designing Onyx a sword

I wanted to incorporate the Doom power stuff (I kind of imagined what the Doom wings looked like (the texture), but as a sword)… but swirls is fine. Gonna add color and shading to it to make it look cooler.

By that, I mean I’m gonna redraw it. On a larger scale. I like to draw things tiny for whatever reason. 🤷‍♀️

Behold! Omphalotus Onyx in her Jack O’Lantern Mushroom-themed dress! (Might add sleeves or something later. I dunno yet… but probably not.)

Y’all wanna know why I call her Omphalotus?

Omphalotus is the genus name for the Jack O'Lantern Mushrooms. In my book (The Little Book of Mushrooms: An Illustrated Guide to the Extraordinary Power of Mushrooms), it says:

"Look-alikes can include the highly sought-after Chicken of the Woods, Chanterelle species. . . Honey Mushroom varieties. . . and psychedelic species" (p. 132).

So... I chose to give her the code name Omphalotus because of the look-alike thing.

Omphalotus Onyx is a shapeshifter.

So glad this song turned up on my YouTube fyp. I knew in the back of my head that this was the song used in the Shadow the Hedgehog dub intro, and I love it. 10/10, would recommend (and I am!).

remind me of a certain version of Onyx that I created... the first version of her, to be precise (I'll release a drawing of her at some point, I swear 😭 I'm working on it, and I wanna draw the different Onyxs in mushroom dresses).

She can shapeshift. And I can't unsee her shifting while singing those lines.

Specifically, it goes:

I am, I am everyone, everywhere (all as herself)

Anyhow (as herself), anyway (as Shadow), anywhere (as Sonic), anyday (as herself again)

And then it repeats.

This turned into a ramble, but I just love Onyx, and this is gonna be my favorite song for a little while.

Uhh... adding to this (or I might just be repeating myself):

Puffball is just the template. She was stuck in a time loop but was put in different scenarios, some of these scenarios happening in completely different universes from each other. And Puffball only escaped because I stopped using her and I created other Onyxs.

What if Puffball was stuck in some sort of time loop with her memories constantly being erased?

So… she would have vague feelings of familiarity whenever she sees/hears/feels/tastes/smells something that is related to whatever happened in those past time loops.

drew Destroying Angels!

Literally just used a mechanical pencil for this. Really proud of how it turned out! Even if it isn’t exactly like the reference, it still looks pretty close to it!

(Also, I hope the reference image I used was actually a Destroying Angel. I just looked up "destroying angel" into a search engine, and I know how it sometimes just throws in completely unrelated things to your search into your search results. It's kinda frustrating.)

Sketch:

FAR LEFT: I did a (kind of) convincing shallow bowl shape from the side. It's better than whatever the fuck I've done before. It looks a little deeper than the reference image, but, otherwise, it looks pretty good. Yay, me!

MIDDLE LEFT: Drew this one first. Proportions are a bit off, but that's fine. Shading wasn't my best, but I was literally working with a mechanical pencil while drawing this. Can't expect to get the best shading ever with that.

MIDDLE RIGHT: Probably my best-done mushroom in this image. Shading looks amazing (I've found that, sometimes, less is more), and proportions are pretty accurate. It's just a little guy (ignore that this is a deadly mushroom).

FAR RIGHT: I like how I did the little squiggles on the stem. The stem in the picture had some texture to it, so I tried to leave an impression on what the texture was like.

Ok. I dunno which Sonic media we’re talking about, but this is just my reasoning (the first things that popped into my head):

Sonic: (worst (in my opinion))

He would have a messy room and probably wouldn’t be there that often. I don’t trust that he wouldn’t pick up after himself.

And, from what I’ve seen, he has a lot of energy. I’d much prefer quiet and peace.

Shadow: (tolerable)

Would probably mostly leave me alone, and I’ve seen him headcanoned as a neat freak. Motivation to keep my spaces clean, too.

Tails: (would just be babysitting)

He might try to stay up late with tinkering or inventing or whatever, but he’s like… 8. I just gotta set a bedtime and make sure he doesn’t fall asleep next to any sharp objects.

Knuckles:

Rouge: (would be (at the very least) on good terms with her)

Jewel thief (at least some kind of thief), but I would help that girl hide herself and whatever she stole from the cops. I got you, bestie.

Almost chose him to be the worst (because of that one Sonic Boom episode and because he’s… Eggman), but decided that I would just get him kicked out. Would probably be pretty easy, too.

Don’t really know his character much, but he might be ok. Living in an apocalyptic wasteland and then living in a house/apartment would be a big adjustment…

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS!! Secret royalty AUs and AUs with extra supernatural stuff (mermaids, sirens, werewolves, vampires, etc.) are some of my favorites!!

The transitions were smooth, and the writing was descriptive. The fic is awesome, amazing, beautiful--and I ran out of words. Damn it.

(I wrote down like... *checks Google Docs* 561 words of a random scene I imagined earlier, and me doing anything takes a lot of brain juice, lol)

Anyway, loved this! 100/10, would recommend.

Apparently, all it takes to write a book now is to just put in a prompt on some stupid website.

I hate it when I’m on a roll with writing, but then I encounter a part where I get stuck because I can’t word it quite right.

I’m trying to stop that, though. I’m working on accepting that some of my writing won’t always sound like a professional’s.

I hate it when I’m trying to go to sleep and I turn off the light but AS SOON AS I DO THAT, I get a good idea for a comic or for a fic.

And this has happened 2 or 3 times to me in the past month or so!!

Every time I turn off the light after writing down one of the random ideas I had, I get a new idea.

It’s a blessing and a curse.

I love it, but it’s inconvenient.

Don’t stop giving me ideas, brain. I need them. I love them. I’ve been leaving open my notes app at night just for them.
