26 Rue du Dr Potain, Atelier 23 au 2ème étage ,75019 Paris Paris, France
Vernissage/Opening: Samedi 24 Février, 16h-19h Saturday 24 Feburary, 4pm - 7pm
avec/with Linda Branco Simon Fuh Pierre Pagy Martin Poulain Gauthier Royal Rieko Tsuji
Temet Nosce means Know Thyself (know yourself) in informal Latin, it is derived from the Sci-fi movie The Matrix (1999).
Oracle: So, what do you think? You think you're the one? Neo: I don't know. Oracle: You know what that means? It's Latin. Means `Know thyself'. I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Being the one is just like being in love. No one can tell you your in love, you just know it. Through and through. Balls to bones. Well, I better have a look at you. Open your mouth, say Ahhh. Neo: Ahhh. Oracle: Okay. Now I'm supposed to say, `Umm, that's interesting, but...' then you say... Neo: But what? Oracle: But you already know what I'm going to tell you. Neo: I'm not the one. Oracle: Sorry kiddo. You got the gift, but it looks like you're waiting for something. Neo: What?"

Cindy Hinant "1 Night in Paris" November 18, 2015/ 7PM - 9:15PM (one night show)
Can't Complain Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new video-based works by Cindy Hinant titled "1 Night in Paris". 1 Night in Paris, 2014, features audio from Paris Hilton’s infamous sex tape, and reflects on “the aesthetics of violation” - the growing phenomenon of images that have seemingly been released without the consent of their subject, accelerating the celebrities' marketing-machines, as well as the image's rate of circulation. Another color field video, I Love Money and Now I’m Loving Life, 2015 considers representations of gender and class in the television series The Real Housewives of Orange County, the work fades in and out of monochrome color fields, and is a meditation on voids, featuring the empty catch phrases of reality television stars as they define their public personas.
Cindy Hinant is a New York based feminist artist who utilizes video, audio, internet and digital technologies, as well as performance and traditional art mediums as part of her conceptual based practice. She received a BFA from the Herron School of Art and Design and holds a MFA from the School of Visual Arts. She has been the recipient of the Robert D. Beckman Jr. Emerging Artist Fellowship and the Edward Albee Visual Artist-in-Residence Fellowship. She has had solo shows at the Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art, Joe Sheftel Gallery, and Interstitial. She has also participated in group exhibitions and screenings at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, the Museo de Arte El Salvador, Kunsthalle St. Gallen, the North Miami Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Lehnbachhaus Munich. Her work will be featured in the forthcoming book "New York, New Wave: The Legacy of Feminist Artists in Emerging Practices" by Kathy Battista

Patrick Cruz Taxonomical measurements through primordial auto-tune November 13, 2015 from 5pm - 9pm, performance at 5pm (one day show)
Can't Complain Gallery is pleased to present "Taxonomical measurements through primordial auto-tune", an exhibition and a performance by Patrick Cruz.
Auto-Tune is an audio processor created by Antares Audio Technologies which uses a proprietary device to measure and alter pitch in vocal and instrumental music recording and performances.[4] It was originally intended to disguise or correct off-key inaccuracies, allowing vocal tracks to be perfectly tuned despite originally being slightly off-key. One of the first auto-tune devices came from a phase vocoder algorithm originally developed to locate underground oil deposits. -(Wikipedia)
Cruz will unearth and assemble readily available materials from Can't Complain Gallery's site. The finished assemblage will act as a musical score for his improvised performance.
Patrick Cruz is a Filipino-Canadian artist born in Manila, Philippines. Cruz is currently living and working in Guelph, Ontario where he is pursuing his Masters in Fine Arts at the University of Guelph. He studied Painting at the University of the Philippines and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University of Art + Design in 2010.
