It was late afternoon, the sun had just begun coloring the sky with multiple colors. I was heading home from my job at the animal shelter when my back pocket begins to ring. I pull out my phone and see that it was my coworker, Soobin, calling me. That was strange, I just left there, did I forget something?

“Hello?” I answer with confusion.

“Hey Y/N,” Soobin began, “sorry to bother you when you just got done, but... HEY, STOP THAT! GET OFF ME!”

“Hello? Soobin? Is everything alright??” I question as I start to head back to the shelter.

“ACK- ... Good boy,” I hear him clear his throat, “Sorry, can you just come back here for a minute?”

“I’m already on my way, see you in a couple” I hang up and shove my phone back into its original place. I pull open the door handle and enter the building. I almost burst out laughing at the scene in front of me.

A brown cat was sitting on Soobin’s lap, rubbing its head on the man's stomach. Soobin looks up when he hears the door open and tries to remove the cat from his lap. A low growl comes from the beast and it only disappears when Soobin stops shoving.

“Is this why I needed to come back? Hmm?” I stiff a chuckle as I make my way over to them.

“I can’t get any work done with him, you know that. I don’t understand him, why does he like belly rubs so much? He’s a cat...” Soobin complains.

“Everyone has their own likes and dislikes,” I explain, reaching my hand to pet the cat, who instantly purrs at my touch, “Hyuka included”.

“But he’s a cat-“

“It doesn’t matter,” I cut him off, “Now do you want me to help you or not, mister?”

I retract my hand and place them on my hips. Hyuka, aka Huening Kai, aka the cat on Soobin’s lap, stops purring and meows loudly. A white flash causes both Soobin and I to close our eyes. Then I feel something grab my hand and my eyes open back up.

“Why’d you stop” Huening Kai pouts, his brown cat ears drooping downwards, almost disappearing into his hair. He was sitting on the ground in front of me, grasping my hand.

“Sorry Hyuka” I smile.

Oh, did I mention that I work at a hybrid animal shelter? No? Woopsie daisies. But yes, I do work here and I help take care of hybrids who were either left by their owners, need medical attention, and most important, the strays.

Just like Hyuka here, I found him on the streets, head butting people as the walked past. They were all ignoring him until I walked over to him and crouched down. I kinda scared him at first, but he instantly launched forward at me. Head butting my stomach.

I didn’t just work at a hybrid shelter, it also includes normal animals as well. I didn’t know if he was a hybrid or not, but I was going to help him either way. So I brought him back to work, gave him some food and water, and asked him if he was a hybrid and if he could change form.

I know, I know, it seems strange, but if he was, in fact, a hybrid, it makes things slightly easier. To my surprise he was and he changed to the form he is right in front of me. Speaking of which...

“Y/N~” I snap out of it to see two people staring at me.

“Huh?” I blink.

“You blanked out for a minute, are you okay?” Soobin asks, standing up from his chair.

“Oh! Yeah, yeah,” I wave my unoccupied hand at him, “no need to worry, you can return to work. I’ll handle Hyuka.”

Soobin nods and sits back down, returning to his paperwork.

“As for you,” I began, tugging on my hand in his to signal that he should stand, “let’s go back to the room, okay?”

He nods, standing up and waving bye to Soobin. He follows me into the room where all the hybrids are. Everyone has their own room, but this is just the main area.

“Y/N, you’re back~! Are you here to play more?” Beomgyu, a dog hybrid, bounces on over. His tail wagging back and worth waiting for me to say yes.

“I’m sorry-“ I try to reason but my hand gets squeezed, causing me to stop talking.

“No, they’re here for me” Hyuka lowly growls.

“Don’t use that time at me. I’m older than you” Beomgyu remarks.

“Oh hush it you too,” I let out a sigh,” Beomgyu, shouldn’t you be in bed, like everyone else?”

“I-“ he stutters, “Huening Kai isn’t!”

“And he’s about to be, now go on” I shoo him away. He pouts and I assume leaves for his own room. I turn around to see Huening Kai sticking his tongue out and so I remove my hand from his. That got his attention and he stops, looking at me.

“Now, explain to me why you’re awake” I place my hands on my hips once more.

“Well, you see,” he begins, “I tried to sleep after you left, but I couldn’t. So I went to Soobin and tried to cuddle... and I guess I must have annoyed him with my head butting. I’m sorry, I just like belly rubs. Y/N, am I too weird to be a cat?”

He plops on a cushion, ears fully flat against his head and tail wrapping around his leg.

“Oh no no no, you’re not weird! Like I said, we all have our likes and dislikes. Our own quirks” I place my hand on his head, gently petting him. I could hear his low purrs coming through, but also what could have been a mumble.

“Did you say something Hyuka?”

“ᶜᴬᴺ ᴵ ᶜᵁᴰᴰᴸᴱ ᴬᴺᴰ ˢᴸᴱᴱᴾ ᵂᴵᵀᴴ ᵞᴼᵁ?”

My hand stops moving before I completely remove it from his head. He glances up at me with a pout.

“Ahhhhhh, alright” I give in.

“YES! I mean-“ he jumps up from the cushion only to realize that he shouted.

“Shhh- it’s getting late, keep it down,” I scold him, “go get ready, while I go explain to Soobin what’s happen, alright?”

Huening Kai quickly nods his head and scurries off to his room. I quietly laugh at him as I left the room and walked back to the front of the building where Soobin was.

Roasting Chestnuts

“Brrr~ It sure is getting chilly out” I state, mostly to myself, as my numb fingers struggle to zip up my black coat, “gosh dang it, curse you fingers!”

After about five minutes, I managed to secure myself, and practically melt, within the warmth of the coat.

“Y/N! You okay there?” a voice snaps me out of my trance. I open my eyes to see my neighbor,and classmate, Beomgyu, walking over to me.

“Yeah, I’m good. It’s just really cold out and I’d rather stay inside. But, I had to go pick up a few things from the store for my mother” I reply as I hold up a plastic bag filled with items.

“Oo! Did you get any chestnuts?”

“No, why?”

“You know the song, ‘Chestnuts roasting on an open fire~’, right?” he questions, “We should totally do that!”

I ponder for a second before breaking out into a grin, “That sounds like a fun idea! Here, hold this while I go buy some chestnuts.”

I shove the bag into his hand and run back into the store. I skim through each isle before finding what I needed. I grab the bag, paid at checkout, and went back outside.

Beomgyu was leaning against the windows upon my return. He notices me and stands up. I wave the bag in his face with a grin.

“First things first, I have to give my mom her items, then we can roast the chestnuts. I’m so glad we have a fire pit in the backyard” I explain.

After some minor chitchat on the way to my house, and dropping off the items, we head to my backyard. I ask if I could grab the proper utensils and pans from inside. My mother agrees and hands me them.

Beomgyu throws firewood into the fire pit as I throw in some newspapers. Lighting one newspaper on fire with a match, I quickly toss it into the pit. Once the fire was all set, I place everything we needed to make roasted chestnuts out on the ground.

“I’ll be honest, I’ve never really done this before” I shyly rub my hands together.

“No need to worry, I’ll help you,” Beomgyu smiles and reaches for the bag of chestnuts, “We need to score X’s onto the chestnuts, okay?”

I nod and we began to work. A minute later, there was one chestnut left and I go to grab it. But I guess Beomgyu reached as well because both of our hands touched.

“Oh, sorry!” I stumble out, “You can have it.”

“No no,” he shakes his head and grabs the chestnut, placing it into my hand, “you can do the last one.”

“Oh.. okay.” I score the nut and set it into the pan with the rest of them.

“Good! Now we just have to place them over the fire” Beomgyu smiles. I pick up the pan and lay it on top of the fire. I jump slightly at the heat, almost dropping it all.

“Ah, here, let me do it instead” a hand replaces my hand that was holding the pan. I look up to see him staring at the chestnuts.

“Y/N, look! The chestnuts are peeling!” I snap out of it and glance down. The chestnuts were, in fact, peeling.

“Wha-!” my mouth gapes open. I hear him chuckle at my expression as he shakes the pan.

It only took roughly half and hour that Beomgyu deemed the chestnuts ready. He removes the pan and places it onto an oven mitt.

“Now we just have to wait until they cool down first then-“

“Hot!” I shriek and retract my hand. I place my finger in my mouth, trying to relieve the pain.

“Jesus Y/N,” Beomgyu sighs, “Here, let me see it.”

I show him my finger, “I’m such an idiot.”

“Oh hush, it’s just a tiny burn, nothing big. But I’ll agree with you that you are an idiot.”

“Hey!” I remark, pulling my hand away, “whatever.” Beomgyu just laughs at me and I couldn’t help but chuckle afterwards.

“Thanks by the way” he catches his breath, still slightly laughing.

“Nah, thank you,” I turn it around, “this was a fun idea.”

“Let’s just enjoy ourselves some roasted chestnuts.”

Music Class

Summary: I didn’t want anything to do with music. But when I saw that my ‘crush’ was a pianist… I just had to join a music class to get closer.

“Oh god, I’m late,” My breath wheezes as I quickly rush down the large hallway. Loose hairs smacking me in the middle of my forehead though I swiftly swipe it away. Realizing that I had passed the correct door, my feet skid to a halt. I spun around causing my bag to slip off my shoulder and open up. All of my books and supplies slide across the floor. I briskly shove it back into the bag, but it wasn’t a smart idea. Some of the books wouldn’t fit, so I resorted to just carrying them.

I shift the books into one arm and swung my bag on my shoulder once again. Grabbing the doorknob, I cautiously enter the room. However, the door just so happened to be old as it let out a huge creak. I glance up to find everyone staring at me, even the teacher.

“Sorry!” I squeak.

I immediately get a seat in the back and place my books on my desk. Plopping down on my seat, my bag slips down my shoulder and lands on the ground.

“You’re late Y/N” I jump, straightening myself at the sound of the teachers voice.

“I’m sorry, it won’t happen again, I promise.”

The next 2 hours went as normal, we learned how to identify certain notes and when to rest our hands. Did I mention that I’m taking a piano class? To be honest, I never wanted anything to do with music actually. But there’s this really cute guy that I know who plays piano. His name is Huening Kai and he is, what they call, gifted. His skills are a blessing from the heavens!

“Hello? Earth to Y/N? Class is over.”

I snap out of my daydream to find my friend, Taehyun, waving his hand in front of my face. I slap it out of the way and start gathering my things.

“Daydreaming about-“

“Hush!” I slap him again and he lets out a chuckle.

After successfully putting everything into my bag, I swing it on my shoulder. I go to leave but a hand stops me.

“Teach wants to see you” Taehyun explains then proceeds to do a peace sign and leave. I let out a sigh and make my way over to the teachers desk.

“You wanted to see me?”

“Let’s be frank here,” they begin, “you aren’t doing the best in here. And I’m thinking of pairing you up with a tutor if you want to continue to be in this class. Hm?”

“Yes!” I say a bit to quickly. They clear their throat and call someone into the room. My eyes open wide when I hear who is tutoring me.

“Hello, I’m Huening Kai.”

“H-hi” I stutter out.

“You guys can use this room whenever you like, now if you excuse me, I must leave. Have a nice day, and I hope you don’t arrive late tomorrow Y/N” our music teacher states and leaves the room. My face grows red when they mentioned me being late again. It was just this once was all... Jeez.

“Um, are you free right now?” Huening Kai asks.

“Huh?”

“For me to tutor you?”

“Oh! Yeah!” We place our bags next to the piano bench and Huening Kai pulls out a random sheet of music to play. He places it on the piano, sits down, and pats the spot next to him. I waddle on over and sit down.

“Okay, first things first, show me what you can do” he suggests. I nod and slightly cringe at the song he choose. I proceed to lay my fingers on the keys, but they don’t move. I squint my eyes as I try to read the first note. Although I guess it took longer than I thought because a noise broke my concentration. I blink my eyes before realizing that it wasn’t me who pressed down on the piano key.

I glance over to see that Huening Kai had pressed a note. I catch his eye and make an ‘o’ shape with my mouth, but quickly close it.

“Psh, I knew that” I say confidently. I mirror what he had done and start playing the piano. And to describe how well I played could be shown at how strained of a smile Huening Kai had on his face.

“I know, I’m a bit rusty” I shy away and remove my hands from the piano.

“Don’t worry! I’m here to help you, aren’t I?” He pats me on the shoulder, “Just watch how I do it now.”

He straightens his back and lays his fingers on the keys. Once he presses down on the first note, it felt like I had gone to heaven. I couldn’t help but close my eyes and listen to him play. It was until he stopped playing that I re-open my eyes. Realizing that I didn’t, in fact, ‘watch his movements’ made me slightly panic, but he starts laughing.

“Why are laughing?” I question.

“Oh nothing,” he smiles, “despite your skills, you seem to get the rhythm part down. You were swaying back and forth.”

“Oh-“ my face gets warms, “um, thanks? I guess...”

Suddenly the late bell rings throughout the room and we both glance at each other.

“Same time tomorrow?”

“Are you sure you want to continue to tutor me?”

“Yep.”

“Okay then, thanks, a lot really.”

“No problem!”

I was staring at my wrist, more specifically, at the ink that was embedded into my skin. It was a rabbit and (your symbol). It made me ponder as to who was my soulmate.

“Y/N? Are you even listening to me?” a voice breaks me from my thoughts. I quickly pull my sleeve down and look at up.

“Sorry Beomgyu” I apologize.

“Hmmm.... You were staring at your tattoo again, weren’t you?” he questions. I silently nod my head.

“Yeah, I wish I could find them. I mean, you already found yours. So I feel left out.”

“You’ll get the meet them one day,” Beomgyu smiles, “Anyways, lets head over to the library café. I’m hungry and you, missy, need to study for your upcoming exam.”

“Ughhh, I know, you’re not my dad” I groan while swinging my bag on my shoulder and reluctantly follow after him.

Once we arrived and seated ourselves near a window, Beomgyu asks for a waiter. I hear footsteps come closer and open my mouth to order a drink. I glance up and my eyes open wide.

“Y/N, close your mouth, you’re going to catch flies” Beomgyu exclaims.

“Huh? Wha-?” I fade back into reality as I hear someone clear their throat.

“What would you like to have today?” a smooth voice coming from the man standing next to our table asks.

“I’ll have a Chestnut Praline Latte” Beomgyu says without hesitation. I watch the man, whom was called Soobin from his name tag on his chest, write down Beomgyu’s order on his notepad.

“And for you Miss?”

“Huh?” I blink, “Oh! I’ll just have a Caramel Iced Coffee with cream and sugar please.”

“Is that all?” he asks and we both nod, “Your drinks will be out in a few.”

I watch him walk away from our table and over to the drink machines. I sense eyes on me and turn my head to see Beomgyu grinning at me.

“What?” I raise an eyebrow.

“Does someone have a crush?”

“W-What? Pfft, No! And besides, I doubt that he just so happens to have the same tattoo as me, he probably has a soulmate already.” I let out a huff and pull out my textbooks.

“Who knows, maybe he is” Beomgyu remarks.

It wasn’t but about 10 minutes later when our drinks were ready. Soobin returns to our table and hands me my drink first and I thank him. It was when he handed over Beomgyu’s drink that I noticed something black on his wrist. I took a sip of my drink and squinted my eyes. Realizing what it was, I start to choke on my drink.

“Y/N! Are you okay?” Beomgyu asks.

“Yeah, it just went down the wrong pipe is all” I cough. Soobin nods his head and excuses himself.

“Alright, spill it Y/N” Beomgyu retorts.

“I swear I shouldn’t have said that earlier,” I grumble, “stupid me.”

Beomgyu tilts his head in confusion before catching onto what I was saying. He lets out a laugh and I send him a glare.

“It’s not funny!” I groan.

“This is perfect Y/N! You’ve found him! Now you just gotta ask him out” he wipes an imaginary tear from his eye.

“What? No! I can’t do that!” I exclaim, “that’s too embarrassing.”

“Y/N, you’re soulmates, it isn’t going to be embarrassing,” he states seriously, “when he comes back with the check, you can say something then.”

“Fine” I sigh.

It was roughly an hour later and it was starting to grow dark out. I began packing my books away when Soobin walks over with the check. Beomgyu reminds me of what I have to do and I silently groan.

“Here’s the check,” Soobin places the paper on the table, “I hope you guys have a nice day.”

He turns to leave when I open my mouth, “Wait!”

Oops, I said that way too loud cause now everyone was looking at me. Soobin turns around and comes back to the table, “Yes?”

“Oh... Um... You see...” I stumble on my words.

“Y/N is your soulmate, enough said. I’ll take my leave. Oh and Soobin, was it? Can you walk Y/N home? It’s getting dark out” Beomgyu states and exits out the front door. My face has got to be bright red right now as I glare at Beomgyu on his way out.

“Is it true?” I jump at the question and turn my head back to Soobin. I shyly nod my head and pull up my sleeve. He glances down and lets out a gasp when he sees the tattoo. I watch as he pushes up his own sleeve and place his wrist next to mine. They were identical, not a single detail out of place.

He stops staring at our wrists and looks at me. We lock eyes and it felt like the world had stopped. I could hear the sound of my heart pounding in my chest. It wasn’t until the sound of cheering that broke our trance. I blink and look around to see everyone clapping. They shouting things like, “D’awww that’s so beautiful” and “I remind when I found my soulmate.”

“Soobin,” a lady announces, causing him to turn around, “you can leave early. I hope you too have a wonderful night!”

“Thank you” Soobin bows to her and turns back towards me, “I just have to grab my things and I’ll be right out, okay?”

I only nod my head because I knew that if I said something it would come out as a squeak. Soobin disappears into the employee room and I return to collecting my own things. I zip my bag and swing it onto my shoulder. Collecting my empty cup, I notice that Beomgyu had already thrown his away and the check was gone. I felt my bag vibrate and open it to pull out my phone.

Taehyun

I paid for our drinks before I left.

If that dude does anything let me know and I’ll have my way with him. Even though he looks older than me...

Still, I’ll make him pay.

Anyways, have fun and be safe!

I let out a chuckle and reply to him with a “Okay dad”. I place my phone back into my bag and feel it vibrate again. Though I don’t take it out again because I see Soobin make his way over to me.

“Are you ready?” he asks. He seemed almost nervous and was twiddling with the zipper of his jacket.

“Yup!” I smile and readjust my bag. We walk towards the front and he opens the door for me.

We get about half to my house and we had yet to talk to one another. It wasn’t a bad thing, it was a comfortable silence. But someone had to break it and I guess that was me.

“So a rabbit huh?” I look at the tattoo again. He gets slightly startled by my voice before smiling.

“Yeah, I knew mine was the rabbit because I could just feel it, ya know? And besides my friends kinda call me a rabbit sometimes. Though yours is beautiful as well.”

“Mhm,” I hum, “I felt the same thing with (your symbol). They’re kinda cute together.”

“You’re kinda cute,” Soobin blurts out, “Wait, shoot... I’m-“

Before he could say anything, I burst out laughing. His face gets red and he rubs the back of his neck. I stop laughing and smile. I turn my head and see that we had made it to my house. My smile slightly fades away when I realize this has come to an end.

“You okay?” Soobin questions. I shake my head and look up at him.

“This is my stop,” I point to the house, “thank you for walking me home.”

“No problem!” he smiles, “Do you think I can get your number?”

I nod and dig in my bag for my phone. I find it and unlock it. I let out a brief chuckle when I read Taehyun’s message from earlier. I open a new message and hand Soobin my phone. I patiently wait as he types away before handing it back to me. I hear a ding from his pocket and he pulls it out.

I look down at my phone and see that he set his name as “🐰Soulmate🐰” and he messaged himself, “My beautiful soulmate”. My face gets warm reading what he sent. I glance back up at him and he was looking at me while having his hands in his pockets.

“I’m guessing good night then?” Soobin says and I nod. I stand on my tiptoes to give him a peck on the cheek and rush over to my front door. I spin around to laugh had his blushing face.

“Good night my bunny!” I wave at him. He stops blushing and waves back to me. I unlock my door and walk in when I feel my phone vibrate. I glance down and see that I had a new text message.

Good night!

We should hang out sometime tomorrow.

Umm...

I’ll let you sleep now.

A big smile grows on my face and I reply with a yes. I hit send and hold my phone to my face. I let out a happy sigh and make my way to my room.

Summary: You’re at your sibling’s birthday party, of whom is very much into magic, when you notice that your parents had hired a handsome Magician. And when he drops one of his cards, you decide to take advantage of the scenario.

I was standing at the food table munching on some chips when my mother announces for everyone to come outside. I let out a sigh and open the sliding door, the hot air hitting my face. I mentally curse that it just had to be the summer time as I squint my eyes due to the bright sun.

I make my way over to the crowd of adults and sitting children. I stand next to my mother, folding my arms across my chest. I feel a presence behind me and, from the corner of my eye, watch as a young man walks in front. He was wearing the stereotypical magician outfit; a black hat, black cape, and white gloves.

But I wasn’t prepared for what happened next. When he looked up at everyone, I almost choked on nothing.

“Are you alright dear?” my mother asks.

“Y-Yeah” I cough into my arm. Jeez he’s hot...

“Greetings everyone! My name is Kang Taehyun and it is an honor to be here today! I heard it’s a special someone’s birthday, who might that be?”

Even his voice is hot...

“Oo! Oo! Me!” My sibling raises their hand. They are wearing a magician costume as well.

“Oho~ I see that you’re a magician too. Would you like to be my first volunteer?” My sibling nods their head very fast and jumps up from the ground to stand next to him.

I lightly chuckle at their eagerness when I catch something in my peripheral vision. I glance down to see a card on the ground. I bend down and pick it up.

It was a seven of clubs. I’m guessing he must have dropped it when he was walking by. I place it into my pocket and realize that everything went quiet. I look forward to see everyone looking at me.

“Y/N!” my sibling motions for me to come over.

“What?” I say confused.

“They really want you to be next” Taehyun explains.

“Please~” they give me the puppy dog eyes.

I think for a second before grinning. I can totally use this card to my advantage.

“Fine,” I say, “but I’ll only do it if you can do the guess my card trick.”

“Yay!” my sibling claps and returns to his spot on the ground. I make my way to the front and stand next to Taehyun. Oh wow, he’s even more handsome up close... Y/N! Snap out of it.

“Alrighty then,” he spoke, “pick a card, any card. And take a look at it and place it back anywhere in the deck.”

I do what he asks and watch as he shuffles the deck. I reach my hand into my pocket to make sure the card was still there.

“Is this your card?” he asks as he flips the top card over.

“Yes,” I nod, “but,

Is this your card?”

I pull out the card from my pocket and show everyone. I can tell he is stunned for a second before breaking out into a smile. All the children began clapping. I take a bow and give Taehyun back his card. I return to my spot with a grin on my face.

Later on, it was time for the party to end. I was picking up some empty cups and tossing them in the trash can. I turn around and almost bump into something, or someone.

“Woah, sorry” a voice apologizes. I look up to see Taehyun no longer wearing the magician outfit.

“Oh hey,” I say, “didn’t know you stuck around. I thought you’d left by now.”

“I could have but I wanted to ask you something.”

“Which is?”

“How’d you do that earlier? With the card?”

I calm my beating heart down. Of course that’s what he meant when he had to ask me something. Why was I thinking it was something else.

“A magician never reveals their secrets,” I smirk at him, “carry on now~”

“No means no Yeonjun!”

“...”

“Don’t you pout at me! You know I can’t handle it.”

“Y/N~”

“...Fine, get over here.”

Before you ask, let me just take it back to a couple of minutes ago. I was doing some work on my laptop, minding my own business when my furry friend here decided to drop by. I had already told him that I was busy, but I guess he didn’t get the memo. He plopped himself next to me on my couch.

But, Y/N, get to the part where Yeonjun is pouting already! To that I say, calm yourself, I was just getting there. So, he came over anyway. I paid no mind to him at first, that is until he started complaining that he was bored.

“If you’re that bored, why did you come over here knowing that I’m doing work?”

“Can you run your fingers through my hair?” He blurts out of the blue. I stopped typing for a second before letting out a sigh.

“I’m busy,” I tell him one more time. And this brings us to earlier, I couldn’t resist his pouting and gave in.

I place one of my hands on his head and he instantly starts to purr. I softly chuckle and turn my attention back to my laptop. With one hand using the laptop and the other in Yeonjun’s hair, I smile to myself.

But before I knew it, my laptop was no longer in my lap. Instead, it was replaced with a pouting cat hybrid. He had placed my laptop on the coffee table and laid his head on my lap. I blink, trying to process what just happened, and remove my hand from his head.

“You’re extra needy today, what’s wrong?” I look down at him.

“Why’d you stop?”

“Don’t ignore me, tell me what’s going on.”

He huffs out a sigh, his ears going flat against his head. I place my hands to my side as I patiently wait for him to speak again. He mumbles something and I ask him to say it again cause I didn’t hear him.

“Soobin told me you like Taehyun...”

“What?” I almost choke on air, “I do not! Taehyun and I are just friends.”

My sudden response caused him to jump. He removes himself from my lap and sits up. His ears stood alert and his tail was swaying. Though he calmed himself down after a minute.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you” I apologize.

“It’s okay,” he smiles, “I’m glad.”

“Huh?” I watch his eyes widen in shock and his face begins to blush, “Anyways, I should get back to my paper.”

I reach forward to grab a hold of my laptop when an arm stops me. Well, more like a body stops me. Yeonjun had me trapped in his arms and proceeds to spin me onto his lap.

And so, there I was, now sitting on his lap, facing him. He presses his face into my neck and I can feel his ears twitch.

“Y-Yeonjun? Wh-What are you doing?” I stutter, trying to get my arms free, and he mumbles something again, “You gotta speak up bub.”

He loosens his grip and pulls back from me. I stare at him confused. He wouldn’t meet eyes with me, so I tilt his chin up.

“Can you tell me what you said?” I ask softly.

“I don’t wanna be just friends.”

I remove my hand as my mouth opens in shock. Did I just hear him correctly? Did he not want to be friends anymore? What else could he mean?

He senses my confusion and speaks again, “I don’t mean as in not being friends anymore. It’s just... how do I put this... I like you okay? When I heard that you like Taehyun, I was devastated. But now that I heard your side of the story, I felt relieved that you only like him as a friend. Which also made me realize that you might only think of me as a friend. And I wanted to get it out there and say that I like you. It’s okay if you don’t like me back.”

“Uhh...” I was awestruck at his confession. His ears go flat and he looks down again.

“Oh, alright...” he sets me to the side and hands me my laptop, “I’ll stop bothering you now.”

I finally come to my senses and place the laptop on the coffee table once again. I quickly get up and catch his arm before he heads out the door.

“Wait!” I shout, “I like you too!”

We both stand there, frozen, my grip on his arm and his hand on the doorknob. His tail flicks to the side as his ears twitch. He releases his grip from the handle and pulls me into his chest. I wrap my arms around him and feel his chest rumble as he begins to purr.

“Come on, let’s return to the couch” I pat his back.

“Are you going back to typing?” he pouts when we break from the hug.

“Did you want me to? Cause if you wanted to cuddle instead, then...” I trail off as I make my way back to the couch.

Arms snake around my waist as a smile appears on my face. I turn around and we both lay down on the couch. I feel myself get brave, and so I look up at him. I press a kiss on his cheek and lay my head against his chest. His purring only increased as we enjoyed each other’s presence.
