no offense but i need everyone to stop saying that “we survived” bad presidents before. like, i get it, the country has weathered people like andrew jackson and ronald reagan and will probably weather trump. but when you say “we survived” andrew jackson? tell that to the 4000 (of 16000) cherokee who died on the trail of tears. “we survived” ronald reagan? tell that to the 650,000 americans who have died of aids– a national health crisis which reagan refused to even recognize?
you know who “survived” presidents like trump? people who never had to be afraid of them in the first place.

you know seeing liberal feminists (especially white libfems) react poorly to jameela jamil’s critiques of the kardashian-jenners has taught me something important about liberal feminists
when they accuse jameela jamil of “slut shaming” the kardashians (even though she never mentioned anything about their sex lives), or when they get offended at marxist and materialist feminists critiquing the makeup/skincare/beauty industries & attendant lib fem weaponization of beauty products, what they’re thinking is that we’re calling these rich, usually white women “dumb” or “shallow” or “vapid”. they’re thinking that we’re being elitist.
to a certain extent i have my own criticisms of how many white & cis marx/mat feminists can be inaccessible and downright racist and rude, and end up projecting their own brand of narcissism in a way similar to white libfems. but normally marx/mat fems aren’t evaluating the personalities of these rich women or making a value judgment, which is the critical thing libfems miss in this analysis.
more to the point - the “choice feminism” promotion involves not really thinking that women are all free agents whose choices are inherently feminist, but instead it’s about believing that women are infallible victims and that if we criticize women in positions of power, we’re calling them unintelligent.
see, when a libfem sees jameela jamil or any other feminist criticize rich and powerful women like the kardashians, they perceive the kardashians as “innocent victims who are just trying to go about their day and if that involves marketing beauty as empowering or objectification of women as feminist then who are we to judge them for it”?
but in a way this is what reifies their own perception of the kardashians et. al as non-autonomous or as shallow. what they don’t realize is that the kardashians et. al are very wealthy women who represent the class of bourgeoise women who collude with men to maintain patriarchy. the kardashians are not stupid. far from it. they may display themselves as vapid and shallow to promote their own brand but at the end of the day they want to maintain their wealth and they know exactly how to do it, how to manipulate young women and teenage girls, how to keep their brand fresh and provocative.
they don’t need anyone’s defense. they know fully how to exploit liberal feminism, how to exploit men’s weaponization of liberal feminism and sex positivity, how to use these things for their own gain.
and that’s why jameela jamil said that the kardashians et. al are motivated by greed. she didn’t say it’s because they’re “bad feminists” or “stupid and shallow” - it’s because they’re wealthy women who want to amass even more wealth! you can see here that class analysis is fundamental to feminism because without it, you get liberal feminism or radical feminism, two seemingly opposed ideological poles that both reify the definition of “woman” as “inherently above criticism/frail and passive victims with no agency” and thus get upset when a feminist (especially a feminist of color) criticizes wealthy women (especially white women). (and yes, rad fems are like this too - i’ve seen plenty of rad fems get pissed off at women of color hating on bland white female celebrities).
