Assignment 3 Progression 2
After all the research and deciding the colors and fabrics, I started to sketch out my designs. I started off with something very similar to a traditional kimono with a twist to it. It had a slit on the shoulder part which exposes skin underneath, but I soon realized that it was more cute than elegant. Since I was going for a more elegant and simple brand, I decided not to use that design. Although the pants from the initial design were very nice in my opinion, I decided to keep them. Then my second sketch was a form-fitted dress in the shape of bamboo with a long light and flowy scarf that goes around the back of the neck and both ends draped down the front of the body. At first, I thought it was a cute and elegant dress, but it was too simple and plain. The inspiration for that came from the bamboo water decoration that sits on top of a rock in a Japanese home garden.
Tumblr media
My third design was inspired by a temple maiden yukata, where the top was two pieces of fabric crossed over each other and tied together with two strings. I implemented that into my design and made the back part longer. Then in my last design, I kept the pants from my previous design and I designed a top that was a sleeveless bodysuit with a rope inspired by Japanese temples wrapped around the body.

Assignment 3 progression 1
Tumblr media
This assignment is a group project. In my group are Isabelle, Koto, and I, and we were tasked to create a clothing line with the winter or summer season as our collection with six looks in total. We decided to do a Japanese theme for a winter/autumn collection and then split the work into two designs per person. At first, I wanted to do Japanese architecture, but the idea developed into the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese home. A photo of a traditional Japanese home is often shown with large open doors from the inside and outside, which allows great airflow within the house. There were also many photos with gardens in the center or in front of the homes, so we decided to use those elements within our designs. Another element that I discovered was the neutral and earthy colors throughout multiple photos.
With those elements in mind, flowy/airy, rectangular door shapes, and neutral colors, I decided on which fabrics we could use and what color palette we should go for. After some research, I found that the silk organza and silk are the more flowy type of fabric. The reason I chose silk organza is because it is still able to hold some shape and it can flow with the wind, whereas for silk, I found that traditional Japanese kimonos were made with silk. Then I chose two more fabrics that could work well with the first two fabrics, which were spandex and cotton twill. These fabrics still stick to the lightweight and airy element so I thought it was perfect.
As for the colors I chose, as mentioned before, I went with more earthy tones, beige, light brown, and a dark grey-blue with burnt orange-red as a pop of color. At first, I had a larger color palette, but we were advised to choose four out of the ten that we initially had. Even though I had started on my designs prior to downsizing the colors, I still made it work to my advantage since now I can embrace the simplicity, intricate details, and designs of my garments without the colors over-shining them.
I found the research on different fabrics very fascinating since I didn’t know that there were so many types that may look or feel the same, they are made differently and for different purposes. I went down a deep dive into understanding each fabric that was best suitable for my designs, I was looking for the quality and function of each fabric. Figuring out the color palette was also a blast and was quite difficult too since there are so many beautiful colors that are suitable for my vision of the brand I was creating and that's how I ended up with so many colors initially.

Assignment 2 Progression
For assignment 2, we got tasked to do research about a certain year and how the events of that decade influenced or affected fashion. We must also find who was the fashion icon of the decade and give facts and photos on the infographic. I got the 1910’s. I was not sure exactly how what to do so I started to search for as many facts as possible to fill up a long page. It was quite hard to find much since I am looking for information from over one hundred years ago and obviously, there was no internet back in the 1910’s so I spent quite a while gathering all the information I needed to answer the questions in the brief.
The theme and layout of the infographic I did was more or less like a scrapbook. The colors I went with were mostly brown and beige or like paper after being dipped in coffee. I felt that this theme I went for was very fitting to the decade I got because, during that time, there were not many bright colors and it was around the dark times of world war 1.
Overall I did not quite enjoy doing this assignment due to the amount of research we must do and on top of that the decade I got was also hard to research about. Although I did not enjoy the assignment, I understand that we must do research about the history of fashion in order to know where something came from and how it had developed throughout the years.

How Handbags went from Practical, to Fashionable
Tumblr media
Handbags have a rich history that dates back to the earliest civilizations. In the past, handbags were mainly used for practical purposes such as carrying food, tools, and other necessities. However, as fashion and style evolved, so did the function of handbags. In the 19th century, women began to use handbags as a fashion accessory, with designs becoming more elaborate and decorative. It was during this time that the concept of the "it" bag was born, with women wanting to be seen carrying the latest and most fashionable handbag.
In the early 20th century, handbags became an essential part of women's fashion, with designers such as Chanel and Hermes creating iconic bags that are still sought after today. These bags were not just practical, but also stylish, with intricate designs and luxurious materials. Women began to see handbags as a reflection of their personality and status, with some even becoming collector's items.
As the fashion industry continued to evolve, handbags became even more important. In the 1950s and 60s, the rise of designer brands such as Gucci and Prada led to a new era of handbag fashion. These bags were not just functional but also represented luxury and sophistication. The 1980s saw the rise of the shoulder bag, with designers such as Louis Vuitton and Fendi creating bags that could be worn across the body.
Today, handbags have become a staple in every woman's wardrobe, with a wide range of styles and designs to choose from. From classic leather totes to trendy crossbody bags, handbags have become an essential part of fashion and style. The rise of social media and influencers has also contributed to the popularity of handbags, with many women wanting to emulate the latest trends and styles.

Bamboo Silk
Tumblr media
Bamboo silk is a relatively new and eco-friendly alternative to traditional silk that has been gaining popularity in recent years. It is made by processing the cellulose fibers found in bamboo plants into a soft and luxurious fabric that has a similar sheen and drape to traditional silk. One of the biggest advantages of bamboo silk is its sustainability. Bamboo is a fast-growing plant that requires no pesticides or fertilizers to thrive, and it can be harvested annually without causing damage to the environment. This makes bamboo silk a more environmentally friendly choice than traditional silk, which is often produced using harmful chemicals and can have a negative impact on the environment.
In addition to its eco-friendliness, bamboo silk also has a number of other benefits. It is incredibly soft and silky to the touch, making it a popular choice for clothing and bedding. It is also hypoallergenic and moisture-wicking, which means that it can help to regulate body temperature and keep you cool and comfortable throughout the night.
However, it is important to note that not all bamboo silk is created equal. Some manufacturers use harsh chemicals in the production process that can negate the eco-friendliness of the material. It is important to look for bamboo silk that has been produced using sustainable, non-toxic methods in order to ensure that you are truly getting a green and eco-friendly product.
Overall, bamboo silk is an exciting and promising alternative to traditional silk that offers both environmental and practical benefits. Whether you are looking for luxurious bedding or stylish clothing, bamboo silk is a great choice that is sure to satisfy you.

How Jewelry can Elevate an Outfit
Tumblr media
Jewelry has been used by humans for centuries as a form of self-expression, cultural significance, and as an accessory to enhance one's appearance. Jewelry can be worn in many different ways, from necklaces to bracelets, earrings, and rings. Not only can jewelry be beautiful and ornamental, but it can also elevate an outfit and give it the finishing touch it needs. The right piece of jewelry can transform a simple outfit into a standout look, making it more stylish and sophisticated.
Jewelry can be used to add a pop of color to an otherwise neutral outfit. For example, a bright statement necklace can add a touch of vibrancy to a black dress or a plain white shirt. Similarly, a colorful pair of earrings can accentuate the eyes or bring out the natural tones of the skin. Jewelry can also be used to highlight certain features of an outfit. A long necklace can draw attention to a plunging neckline or a pair of earrings can complement a sleek updo.
When it comes to formal events, jewelry can play an even more important role in an outfit. A simple yet elegant pair of diamond earrings or a delicate pendant necklace can add subtle sophistication to a formal gown. On the other hand, a bold statement piece can add drama and glamour to a simple dress.
Jewelry can also be used to add a personal touch to an outfit, reflecting an individual's personality and style. For example, a vintage-inspired brooch can add a touch of nostalgia to a modern outfit, while a personalized bracelet can show off an individual's unique sense of style.
In conclusion, jewelry is a versatile accessory that can elevate any outfit. From adding a pop of color to highlighting certain features, jewelry can enhance an outfit and make it more stylish and sophisticated. Whether it's a simple pair of earrings or a bold statement necklace, the right piece of jewelry can transform an outfit and make it truly unforgettable.

Diamonds and Why it is So Expensive?
Tumblr media
Diamonds are one of the most precious and highly valued gemstones on the planet. They are known for their brilliance, durability, and rarity. Diamonds are formed deep within the earth's mantle, where immense heat and pressure cause carbon atoms to bond together in a crystalline structure. The process of diamond formation takes millions of years, and only a small fraction of the diamonds that are formed are suitable for use in jewelry.
There are several reasons why diamonds are so expensive. The first and foremost reason is their rarity. As mentioned earlier, diamonds are formed under very specific geological conditions, making them extremely rare. Additionally, the mining process for diamonds is both costly and labor-intensive. Diamond mines require extensive infrastructure and equipment, and the extraction process can be dangerous and difficult.
Another reason why diamonds are so expensive is their perceived value. Diamonds have been associated with wealth and status for centuries, and this perception has only increased in recent years. The demand for diamonds is high, and the diamond industry has done a remarkable job of creating an aura of desirability around these precious stones. This demand, coupled with the scarcity of diamonds, has driven up the price of these gemstones.
Finally, the process of cutting and polishing diamonds is also a factor in their high cost. Diamond cutters are highly skilled craftsmen who use specialized equipment to cut and polish each stone to maximize its brilliance and sparkle. This process can take weeks or even months to complete, and the cost of this labor is reflected in the price of the finished product.
In conclusion, diamonds are expensive because they are rare, demand is high, and the mining, cutting, and polishing processes are costly. While there are other precious gemstones available, diamonds continue to be highly valued and sought after due to their beauty, durability, and perceived value.

Fast Fashion
Tumblr media
Fast fashion is a term used to describe the trend of quickly producing and selling inexpensive clothing. This practice has become increasingly popular in recent years, as consumers demand low-priced clothing that is trendy and fashionable. However, fast fashion has come under scrutiny for its negative impact on the environment and the people who work in the industry.
One of the biggest problems with fast fashion is its impact on the environment. The production of cheap clothing requires a lot of resources, including water, energy, and raw materials. This leads to a significant amount of waste and pollution, as factories release toxic chemicals into the air and water. Additionally, fast fashion encourages consumers to buy more clothing than they need, leading to a cycle of overconsumption and waste.
Another issue with fast fashion is the impact it has on the people who work in the industry. Many fast fashion companies outsource their production to countries with low labor costs, such as Bangladesh and China. Workers in these countries are often paid very low wages and work in unsafe conditions. In some cases, they may even be working in sweatshops, where they are forced to work long hours in hazardous conditions.
Despite these issues, fast fashion continues to be a popular trend. Consumers are drawn to the low prices and trendy styles, and many people see it as a way to stay fashionable without breaking the bank. However, there are alternatives to fast fashion, such as buying secondhand clothing or investing in high-quality, sustainable clothing. By making more mindful choices when it comes to fashion, we can help reduce the negative impact that fast fashion has on the environment and the people who work in the industry.

Does Clothing Change According to Social Status?
Clothing is an important aspect of human life, as it not only provides protection and comfort but also plays a significant role in social interaction. It is a means of self-expression and identity, as well as a way to communicate social status. Throughout history, clothing has been used to differentiate various social classes, and this trend continues in modern times. Social status is often defined by wealth, education, occupation, and other factors. These factors influence clothing choices, and people often use clothing to display their social status.
In many cultures, clothing is a sign of wealth and is used to distinguish between social classes. In ancient times, for example, royalty wore luxurious clothing made of expensive materials such as silk and gold, while peasants wore simple and practical clothing made of cheaper materials. Even today, wealthy individuals often wear high-end designer clothing that is expensive and exclusive. This clothing is a clear sign of their social status, and it sets them apart from those who cannot afford such luxury.
Education and occupation also play a role in determining social status, and this is evident in the clothing choices of individuals. Professionals, such as doctors and lawyers, often wear formal and sophisticated clothing to convey their expertise and status. On the other hand, blue-collar workers, such as construction workers and mechanics, wear practical and durable clothing that is often associated with manual labor.
In conclusion, clothing does change according to social status. It is a means of self-expression and identity, and people often use clothing to display their social status. Wealth, education, and occupation are some of the factors that influence clothing choices, and clothing is often used to distinguish between various social classes. While clothing has evolved over time, its role in defining social status remains an important aspect of human life.

The Trend of Animal Prints in Clothing
Tumblr media
Animal prints have been a popular fashion trend for decades and continue to be a staple in many people's wardrobes. From leopard to zebra to snake prints, they have been seen on everything from dresses to shoes to handbags. The trend of animal prints can be traced back to the early 20th century when Hollywood stars began wearing them in films. The trend then exploded in the 1960s with the rise of the mod and rock and roll eras. Animal prints became associated with the rebellious and edgy youth culture of the time.
In recent years, animal prints have made a comeback and have been seen on runways and in street style. The trend has been embraced by designers and celebrities alike, with everyone from Victoria Beckham to Rihanna incorporating animal prints into their collections. The prints have been updated with new colorways and textures, making them more versatile and accessible than ever before.
The appeal of animal prints lies in their ability to add a bold statement to any outfit. They can be worn as a statement piece or paired with neutral colors to create a more subtle look. Animal prints also come in a wide range of sizes and styles, making them easy to incorporate into any personal style.
However, some argue that the trend of animal prints promotes the use of real animal skins in fashion, which has drawn criticism from animal rights activists. Many designers have responded to this criticism by using synthetic materials in their animal print designs.
In conclusion, the trend of animal prints in clothing is a classic and versatile style that has stood the test of time. While it may not be everyone's cup of tea, animal prints have proven to be a popular and enduring fashion trend that will continue to be seen on runways and in street style for years to come.

The Details of a Japanese Kimono
Tumblr media
The Japanese kimono is a traditional garment that has been an integral part of Japanese culture for centuries. A kimono is a long, flowing robe that is typically made from silk or cotton, and is worn by both men and women. The design and color of a kimono can vary greatly, depending on the occasion for which it is being worn. A kimono worn for a funeral, for example, would typically be black or dark blue, whereas a kimono worn for a wedding would be more colorful and intricate.
One of the most distinctive features of a kimono is its sleeves, which are very wide and extend almost to the ground. The sleeves are designed to allow the wearer to move gracefully, and to accentuate the fluid lines of the garment. The collar of a kimono is also an important feature, and can be either straight or curved. The type of collar used on a kimono can also indicate the formality of the occasion for which it is being worn.
Another important feature of a kimono is the obi, which is a wide sash that is tied around the waist to secure the kimono in place. The obi can be made from a variety of materials, including silk, cotton, or even leather, and can be very elaborate and decorative. The way in which the obi is tied can also vary, depending on the occasion and the wearer's personal style.
The patterns and designs used on a kimono are also an important part of the garment's beauty and significance. Some kimonos feature simple, understated designs, while others are adorned with intricate embroidery, beading, or painting. The designs used on a kimono can be inspired by nature, mythology, or even historical events.
Overall, the Japanese kimono is a beautiful and complex garment that is steeped in tradition and symbolism. From its flowing sleeves to its intricate patterns and designs, the kimono is a testament to the rich history and culture of Japan.

Why Mens Formal Wear Don’t Evolve as Much as Women
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When it comes to formal wear, it has become quite evident that men's attire hasn't evolved as much as women's clothing. One of the primary reasons behind this could be the fact that women's fashion has always been more versatile than men's. Women can experiment with different styles, designs, and colors, while men's fashion remains relatively restricted. Additionally, men's formal wear has always been associated with tradition, and there is a certain level of conservatism when it comes to dressing up for formal occasions. This is why men's suits have remained largely unchanged over the years, with only minor variations in lapel size, button placement, and fabric patterns.
Moreover, there is a significant difference in the way men and women approach shopping for formal wear. Women are known to be more inclined towards fashion and are willing to invest in new and trendy outfits for each event. They are also more likely to follow the latest fashion trends and are willing to experiment with different styles. On the other hand, men usually prefer to stick to the classic and timeless styles that have been around for decades. They are less likely to invest in a new suit for a one-time event and would rather stick to the one they already have.
Another reason why men's formal wear hasn't evolved as much as women's is the lack of exposure and attention given to men's fashion in the media. Women's fashion is often highlighted and discussed in various media outlets, including fashion magazines, blogs, and social media platforms. In contrast, men's fashion is often overlooked and receives very little coverage. This lack of exposure means that men are not as influenced by fashion trends as women are, and they are less likely to experiment with new styles.
In conclusion, the reason why men's formal wear hasn't evolved as much as women's is due to several factors, including conservatism, limited options, and the lack of exposure in the media. While women's fashion continues to evolve and push boundaries, men's formal wear remains relatively stagnant. However, this doesn't mean that men's fashion doesn't have the potential for change. With time, men's fashion could become more versatile and inclusive, catering to a wider range of styles and preferences.

Hi! It’s Celine!
Tumblr media
Hello! My name is Lin Fang Yi, aka Celine and I am currently 19 years old. I am half Taiwanese and half Indonesian, and I have lived 17 years of my life in Thailand, therefore during my semester breaks, I’m always traveling to many different countries.
I first joined Taylor’s Foundation in Design during the August 2022 intake, which at the time of this post, I am in my second semester of my foundation program. Initially, I was’t very sure on what degree I want to take after my foundation is over, but now I have decided that I want to continue into fashion for my degree.
There are a few reasons why I want to pursue in fashion. One of them being making my own clothing line in the future. Another one is that I want to design and create my dream wedding dress. I love the idea of being able to bing out my and others divine feminine energy through beautiful and elegant dresses and outfits.
UPDATE: I have changed my mind and I have applied for Mass Communication in Advertising and Brand Management. BUT I still have the same dream about creating my own clothing line.

Assignment 2 Progression 2
Tumblr media
It has been a week since I printed my croquis and I have started to tear out all the pages I was using for my designs. I noticed a quite prominent color scheme throughout the magazine. Blue, pink, and yellow. Although there were a couple of other colors, but they were quite hard to work with.
Personally, I love dresses, so all my designs are dresses. I have got ball gowns, the fit and flare, form fitted, and mermaid tail dresses, and most of these are inspired by red carpet dresses I have seen over the years. For example, the huge gem on the chest and bodes on pink and white ballgown, was inspired by the dress by Schiaparelli’s Lion Head dress here it features a large lion head fixed on the upper torso area. This dress was recently seen during Paris Fashion Week and it made headlines due to Kylie Jenner also wearing a dress that very closely resembles what was shown on the runway.
Another design I did was a silhouette that resembles a mushroom with a blue monochrome color way. This design came to me when I cut off a puffy part of a large gown where there were many elastic gathered points and I took a rounder shape then moved it up and down my model. I found that using that shape as the top would look more interesting. Then comes the bottom. I figured I wanted the volume of the top half to be more exaggerated so I decided to out a skin tight bottom on the croquis which turned out better than I expected so I left it like that.
overall , the experience of putting and pasting, working with the colors<, shapes was very enjoyable. It made me realize that it makes it really easy for me to visualize a design when I can see and touch the materials I am working with.

Augmented Reality and Fashion
Digital Artist, Graphic Designer, 3D GeneralistAugmented reality (AR) is quickly becoming a popular technology in the fashion industry. AR has the ability to revolutionize the way we shop for clothes, accessories, and beauty products. With AR, customers can try on clothes and accessories virtually, and in real-time, without ever having to leave their homes. This technology can help customers save time and money, and also make the shopping experience more enjoyable.
One way AR is used in fashion is through virtual try-on experiences. Customers can use their smartphones or other devices to see how they would look in different outfits or accessories. This is especially helpful when shopping online, as customers can't physically try on the clothes before purchasing. AR technology allows customers to see how the clothes would fit and look on them, helping them make better-informed decisions when it comes to purchasing clothes and accessories.
In addition to virtual try-on experiences, AR is also being used in fashion shows. AR can enhance the runway experience by creating 3D models and animations that can be projected onto the runway, giving the audience a more immersive experience. This technology can also be used to showcase products in a more creative and engaging way, making fashion shows more visually appealing and memorable.
Another way AR is used in fashion is through virtual mirrors. Customers can use AR technology to try on makeup or hairstyles virtually, without having to physically apply the products. This allows customers to experiment with different looks and find the perfect one for them, without the hassle of washing off makeup or having to wait for hair to grow back.

Assignment 2 Progression 1
Tumblr media
When I first found out that we are required to use printed paper with patterns and designs I thought “Oh no, I don’t have anything of that sort. I have no printers or magazines laying around my apartment, so I opted to go buy a fashion magazine that was 10RM in the book store. The magazine was super with the price considering the amount of potential I saw in it. There were many pages consisting of colorful fabrics wrinkled and rippled in a nice way which I thought I can incorporate the shadows and shapes into my designs.
Then comes the croquis. The struggle of finding a nice, plain yet elegant croquis online was a hassle. I spent hours browsing through Pinterest and finally found one was suited the vibe I was going for. It was what seem like an illustration of a slender, petite asian with a very emotionless yet elegant expression which I really liked, so I chose that one model for all ten of my designs.
For the first week we got our assignment I was in Jakarta, in my cousins house. Since I don’t have a printer here in Malaysia and plus it also costs money to print, I asked my cousin to print my croquis for me. Save money, live smart. Thats my motto. I got them printed and started to do the tedious job of cutting out the croquis as best as I possibly can. Since the model was not only skinny, it was also quite small because I have to fit all ten of them on a piece of A3 paper, I only had a large pair of scissors to work with so I strained my eyes trying not to chop off any of the limbs. I decided to take a rest after after cutting them out and continue my assignment in the following week.
