I Hear the Rising of the Sea

two drabbles written for the 8/2/2025 SWG Instadrabbling (one a drabble and a quarter, the second a true trabble):

for the prompt: moon, autumn, soft, laughter

The yellow autumn moon hung low in the sky, round and full, as Sam passed through the quiet streets of Mithlond. He could smell the wind off the sea, fresh and faintly salty, and he could hear it too, the lapping of waves against wooden hulls and stone harbor walls. He hummed old Bilbo’s last song as he walked, until he heard soft voices and laughter up ahead.

The buildings fell away and the harbor opened up, the Gulf of Lhûn shimmering gently in the moonlight. A ship awaited by the nearest dock, sails still furled, and a tall golden-haired figure standing by Círdan turned to smile a greeting at Sam. “Well met, Master Samwise!” said Glorfindel. “Are you ready for one last journey?”

Frodo’s dreams had been filled with the sound of the Sea for many years, though he did not know it. The rushing sound of water he had mistaken for rivers instead, though when he listened to the Brandywine or, later, to the Anduin, he found that they were not quite right. His dreams too sometimes carried the faintest smell of salt, especially after he returned from his journey, and whenever they did he woke with an ache and a longing in his heart for something he could not identify.

When he came to the Havens at last, though, he understood.

I'll pivot and (attempt to) post more art-related work throughout the remainder of this year. I didn't expect this project to take up the majority of my Tumblr feed, but I know that'll change with time.

Eru Ilúvatar, the Father of All, is the supreme being of Eä and sole keeper of Airefëa (the Secret Fire or Flame Imperishable). The Ainur (besides Melkor) were subject to the will of Eru and participated in the creation of Arda through the Music of the Ainur. Eru, the All-Powerful, alone could bring independent life into existence using the Secret Fire, a power Melkor sought for himself.

This pin is an original heraldic device designed to represent Eru Ilúvatar. An element from each Valar heraldic device has been used to create this design. This was done as a way to convey how all the Valar and their power originate from Tolkien's omnipotent creator. In the center of Eru's device is a ring of fire, which is meant to represent the Secret Fire.

This is a limited edition version with unique coloring and glows in the dark. I'm so thrilled with how these turned out! Definitely one of my absolute favorites!
