Y'all, the world is sleeping on what NASA just pulled off with Voyager 1
The probe has been sending gibberish science data back to Earth, and scientists feared it was just the probe finally dying. You know, after working for 50 GODDAMN YEARS and LEAVING THE GODDAMN SOLAR SYSTEM and STILL CHURNING OUT GODDAMN DATA.
So they analyzed the gibberish and realized that in it was a total readout of EVERYTHING ON THE PROBE. Data, the programming, hardware specs and status, everything. They realized that one of the chips was malfunctioning.
So what do you do when your probe is 22 Billion km away and needs a fix? Why, you just REPROGRAM THAT ENTIRE GODDAMN THING. Told it to avoid the bad chip, store the data elsewhere.
Sent the new code on April 18th. Got a response on April 20th - yeah, it's so far away that it took that long just to transmit.
And the probe is working again.
From a programmer's perspective, that may be the most fucking impressive thing I have ever heard.

in unfamiliar conversations i function in much the same way as a generative ai text tool. in that. i can't process new information and i don't understand what's going on but i will on pure instinct just respond in whatever way is expected of me, completely regardless of what i would think of the information presented if i had access to it.
#number one most useful thing about learning im autistic is learning about this and that its a Thing and how to deal with it#mostly just by slowing the conversation down to an absolute crawl by asking repetitive questions until things start to make sense#& also knowing i can almost always call back after a phonecall has ended to be like ''WAIT I CHANGED MY MIND''

aside from two or three Meaningful Symbols on my chest i think i would like some kind of Lines to connect them together, like. idk. just. lines, you know? swirlies or whatever? like divider lines. but. for the purpose of tying the two or three separate symbols together into one cohesive thing
yes this is the type of thing u should plan before getting any of it done but doing things the best way is simply not my style.
#its also the type of thing you just ask a tattoo artist to design before you pay them to do it on your skin#but. and i tried and failed to explain this to someone last night too#i am never in my life going to contact a tattoo artist unless im already 100% sure that i will go through with whatever they give me#which requires the design to be finalized and fully formed before i even reach out to them#the person i talked to about this was like ''oh i was sitting with the tattoo artist for like an hour fixing little things about the design!#that's cool im glad you're able to be normal about this. i'm not. i am way too easily swayed by guilt and social expectations#and i will NOT take that risk.
