if they're neutral (though this is just an added bonus lol)

some colour-coding for your wellbeing: blue = general advice + examples, pink = my personal input

1. avoiding white-coding

this is a big point i'd like to address first because it doesn't get talked about enough! and all of this is in reference to a post i saw like a week ago lmao

i haven't seen this term being used a lot but the general idea is when a piece of writing is catered towards a white reader (usually implied through description)

this is usually done unintentionally but avoiding white coding is an important part of writing totally neutrally!

general things to avoid

describing physical attributes such as hair + skin tone

for example describing hair as silky/smooth implies that it is straight + excludes the majority of other hair types / styles etc

also things like running your fingers through your hair can be impractical w certain hairstyles

i tend to just avoid hair in general ? if you want you can focus on other gestures (hand holding, cupping readers face or sumn)

or just reverse the roles entirely and have reader do the comforting gestures to the canon character

skin tone is definitely more subtle however it can be implied especially through things like blushing

people with darker skin tones DO blush, but it generally tends to be less visible or not at all

instead i tend to describe the feeling rather than the outward changes (face getting warm, getting flustered, heart rate increasing, sweating, stuttering etc)

2. being gender-neutral

okay this admittedly can be difficult to write sometimes

the general rule for a gender neutral reader is to avoid referring to the reader as male or female AND any physical description specific to a certain sex

gendered terms

some people like to use they/them when reader is referred to by other characters

instead of boyfriend/girlfriend you can use partner

i personally don't do these things as you'll see in my next point about re-direction!

there are PLENTY of gender neutral pet names in english

for languages like spanish which have masc and fem versions of words i tend to use nouns (usually non-living or abstract) which have a set gender (such as my heart, my love, etc — one of my favourites is cariño (darling) because it doesn't change based on gender)

though again i rarely write terms of endearment in other languages so i suggest you do your research!

physical terms (sfw only)

also for body inclusivity

again this mainly to try and avoid implying fem!reader but also body types just a tiny little bit

i tend to avoid mentioning body shape but if i do then i use something vague like "shape of your body" rather than "curves" or anything specific

you can just write down the body part without describing it physically (chest, waist thighs, etc)

eyelashes are ... unisex! no way!

you might want to avoid makeup but this is just a *general* suggestion

i tend to NOT describing clothing choices unless it's relevant to the premise of the fic — usually vague references like your school uniform, pajamas, shoes, favourite shirt, etc

you can also cheat this if reader is wearing the other character's clothes 😭 next point re-direction WOOO

3. re-direction

(a personal choice of mine + totally optional)

re-direction is when you change the focus of a sentence in order to get rid of any words descriptions that may take away from the neutrality of the reader (as you see me talking about in the little pink text everywhere or in the little suggestions in blue)

Re-direction can be used for anything! I think there's a book that exists that uses no words with the letter e and a book that uses no pronouns at all (but don't ask me what they are because I have no clue)

It's not particularly easy or straightforward all the time and you might have to change more than one sentence but re-phrasing your writing can be a good challenge! (if you choose to do so)

for me i tend to re-direct to avoid using any sort of third person pronouns (he/she/they etc) or gendered terms and to avoid using insert tags like y/n

example on pronouns & gendered terms

for pronouns i usually change "he/she/they" to "you" or a noun

"She's not welcome here" could become "Your friend isn't welcome here"

Or the sentence may change entirely to convey the same meaning. The woman turned to you, speaking one simple command: "Get out."

I also tend to use more masc / neutral terms in casual settings like "dude" or "bro"

I also avoid the use of "partner" (though this is just nit-picky) ex. "Is this your partner?" might become "Oh, [character] talks about you all the time!" (entirely dependent on context and if you care enough lol — one of the less clear-cut redirections)

while you could obviously use they in this scenario i personally don't out of preference (to me they/them is an nb set of pronouns if the gender isn't ambiguous and blah blah blah) but it doesn't really matter

example on insert tags

"(Y/N), wait!" can become "Hey, wait!"

Or you could use "your name" rather than a placeholder. He called your name, running behind you. "Wait!"

like i mentioned before things like clothes and favourite foods all tend to revolve around the character rather than the reader. in a lot of cases writing about the foods the character likes or wearing the clothes the character owns can actually be more immersive than inserting your personal preferences into a pair of brackets (in my experience at least)

4. general thoughts and opinions

one big thing i wanted to point out is that it's actually good for your writing to "ban" yourself from using certain terms and descriptions. i find that i focus a lot more on describing events, emotions and character interactions rather than being caught up on the reader.

fem!reader and masc!reader are GREAT too! amazing beautiful wonderful keep writing those — but i think gender neutral readers help to avoid a lot of biases that might (albeit unintentionally) come with a specific gender

and being inclusive for all kinds of readers when you're writing a neutral reader is so important!

to conclude

if you exclusively write one type of reader that is absolutely fine :) write what you want and be happy doing it

neutral readers are GREAT but so difficult to write so pls don't worry if u mess up sometimes 👍

i am still figuring out ways to make my writing more inclusive and i wouldn't know without other people's input! so please feel free to drop ur personal gripes or advice

pete n mikey (yes im the person from other pete n mikey one- i luv them to much jdufkekd) with a trans male s/o but he has a pretty feminine figure n stuff- like small lips n hands, hourglass body, butt sticks out n it gives them rlly rlly bad gender dysphoria- they also got around shoulder length hair which they like but still makes them dysphoric sometimes—— as head cannons plz, like how pete n mikey help with the dysphoria or try to help

I can give you headcannons for how they deal with a gender dysphoric reader but I'm sorry I won't write that specific of a reader since I try to keep my stuff as all inclusive as possible.

Gender Dysphoria

I'm not really sure how they would help since gender dysphoria can be complex

I think if you were have a really bad gender dysphoria day they would do some things they read on the internet that could help.

have chest dysphoria? a large towel around the neck can help to cover it. or you could also use one of those pillows that wraps around your torso

if you feel like your entire body isn't right they would cover you in blankets so you can't see yourself.

your torso under scrutiny? one of their oversized hoodies will be placed on you immediately.

they'll probably give you a lot of their clothing if it makes you feel more comfortable

Pete is getting you all the oversized Clandestine Industries clothing

but just a fair warning if you steal clothing from Mikey you end up with Gerard or Frank's shirts but if you steal from Pete you might end up with Mikey's shirts.

"Where did you find that shirt? I've been looking for it for forever! ... wait have you had it this entire time?!"

"No I swear I found it in Pete’s closet!"

"... PETER WENTZ."

I think if you had dysphoria about your hair they would help you put it up into different hair styles or help you cut it off if you wanted (don't trust Pete with the hair clippers though)

just overall they would have to do some research or ask you a lot of questions on what you need during bad dysphoria days.

I think Mikey is the first to realize, he's had a fair share of being pretty silent and being overwhelmed that he can recognize it in someone pretty quickly. Plus he's fairly in tune with reading someone, especially you.

He definitely immediately tries to get you whatever you need, handing you your communication cards almost as soon as you walk into the room he's in

it will take a few minutes for Pete to realize what's happening, only picking it up when Mikey hands you the communication cards.

Pete gets sort of anxious about these things, worried he's going to make it worse somehow. You've reassured him that he doesn't make it worse but he still get anxious about it.

I think Mikey is a lot more level headed with this and will probably do a lot of more practical things (making sure you have your cards and are using them when needed, turning off anything that's too bright or making too much noise, etc)

While Pete is the type to just do whatever Mikey says to do, like getting things or making things. You need blankets? Already being thrown on top of you on the couch. You need one of your comfort foods? He's already making it just how you like it (he practiced even if it's a really simple thing to make) You need him to get you something from the store? Which store cause he's on his way there STAT.

These two are doing everything in their power to make you comfortable.

Personally I'm more prone to meltdowns when I get home after being overstimulated all day/having a bad day + not being able to communicate makes it worse so I feel like they would have some preparations for that

if you cry a lot during meltdowns they have a cols bottle of water just waiting for you when you catch your breath enough to drink

if you don't like touch during meltdowns they're more than okay with giving you your space

if you're not likely to have meltdowns they'd still be prepared just in case you do start crying though.

If you like pressure to help calm you down Pete would go get your weighted blanket (that they bought you) as quickly as possible and they the two would lay on top of your stomach and chest to give more pressure

if you can't handle touch or anything like that while in this state they are A-OK giving you other things to hold onto like blankets and stuffed animals and your security items

All in All they're trying their best to get you through this and doing whatever you need at that moment from running a bath to just putting on your comfort TV show.

since agere is a community that I am not a part of and my stories are primarily for me. I write them because I couldn't find any age regression fics outside of agere and all of them were extremely feminine and girly, and only written with people who use she/her pronouns in mind.

Frank and age regressor! reader Zoo Day

Frank loves to take you places of course, he's a pretty active care giver

so he decided today to take you to the zoo!

when you both walked through the big gates he immediately picked up a map, pointing at some of the animals

"so where are we going first, kiddo?"

You decided to go see the elephants in the Asian pavilion first, there were so big and you were always amazing on how something so big can still exist

As you both made you way up to the elephants you looked at the animal enclosures along the path, there were tigers and other large cats

When you got to the elephants you go to warch a video about the elephants at the zoo, their names and their personalities

After that you moved on to the red pandas and the rhinos, watching the red pandas hop around the trees and the rhinos verrryyyy slowllyyyy eat

Frank pointed out that there was a children's area in the Zoo and asked if you wanted to go, of course you said yes

in the children's zoo there was a cool tree themed slide and your favorite part, a feeding the lorikeets activity!

Frank happily handed over a couple dollars to let you feed the lorikeets, you and him both holding little plastic cups of sugar water

when you got inside the small net building with the lorikeets one landed on your shoulder which frank took a picture of.

When you both got finished feeding the birds frank decided it was time to be heading out, you were starting to get tired and you had seen most of the animals already

on the way out Frank bought you a stuffie of your favorite animal from the gift shop :]

sure I can, but remember if you can safely regress you should do so even if it doesn't feel great, it's a way of coping and it can help sometimes (also personally think the term "impure regression" is stupid so I'm gonna call it upset or triggered regression, not mad at you I just have a lot of problems with that term)

two drabbles under cut :]

Gerard drabble (hurt/comfort):

today had been rough, the day dragged on and pulled you through the motions until you just couldn't handle it anymore. As you stepped in the door of your small shared apartment, Gerard appeared quickly. Was it quickly or was your time perception messed up? you couldn't tell, but none of it matter much anymore. Gerard was there, hugging you and making sure you were actively dying before taking care of anything else you might need.

"Bad day, hun?" Gerard waited for you response, ever patient as you sniffled against them.

All you could manage out was a small "mhm", muffled by their cozy sweater.

"Alright, come're little one" He gently took one of you hands and led you back to your shared bed room and sat you on the bed. "Just sit here and I'll get things set up for a bath, sound good?" His smile was soft and caring, feeling like a soft blanket.

You watched as he dug through the chest in your closet full of all your regression gear. He pulled out your hooded bath towel with your favorite animal on, custom made just for you with your name on it. They also pulled out a few of your bath toys in case you had the energy to play a little, then they set the hair washing bucket to the side. The bucket was made in a certain way so that they could rinse your hair without getting water in your eyes.

He stood up, scooping some of the things into his arms and headed to the bathroom. "I'll be right back, okay? just starting the water." He reassured you as you continued to sit on the bed. With nothing to look at, you quickly got up and padded over to the box and picked up your favorite comfort plush. It was still soft after all these years and you held it close.

Gerard came back into the bedroom, picking up the hooded towel and holding out a hand for you. "Bath is ready, little one" You nodded along and took his hand and he lead you over to the bathroom.

"Everything will be okay, I promise, there will be lore days, and more stuffies, different people, and same schedules. I'll help you every step of the way, okay?"

Frank + Jamia drabble (fluff):

"Jamia thinks your a silly goose." Frank whispered into your ear while you were watching cartoons, by the smile on his face you could tell he was playing around.

"Well ten tell mama I don' wan' her pancakes anymore!" You shouted then secretly giggled back to frank who smiled at you. Jamia, just in the other room, making breakfast for the two of you, gasped exaggerately.

"Frank what did you do, they always want pancakes!" She turned off the stove and put her hands on her hips, staring at Frank who put his hands up in mock surrender.

"All I did was tell them the truth!" He smiled and shrugged as Jamia obviously struggled to not break character.

"Then it seems neither of you are getting pancakes!" She turned away and started to put the already made pancakes away until both you and Frank jumped up from the couch in protest.

"No No wait we apologize!"
