💟 SHERLOCK HOLMES CAN FINALLY SMILE

IGN posted a humorous article pointing out the ridiculous depths to which the Doyle family had tried to control the character of Sherlock Holmes: 'specifically, over any version in which he was… well, nice. Now that, as of January 1, 2023, Sherlock is fully in the public domain, let’s look back at The Curious Case of the Illicit Smile…' I think we're all smiling now.

💟 GAY SHERLOCK PASTICHE

There are 45 already listed on Goodreads. What is pastiche? An artistic work in a style that imitates that of another work, artist, or period. In this case ... Victorian era Sherlock Holmes stories. Ones already out of copyright prior to 2023. Just thought we'd share ... If you need a good read. Ty for the reminder ... (to the person who replied to a snarky ask and I forgot to save the amazing reply!)

She will be talking to us all about The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes (TPLOSH) and its influence on the show and its writers. If you haven't watched that film we will be spoiling the plot, so be warned. the flower behind John’s ear... a tplosh reference?

I could swear there was something so familiar about seeing John Watson with a flower tucked behind his ear, and then I remembered - Watson wore a flower behind the very same ear in the Private Life of Sherlock Holmes (Mofftiss’ fave movie) though it’s a red one, rather than white. 

Watson has the flower behind his ear when he bursts into the room following Holmes being asked if he found a woman attractive, and the interruption inspires Holmes to lie - Holmes lies, saying he and Watson are in a romantic relationship. 

When the dancers catch wind of that hot gossip, they start shooting him looks, rather like the ones Bus Lady was sending John’s way, though they’re not doing it cause of the flower behind his ear.

Watson’s still wearing the flower later when he rushes home to confront Holmes, saying: “How could you invent such a dastardly lie?”

Things I’m Implying: John Watson wearing a flower behind his ear via tplosh is tied to Sherlock Holmes lying about him. But, the flower is a different colour in our version, so there’s a change: red to white, suggesting things like purity & innocence. I think that’s meant to be a reflection of our Sherlock telling a different lie, while also being a reflection of our John being an innocent here. In this version, the lie is about John being with a woman, rather than with a man. Meaning the truth is you know…. maybe…..ze opposite.
