Netflix Italy at it again by translating "I can't stop liking you" with "I can't stop appreciating you" in the sub of The Summer Hikaru Died. I have no words LMFAO

I just finished sculpting this bust of Hikaru from "The Summer Hikaru Died"! Although I've been reading the manga since it first came out in my language, it was the absolutely gorgeous cinematography and animations of the anime that made me crave to make some art of the characters.

They did that in Italian too with "I appreciate you"... just why
There's also like, other errors in the subtitles themselves (Kaoru is misspelled multiple times and there are grammatical errors and wonky dialogues) they did a crappy job in general, sadly
"Suki" is always translated as "like/love" when it comes to heterosexual dynamics, but when it's two male or female characters saying it it's suddenly "ambiguous" and "it could mean anything !!"
It also makes absolutely no sense in the context of the scene. Yoshiki was crying because Hikaru never said he liked him in THAT sense.
The scene becomes just silly by implying that his best friend in the world, the person he grew up with, never told Yoshiki that he's appreciated or cool
the netflix adaptation of the summer hikaru died translating “i like you a lot” to “i think you’re cool” in portuguese and “i appreciate you” in french is crazy work welcome back 2019 neon genesis evangelion netflix redub

This might be controversial, but am I the only one who finds the piano sequence in You Can (not) Redo extremely cringe ?
Like, I genuinely cannot watch it with a straight face. Every time I rewatch the movie I have to skip that scene or else my body will recoil in...I don't even know what emotion exactly. I just know it's not a pleasant one.
The scene starts off okay, but the moment the horses and the rainbow piano with Kaworu and Shinji's still images slapped on top appear, oh god.
And the thing is, it's actually a pretty sweet moment, with Shinji finding a reason to smile after saying he would never do that again in 2.0. , but I just can't 😭

After I don't even know how long I finally managed to find this gorgeous and very rare Garage Kit.

I finished painting it today, and I really love the sculptor's style.
The kit traces a scene from the anime "Waraeba ii to Omouyo" or 'I think you should smile", and was produced in 1996 by Musasiya and sold as a Japanese exclusive at a single edition of the Summer Wonder Festival.

[Sorry for the quality of the pictures, but trying to upload higher quality ones makes my tumblr crash for some reasons]

After years and upon multiple rewatch of The End of Evangelion, I'm still trying to decipher what this scene meant.
Of course, Shinji was visualizing himself as the Rei clones he and Misato discovered in, if I remember correctly, episode 23.
That's just the surface explaination, but what is this visual supposed to convey on a deeper note and inside of the movie ?
Is it because Eva 01, and consequentially Shinji, got its core (that transformed into a vagina) penetrated by longinus' lance, giving birth to the three of life, making Shinji visualize himself with a feminine body ? Is it because, deep down, Shinji *wants* to have a feminine body ? Is it because he thinks he looks like Rei ? Or is it because the merging of souls during Third Impact messed up with his mind ?
I still have no clue, but it must've had a deeper meaning if they decided to include that frame into the movie and give a little more focus to it than the rest of the sequence

I finally finished painting this beautiful GK of Rei.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Only 200 prints were made of this kit, and it was sold by the New Line company as an exclusive to Japan at the 1999 Summer Wonder Festival.
Considering how rare it is, painting it made me a bit anxious 😅
The pose is inspired by an illustration made at the time by, I'm pretty sure, Takeshi Honda.

For the book cover I decided to paint "The Happy Prince and Other Tales" by Oscar Wilde, as it's mentioned several times in the new movies.

Just finished painting this statue of Kaworu I've been working on for a while now. The sculpting process alone took me weeks, but I'm sooooo proud of the final product, especially because it's the first full body figure I made that stands up without falling lol
I love the more stylized approach I'm taking for the faces, as I think they look more like their animated counterparts. Definitely more fun than realism/semi-realism

"Evangelion is the story of a protagonist who, despite the repetition of the same experiences, constantly gets up again. It is the story of an attempt, that of moving forward, of proceeding at least one step. It is the story of resolution, of the will to be together with others even if one is blocked by the fear of touching the other, at the cost of enduring a vague loneliness"
- Hideaki Anno
I don't think the intent of the series was to make the viewers hate Shinji, nor the rest of the cast for that matter (even Gendo)
Evangelion is a story about flawed and incredibly humane people inflicting pain on themselves and onto others because of their inability to open up to other people and be true to themselves, and Shinji is the extreme of it.
The viewer isn't supposed to hate him, but to see his flaws, see him reiterate the same errors again and again and come to the conclusion that "I have some parts of me that are like him" and better themselves.
Shinji is an emotionally stunted, abused and neglected 14 y.o. who later on continues with others the circle of abuse the adult figures in his life inflicted upon him.
He's both a victim and a perpetrator, a morally gray person whose actions (and inaction) are inexcusable, but understandable.
My takeaway is more of a "I pity him, but I shouldn't be like him"
(talking only about the og series. In the Rebuilds he's completely different)
It was a big shock to finish Neon Genesis Evangelion and discover that everyone hated Shinji and you were supposed to hate Shinji
I pitied him

Oh we’re going there for real! Yoshiki being attached to ‘HIKARU’ because he sees himself in him, identifying with the label “monster” because of his alienation and internalized homophobia from growing up queer in a rural village……!!!
