happy birthday to my one and only. some cutesy headcanons to celebrate 🎉 - mac

masterlist

plays guitar and always has a guitar pick on him. he likes to have them between his teeth so he can bite and chew on them.

talks to himself in the mirror. if he’s nervous about a meeting or a date, you bet he’s going to be practising hypothetical conversations with himself in the mirror.

always forgets how tall he is (6’3 🥵) and would regularly bang his head on door frames (at least twice a day.)

will often just like, burst into song?? if there’s a song stuck in his head he’s just going to start singing it with no explanation (connie and sasha would always join in.)

definitely has a stuffed bear he’s had since he was a kid and still sleeps with it on his bed. he’ll hide it if he knows someone is coming over (and if he forgets to hide it he will die of embarrassment even though it is v sweet and no one should feel shame about it!)

modern!au jean has a nose piercing - no one argue with me about this.

okay but jean is just such a good driver. he’ll ask everyone if they have their seatbelts on before he even thinks about starting the engine. you feel so safe when he’s driving (compared to someone like eren because when he’s driving you’re praying to make it out alive.)

this man smells so fucking good. like all you want to do is steal his clothes because they smell good. you best believe when you hug him you’re going to take a big inhale because he just smells amazing 😩

he’s got such nice handwriting. i feel like every man i know irl has the most atrocious handwriting but not jean - his is ✨ aesthetic ✨ and i just know when he was at school he was the kid with all the nice highlighters and gel pens.

jean’s first language is french and just think about him forgetting certain words in english so he kinda just blankly stares at you, expecting you to know what he’s talking about (you don’t - unless you speak french too lmao.)

if anyone is anxious about ordering food at a restaurant or going to the checkout jean is the first to volunteer (jean is 100% the mom friend.)

he gets kinda sad sometimes that he doesn’t have any siblings so if he goes to a friend’s house who has siblings he’s gonna make an effort to interact with them. jean would very happily join in with any tea parties or minecraft games cause he wants that sibling experience 🥲

okay this man gives out the sweetest pet names it makes your heart melt: sweetpea, angel, sunshine, lovebug, mon coeur, mon trésor 🥺

is really good at doing heel clicks. he never learnt to do it he just naturally possesses the talent.

You knew the second the three of them stumbled into the bar that this was going to be a bad idea. But the soft look he'd thrown your way, the gentle squeeze of your shoulder meant to convey reassurance made you rethink denying their requests to go out and celebrate. You've always been swayed so easily by him that you had a hard time saying no.

They're not even five drinks in and things have already started to fall apart. Sasha sits at one of the tables along with a few other scouts, stuffing her cheeks full of bread and washing it down with another glass of beer. Connie and Jean, both tipsy and completely off key, scream a melody of a song long forgotten, clutching each other tightly — whether that be for balance or their bromance, you're not sure.

Jean's eyes light up with something you can't seem to place as you step into the bar, giving each of your friends a once over before rubbing at the bridge of your nose. He stumbles away from Connie, nearly tripping over his own boots before striding up to you.

"Y/N! The life of the party! You finally joined us!" he singsongs and you can smell the taint of alcohol to his breath when he slings an arm around your shoulders, pressing you close to his side. Jean's always been the clingy type of drunk that only came out during rare occasions. Today seemed to be one of them.

You merely shake your head, giving his chest a pat. "I've come to get you back home, Captain's orders. We need to be up bright and early tomorrow," you explain cooly, grabbing a stray napkin from one of the dispenser on the table and wiping away beer and breadcrumbs from his lips that wears a pout.

He doesn't make a fuss when you lead him out the bar, leaning into your touch and humming when he rests his chin on the top of your head as he comes to a stop a few meters outside the wooden doors. The night are has a nip to it, even through the warmth of your survey corps jacket, it has you shrinking back into the material. You try to get a glance up at his face but with each shift of your body makes him pull you impossibly closer to his own.

"I missed you while we were celebrating," he mumbles against your hairline, inhaling and exhaling your scent. Fresh, comforting, like home. You opt to stay silent instead, focusing your attention on the steady rise and fall of his chest behind you, the sound of his soft breathing against the shell of your ear chasing away the possible silence. "I wanted to tell you something important tonight but you didn't show up so..."

"What is it, Jean?"

Your tone was always so delicate around him, like the pluck of the strings of the harp an angel plays, a sweet melody in his ears. For a long time the two of you stand there, curled in each other's shadows before he blows out a slow puff of air.

"I'm in love with you."

You purse your lips together to stop the smile from breaking out on your lips, letting the words settle in the air. He's frozen under your fingertips, waiting for your response with a heart that rattles around his ribcage so loudly that he fears you might hear it. You wonder if you should remind him that the two of you are dating, have been dating for the past year.

Perhaps that's something you'll tease him about the following morning.

Bringing one of his hands up to your lips to you place a tender kiss against his knuckles, trying to soothe panicked expression he sports.

"Tell me that when you're sober, alright?"
