Spilled Coffee - Chapter 13
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Everyone hide, I think they’re coming!,” Justin hushed while everyone hurried to a hiding spot.
Y/n crouched behind the kitchen counter next to Chengcheng and held her breath when she heard voices from right outside the door. Not soon after, the lock clicked and Cas and Yanjun entered the house.
Cas dropped her keys onto the shelf next to the door. “Where are my parents?,” she wondered while taking off her shoes, “and why is it so quiet? What is Justin up to this time?”
When she turned on the lights in the living room, everyone jumped out of hiding, shouting “Surprise! Happy Birthday Cas!” which startled her enough to make her scream and instinctively grab Yanjun’s hand.
Everyone started to laugh at their friend’s reaction and Cia shouted “I can’t believe I got the chance to see something like this again,” earning a loud groan form Cas.
“I don’t even know if I should be touched or really mad at you,” she said, pinching her nose bridge, “I just got scared to death for a moment okay?”
“Uh huh, are you still scared then?,” Justin said, wiggling his eyebrows at his sister.
“No?,” Cas responded cocking her head to the side. A wide grin appeared on the young boy’s face which confused her even more. Mockingly he asked, “Then why are you still holding his hand?”
With a yelp she pulled her hand out of Yanjun’s and took a few steps away from the boy who was just grinning at her in amusement, “That’s something I could get used to,” he chuckled. Cas just stood there dumbfounded, trying to hide her blushing cheeks with her hands.
“Now,” Justin said while pulling both Cas and Zeren into the middle of their circle, “it’s time we officially congratulate our special guests.”
“I’m living here you loser,” Cas snorted. “Okay,” he sighed, “Our special guest and my boring sister.”
One after another wished their friends a happy birthday with a hug and a small present they prepared.
Cas jumped and squealed in joy after unwrapping the twin’s gift, “You really got me an Exo Jersey? How did you even get that, I thought they were limited edition?”
“I got my connections,” Cia winked and finger gunned. “Thank you guys so much,” she said and pulled them into a hug.
“You better make sure to hug me for this one too,” her brother said, handing her a wrapped box. Cautiously the girl took the box, “I swear to god Justin if this is another prank I will kill you.”
Holding up both hands he answered, “Wow, I feel betrayed. Is this really how you think of me?” Without even batting an eye she responded, “Yes,” and started to unpack the present carefully. “Chill, it’s from mom and dad too,” he said while rolling his eyes.
“Oh my god Justin,” she whispered and hugged her brother tightly, “I can’t believe you managed to persuade them to buy this.” Patting her head he answered smugly, “Well, I couldn’t stand it anymore seeing you trying to work with this old-ass laptop.”
“Even though I always say I hate you, I’m actually really glad to have you as my brother,” she mumbled into the hug. “Love you too sis.”
“This is so beautiful!,” Cia sobbed, destroying the moment completely. Zeren patted her back with a sympathetic look, “It’s okay.” For a moment they looked each other in the eye just smiling until Justin groaned, “Ew! That’s too cheesy for me!,” in over exaggerated disgust.
Cas and y/n shared a look, “Did we miss something?” Simultaneously the pair answered, “No?” making Justin raise his voice, “You two call a date nothing?”
Cia shrieking, “Justin!” loudly, drowned out all the disbelieving “A date?” shouts of the group. “Friendship cancelled,” she said, boxing his shoulder, “I thought I could trust you!”
“Who would ever think Justin could keep a secret,” Zhengting huffed, “I’d rather trust Cheng than Justin.” “Hey!”
“Anyways, could you all take a moment and appreciate the god-like matchmaking I did here?,” Justin bragged, “Things I did? THAT!”
Chengcheng just rolled his eyes and pushed Justin away to hand his best friend the gift he and Yanjun prepared together, “Move Bitch, it’s time for the best present.”
Cas laughed at Justin’s dumbstruck expression while taking the packet Chengcheng was giving her. “Sorry, but nothing’s gonna be a better present than Justin’s expression just now,” the girl laughed.
She let out an ugly squeal upon seeing the photo album her best friends had made for her. The cover was showing a picture of the three of them on their first day of school, which also marked the beginning of their friendship.
“Look at how ugly Yanjun was back then,” Cas laughed hysterically at the sight. “Oh, so you think I’m handsome now?,” he teased, wiggling his eyebrows at her which immediately made her choke on her laughter. The group laughed at her reaction and Chengcheng patted her back until she stopped coughing.
The album started by showing pictures of them from elementary school up to them now in university. At the end each of the boys left a cute and touching message, making her tear up and pull both of them into a tight hug. “That’s so sweet, thank you so much. I love it!,” she sniffed.
Letting go of the boys, she found that Zhengting was already offering her a tissue. With a grateful smile she took it and patted her eyes dry.
The friends continued to give out presents to both Cas and Zeren until only Cia was left to give Zeren her present. Justin nudged her with his shoulder, “It’s time.” Cia stared at him with eyes wide open in panic, “No no no no no, I’m not ready. I can’t do this!”
While the others were already occupied greeting the new guests, Justin and Cia were still bickering around. With a roll of his eyes he grabbed her arm and dragged her upstairs, into his room and locked the door from the outside.
“Justin! Justin! Are you fucking kidding me right now? Let! Me! Out!,” she shouted while hammering on the door. The younger boy laughed, “Not until you give Zeren your present.”
A loud groan could be heard from inside the room. She turned around, just to find Zeren standing in the middle of the room who stared at her in confusion. “What are you doing here?,” she stammered. “Well, Justin told me to wait here for him,” he said while scratching his neck, “What’s up with that present he’s talking about?”
Cia visibly stiffened at the question and her face turned bright red. Immediately Zeren had a worried expression on his face, “Are you okay?,” he asked while putting a hand on her shoulder, “You look like you’re going to faint.”
“I’m okay. I guess,” she mumbled playing with the letter in her hands trying to avoid Zeren’s concerned gaze. She took a deep breath to calm herself a bit and looked him straight into the eyes.
“You know what? Screw the letter. Because you’re just as dense as me, I’ll just make it crystal clear for you to understand. I like you. As in really, really liking you. Ever since I saw you at the cafe smiling at me with that most beautiful smile I’ve ever seen, I really wanted to get to know you and then the more I got to know you, the more I realised that you’re the sweetest person on this planet to me. Like, you care for everyone and listen to me and make me feel better, whenever I feel down. Like, to me you’re the cutest and purest person I know so.. I really fell for you and I had countless sleepless nights because of you and I can’t even express how happy I was when you asked me out for the date. I really just wanted to get that off my chest.” Cia covered her face with her hands in embarrassment at the end of her confession.
Zeren blinked and just stared at the girl who just confessed her feelings for him.
“I’m sorry if this was too mu-,” Zeren’s abrupt embrace turned the rest of Cia’s sentence into an ugly squeal.
“I can’t believe this is actually happening. Is this a dream? You’re so cute, oh my god!,” he chuckled into her hair.
Looking up at his face she breathed, “Does this mean you like m-”
Before she could finish her sentence she was interrupted by a soft pair of lips on hers. The kiss was soft, and incredibly gentle and before she even knew it was already over and Zeren looked at her with the biggest smile on his face, “Obviously! Do you even know how many shifts I changed with Chengcheng just so I’d be at the cafe when you were there? Why would I ask you out on a date if I didn’t like you? I like you so much, I was almost dying overthinking all of this!”
Now it was Cia’s turn to lean in, tip-toeing a bit to reach his face, and kiss him, this time with all the love and longing that has built up over the last two months. She could feel his arms wrapping around her waist to pull her closer and smiled against his lips in response.
As they pulled apart, just smiling at each other, Zeren put his forehead against Cia’s, caressing her face with his thumbs he gently asked, “Would you like to be my girlfriend?”
She smiled, wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him in for a hug, “Of course dummy!” He breathed a relieved laugh, as he held her close to him, “Thank you,” he murmured into her ear, making her chuckle into his chest.

About Spilled Coffee
Hey guys~
As you noticed there hasn’t been a new chapter for quite some time now. And we’re very sorry about that!
The story has, however, not been discontinued!! We’re still planning to finish this!
Sadly, we have some communication issues at the moment because one of us just moved abroad and the other doesn’t have a functioning wifi connection.
And since we want to work on this together because we created it together, we will continue working on this as soon as we can talk to each other again. (Unfortunately, we don’t know yet when the wifi is going to work)
Again, we’re very sorry that it takes us so long to update this and also thanks to every single one of you that reads, likes and supports this story!
You’re all amazing!

Spilled Coffee - Chapter 7
A little bit out of breath, Y/n and Cia arrived at the Gymnasium where the party was held. There was loud music, a lot of fancy decoration and a mass of students lingering around in front of the building. The twins were pushing through the crowd towards the entrance, trying not to lose each other. When they finally made it through they were met with even more people, stuffy air and louder music.
“We’re never going to find them like that!“, Y/n shouted over the noise.
Both of them were looking through the mass of people in hope of seeing one of their friends. There were kids dancing, some standing around in groups talking to each other. There was also a suspiciously big group of guys gathered around someone. They were pretty sure it was Justin. Cia laughed at the sight and pointed at him in excitement shouting “Things I did: THAT!“
Y/n over dramatically rolled her eyes and continued to scan the room. Right when they were about to give up y/n caught a glimpse of a white wig and cat ears in the corner of the room. She tapped Cia’s shoulder and with a quick “Found Yanjun“, dragged her there.
When they reached the group, y/n thought that Zeren’s eye lit up for a moment. But she quickly dismissed that thought and blamed it on the flashing party lights.
Their friends were gathered at a small table with various drinks. Yanjun was the first to shove a cup into their hands. Y/n tried to stand as far away from Chengcheng as possible. Meanwhile, Cas complained about being the only girl in the group up until now.
“Wow, we aren’t that bad,“ Yanjun muttered only to be met by Cas punching his shoulder. “Actually, you’re the worst of all!“. The older boy responded by sticking out his tongue and grimacing at her. Y/n thought to herself that both of them were equally horrible and also kind of cute but didn’t say anything.
While she watched Cia and Zeren making fun of Chencheng’s hideous costume she heard Yanjun exclaiming a loud “Oh shit,“ gaining the attention of the whole group.
“What’s wrong?“ Cia asked tilting her head sideways.
He scratched his neck while he read the message on his phone again. “Ting texted me that he’s in the park behind the gym because Justin’s got into trouble again.“
He sighed, “Somebody should go and help him“. Right after he finished his sentence everyone turned their heads towards Cia, who looked at them like a deer in the headlights.
“Why me?“, was her whiny response. “It’s cold and dark outside!“
“Because you’re literally Justin’s soulmate,“ Cas said while rolling her eyes. “You understand how his weird brain works.“
Cia shot her a death glare and started pouting.
“You don’t have to go alone,“ Chengcheng grinned and nudged Zeren towards the pouting girl. Zeren stared at them with wide eyes mouthing his thoughts with a “What? Why me?“
“You really would let a lady go out in the dark all by herself?“ Yanjun said and hit him over the head.
While Cia continuously protested that she could indeed go alone, Yanjun was already pushing the pair towards the exit.
They watched Zeren hesitantly take Cia’s hand to not lose her in the crowd with both ears turning into a bright red. All of them laughed at their friends’ dorky reaction, meanwhile Yanjun and Cas shared a high five.
With a big grin Chengcheng leaned towards Cas, shooting finger guns at her and cheering, “The plan was successful!“
Cas bowed theatrically, “All thanks to the genius I am!“ which made Yanjun scoff. “Yeah, in your dreams“, he smiled and lightly patted her head.
“You guys are pushing my sister too hard,“ y/n laughed, covering her mouth with one hand. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen her that shocked.“
“So now there’s only one thing left to take care of,“ the white haired boy winked.
Right as y/n and Chengcheng wanted to ask what he meant he took Cas by the hand and pulled her into the crowd, disappearing from their friends sight.
The remaining two stared at the empty spot where their friends just vanished from in disbelief.
“Did this really happen right now?“ Chengcheng asked dumbfounded while y/n pinched the bridge of her nose in annoyance. She let out a heavy sigh, “I knew they were going to do something“.
“So what are we gonna do now?“, the boy asked hesitantly. Y/n turned her head, facing him for the first time this evening and immediately let out a choked laugh. The confused and kind of dumb expression on his face made her laugh even more.
“You do know that you look pretty ridiculous right?“, she wheezed. Chengcheng let out a resigned sigh, “Don’t even mention it!“
In the next hour the pair realised that spending time with each other wasn’t as bad as they initially thought and that the other was actually a quite fun person to be around.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
With a sigh y/n put her phone back into her pocket and looked at Chengcheng, “Guess that means we have to go out into the cold, unforgiving darkness now.”
He smiled, his eyes curving into a half-moon shape and hold his arm out for her to grab: “I don’t mind at all. Let’s just see it as a nice little walk.”
Rolling her eyes, y/n grabbed his arm and giggled, “It would be my pleasure, M’lady.”
Chengcheng chuckled in amusement and guided her through the crowd towards the exit.
-----
Walking towards the park, the pair here and then heard screams in the distance. Y/n tensed up and unconsciously clung onto Chengcheng’s arm. When she looked up at him realising what she was doing, she was met with a shit eating grin and he mocked, “Are you scared?”
Immediately she pushed him away, feeling her cheeks turn hot, “Not even one bit!”
With a pout she stomped away, but got jump scared right away by a student in a ghost costume. He tried to hold it in but burst out laughing when he heard her shriek and slapped his forehead only to be met with an angry glare from the girl.
Wiping away his tears he gasped, “I’m sorry! But you should’ve seen yourself.” Y/n wordlessly walked to him and boxed his shoulder. “It was not funny!”
“Okay! Okay! But at least now I know why Cia said Zeren’s useless.” e giggled. “Zeren turns into a statue when he’s startled. Of course he’d never admit it.”
Smiling to herself she thought that Chengcheng, who was now fixing his wig in his phone’s display reflection, was actually a very funny and caring guy. Even though she - mislead by her false first impression - had been so rude and unfair towards him, he still treated her in such a kind way. Part of her wanted to get to know this new side of him more.
Deep in her thoughts, y/n didn’t really pay attention to where they were going. Only listening to Chengcheng’s talking, which was oddly calming to her.
Time went by and as y/n wondered how they were supposed to find Cia and Zeren, the boy next to her nudged her side and asked, “Isn’t that Cia over there?”, pointing at the way ahead. Cia was indeed squatting next to another student y/n didn’t recognize, seemingly talking to him.
Y/n eagerly nodded and grabbed Cheng’s hand in order to walk faster towards them, when suddenly someone jumped at them screaming maniacally. In total shock she shrieked and jumped right into the arms of an unaffected Chengcheng. Clenching her fists and squinching her eyes shut, she felt strong arms reluctantly wrapping around her and a hand patting her head.
The girl opened her eyes and met Chengchengs gaze when she heard familiar laughter from behind. Y/n blankly stared at him for what felt like a minute without a word and he broke out into a fit of laughter. Slowly it hit her that she just got pranked by her sister and Zeren.
She couldn’t believe that she jumped right into Chengcheng’s arms because of some stupid prank. The Chengcheng she hated just hours before. She felt blood rushing to her cheeks and quickly turned around to get some distance in between them.
Y/n saw Cia and Zeren share a high five and heard her mutter, “That’s so cute!”
“Oh shut up,” she scowled, burying her face in her hands in an attempt to hide the redness on her cheeks, “You two. Are. The. WORST.”
“Come on, sister dear, it isn’t that bad," Cia teased and laid her arm around y/n’s shoulder. Rolling her eyes she answered, “Whatever, let’s just go back please.”
“What about Justin though?” Chengcheng asked. Zeren raised a brow, “We’ve done what we could. He’ll survive.”

Spilled Coffee - Chapter 5
What happened in the meantime:
During these one and a half months, everyone kind off settled in, getting used to their daily life at university and getting to know each other better.
Cas introduced Cia and Y/n into her circle of friends and everyone got along rather quickly. Being the two youngest with similar personalities, Cia and Justin were the main reason for the whole group to bond really fast. However, the relationship between Y/n and Chengcheng is still as tense as it was after their first meeting.
