Of course, Dr. Wily isn’t willing to get himself caught so easily, and has his Robot Masters right out there waiting for them.

EPISODE 2. After surviving an attack from Mother Brain, our heroes choose to stick around to protect the Palace of Power from any further attacks. But first, Kevin needs something to defend himself with. Lana knows a place, but to get it, Kevin has to endure six trials. It sounds standard enough, but can a normal kid really get through a series of obstacle courses meant for video game characters?

Captain N: The Game Master had a high animation budget
Contrary to how most might look at it today, late 80s cartoons like Captain N: The Game Master had a high animation budget for a Saturday morning cartoon when there was more money to throw around.
Season 1 was animated by South Korean studio, Dongyang Animation, while Season 2 was animated by Japanese studio Spectrum Animation, both of which worked on Batman: The Animated Series. The 13 episode Legend of Zelda cartoon (animated by Sei Young Animation) also had a high animation budget for a weekly cartoon.
The episode “Mega Trouble for Megaland” had more attention than most episodes (which were fairly consistent for its budget) with this clip starting at 13:37.
Watch as Captain N stares down at the pit below and the camera pans up to the giant robot behind him. This high quality animation was pointed out byRobert V. Aldrich in his Captain N panel at MAGFest 12 (2014) titled “10 Reasons Why Captain N is A Masterpiece”.

Captain N: The Game Master (Everything You Didn’t Know) is a neat little collection of both response to the show and its production history. Jackie Jennings sums up everything you need to know about Captain N in this concise 17-minute video.
She touches on many of the most notable talking points, ie; the poor adaptation of various characters (Simon Belmont in particular) and the occasionally-questionable animation. Much of it is stuff that someone who has already dedicated their young adult life to the show will already know, but if you’re just learning about the series, this is a good place to start, if not with the show itself.
Let me repeat the question she asks at the end of this video: who do you think was the best character, and who was the most poorly-done?
