Westerners will argue that eating dogs is an objectively evil cultural practice because "they were domesticated to be human companions" like okay first of all look at how pigeons are treated in western countries today. Almost every single pigeon you see in urban and suburban environments are domestic pigeons they were domesticated over 10000 years ago, they have been common pets of humans throughout history and remain prized and protected in many parts of the world today. And your culture hunts them for sport, or poisons and maims them for the crime of shitting on cars and storefronts. I have a feeling your culture's exceptionalism around dogs is less about them being a domesticated animal, and more about framing nonwhite cultures as uncivilised. Second of all you're saying that a species' worth depends on its proximity to humans like that's supposed to convince me you care about animal welfare? Maybe you really do care, but regardless this argument does nothing but serve western hegemony

The conflict between children and adults in kids media works an allegory for class struggle. The controlling adults with all the power do not understand the needs of the children, and their class interests do not align, fomenting a rebellion within the child class. In this essay I will

I dunno man. I found out today that a subway sandwich is $14 now. A shitty subway footlong sandwich that isn't actually 12 inches long and is occasionally made with expired ingredients and was never a great option to start with. I ate those in high school because I was broke and at the mall a lot.
There are poke bowls in my city from a local place for $16. Super fresh fish and veg, warm rice, more than I can eat in one sitting, for the price of a sandwich and a drink at america's most mid-tier sandwich shop.
Someone in another post said (paraphrased) you used to be able to get something mediocre for cheap, but now the mediocre things cost as much as the nice things so why would you?

Can we talk about how in zombie shows/movies/books they always find a veterinarian and not a surgeon? Are veterinarians deemed more likely to survive the apocalypse?

A tip for excellent writing I just learned: Don't introduce a character with their Dramatic Backstory. It makes readers go "oh alright this is the Dramatic Background Story Character" and establishes a baseline of Tragic, either for the story as a whole or this character in particular. With no contrast of light and dark, pure darkness isn't impactful, it just looks like the absence of anything to look at.
If you really want someone's dramatic backstory to hit the audience like a gut punch, let them get to know the character first. That way the dark backstory doesn't come off as a description of who they are, but an explanation to why they are the way they are. Bonus points for connecting it to something that's already been established as a part of the character - what a devastating blow to suddenly put together that hold on, that funny quirky thing that they always do is a fucking trauma response.

"everyone should care about accessibility because most people will become disabled at some point in their life" is a logical argument and I understand its popularity
however, everyone should care about accessibility because disabled people are fellow human beings living in the same society as you who deserve the same rights as you
thank you good night
