the most annoying people are people who don't understand storytelling. they be like "oooo how convenient that this thing happened to the main character in the very beginning". yeah no shit. that's why the story begins here

I LOVE Superman and was so excited for the movie but right before I saw it I read that it was anti-Israel and so when watching it that’s all I could see. Then when I left the movie I got pissed at myself because I realized that the allegory was clearly supposed to be colonialism as a whole and includes references to the Russia/Ukraine war (the language they created which prob took the longest to do, the countries names, and the fact that the script was finished before Oct 2023) but because of the other pieces that some of which might’ve been added after or were just originally part of the script now allow for people to draw the allegory to Israel/Palestine (US support, military capabilities, races of the civilians, etc.) but that is now being pushed in certain places online and in the news as the sole allegory of the film rather than colonialism generally.
And so now it’s so hard to enjoy this wonderful movie that I loved so much otherwise because even just to see everyone celebrating how “anti-Israel” the movie is is so disheartening and frustrating.
Edit: I am not saying that the film is explicitly anti-Israel, I’m saying that the people who are interpreting it as solely anti-Israel make it hard to enjoy the movie since that narrative is being pushed so hard by the AUDIENCE not the story itself!

It’s so corny the way everyone on the internet now acts like any bisexual woman who makes a joke in the vein of “unfortunately I’m attracted to men too 🙄” is purposefully enacting violent biphobia against themselves instead of….. just making like an extremely surface level joke about how women have to live under misogyny. and their attraction to men puts them in closer proximity to that. We don’t have to coddle men’s feelings at every single turn I promise

One thing that has made me a much more well-adjusted person is a clip I once saw of Hank Green saying that anyone can be in amazing shape as long as being in amazing shape is one of their top three priorities.
(This is obviously a generalization that isn't true for everyone. But it is true for most people and I'm proceeding from there.)
This "top three priorities" framing has genuinely reduced my tendency toward jealousy and self-comparison a lot. Now when I feel envious of someone’s spotless, aesthetic home, I think to myself, “Having a spotless, aesthetic home is probably one of their top three priorities. It’s definitely not one of mine, so I shouldn’t expect my home to look like that.”
Or when I see an influencer with a body that takes a ton of work to maintain: “Maintaining that body is obviously one of her top three priorities, because it’s her livelihood. My livelihood is my brain, so I’m never going to prioritize my body like that.”
It also helps me to identify areas that I actually DO want to prioritize more. I realized in recent years that my envy for my friends who prioritized writing more than I did was NOT going away, so I started to prioritize writing more. (Not top three, but higher priority than it has been in the past.)

“Ugh this prominent women in the Lesbian movement turned out to be a bisexual” “ugh this famous lesbian transitioned into a man” “ugh this queer romance writer turns out to be ace” “ugh this cis feminist author ended up being nonbinary” “ugh this writer on masculinity transitioned into a woman”
Oh no! We might have to recognize liberation as an interconnected intersectional struggle! Ahhh!!! >.<

we seriously need to stop conceding to the personhood trap when it comes to abortion rights. is a fetus a person? thats a spiritual question. i dont care about the answer. should another person dictate what someone can do with their body? simple answer: no.
