a hc about shifter!paul that i thought up earlier:

in a situation where he’s learned to maintain a single stable form, he still has that connection to those multiple other versions of himself. he’s briefly described in zero state as speaking with multiple or ‘glitched’ voices when he tries to take the countermeasure from jack.

there’s also a lot of scenes in the book that focus on the shifters communicating by howling or screaming. paul says he can hear the noise in his head when he sees them, and the one referred to as shining palm is able to intimidate a group of other shifters by screaming.

i like the idea that paul’s existing powers develop more as he grows used to this state of being, and to learning to exist in one place and time (i think of jack as being his anchor, in that way). even in ways that aren’t expected by or shared with anyone else, to kind of parallel jack discovering new powers through emotion.

as for what this ability is…

the simplified version is that it’s a sonic scream.

the not-simplified version is that paul taps into those multiple voices and then emits a specific pitch with them, which amplifies the distortion field he already gives off and then pushes it in a direction. this violently disrupts matter in the field’s path, and it can even hurt other shifters.

paul himself doesn’t feel any negative effects, but it is draining to use, and when asked to listen back to a recording of the pitch, he claimed to have heard the voices speaking to him in individual whispers or shouts. this effect was not present when anyone else listened to the recording, nor did he mention it during the recording itself.

Yet another random question for the Remedy nation:

Which two characters would you like to see meeting/interacting in Remedyverse? (Regardless of the game either of them originally appears in).

I would like to be a fly in the ceiling to witness a direct conversation between Door and Ahti. I know Ahti mentions Door to Alan in passing, but these two never interact directly on screen. And I want to see it.

Either that, or Ahti and Scratch.

I feel someone would get smacked with a wet mop in that scenario but that's just a bonus.
