Football Shirts (Rhythms)
Football shirts are generally designed for footballers to identify which team they play for and the position they play in their teams. They are all unique in style and fashion with a lot of graphic design involved in their production. Team logos for instance, is an example of one of these very important design which differ from one team to another with symbols and colours representing each team. Printing allowed shirts to be made in lighter synthetic fibres with a range of colourful and fashionable design. Football being one of the world’s most popular game also serve as an agent of advertisement for a lot of businesses with their brands printed on the kits. Replica shirts were made available to fans which is now a fashion especially among the younger generation taking pride in the team they support.

Western Genre (Identity)
Western movies are my favourite movies base on their fantastic story lines, the styles of the characters, and their setting. Most of their stories are set in the latter half of 19th century in the American old west. I like their story lines which often portray the life of a nomadic cowboy with their guns and riding horses. The dress code of the characters are fantastic with vest, spurs, and high boots. The characters are usually Bandits, lawmen, bounty hunters, outlaws and gamblers. The settings are usually ranches, small frontier towns and saloon which I take many inspirations from as an artist.

The Famous Red Box (Legacy)
Sir Giles Gilbert Scott’s magnificent design of the red K2 cast iron telephone kiosk is one of the great designs which do not only serve the purpose of communication but an added beauty to our streets. It’s bright red colour attracts you where ever you might be in our villages, towns and cities. It is truly a British cultural icon through out the world. It is a shame that its production stopped in 1985 and only to be replaced by the Kx series but the Red phones box still seem to hold its value through out the country as you can still see them in many towns and cities. They are a hot spot for selfie taking by many visitors especially in London.

Street Clinics (Identity)
Any time I walk through certain streets in my town, I tend to stumble across these clinical instruments on the floor scattered all over the place. It comes to a point that I am more wary of my foot steps any where that I go now scared of the fact that I may accidentally be injected with a needle and catching diseases from them. I hate injections since childhood, and I would rather use oral medication when ill than taking injections. Actually, this sort of environment in our street corners might look meaningless or irresponsible to us but there is a hidden community whose lifestyle is highly related to this in our street corners and alleyways.

Furniture (Legacy)
Archaeological research shows that people began constructing and carving furniture from around 30,000 years ago using wood, stone and animal bones. These objects have been used in our homes to hold objects at a convenient height for work or to store things . They also serve a symbolic or religious purpose and are closely linked to our livelihood. They come in various materials such as wood, plastic and metal but wood is mostly used. Furniture can be seen in every household and it seems the nature of human anatomy requires such a valuable product to live comfortably. Could you imagine a world without chairs to sit on, beds or tables? Am sure we can survive without them but not as comfortable as we are with them.

Clocks (Legacy)
Clocks are one of the oldest human inventions which continue playing a significant role in our lives. They have been  in existence for thousands of years dating back to 2000 BC from the Sumerians. They serve the purpose of time keeping which is a very important part of our life. Today clocks appear in all forms ranging from analogue to digital clocks displaying time with numeric representation of time. There are even speaking clocks that states time audibly in words (mostly used by the blind). The most common clocks in our household today are wall clocks, grandfather, and cuckoo clocks.

Record Covers (Identity, Legacy)
Above is one of the old record covers I found in my father’s music archive a while ago, and I play the record up till date. The vinyl record is one of his  favourite orchestra band ‘Baobab Band’ from Senegal (west African). Their music is so brilliant and I ended up being one of their fans too. But to start with, it was not only about their music that I like but the way their record cover was attractively designed. It’s vibrant colours, image and fonts were cleverly chosen and placed to attract people. Lithography printing at its best like other famous art works produced inform of posters will never fade. Their design is usually simple but very captivating. The transition of such printing techniques still prevail in our printing industries.

Vintage Cars (Legacy)
With all these flashy and sophisticated cars being produced and driven around recently, my love for vintage cars still stands. Knowing the fact that certain engineering techniques improved due to good reasons, but I still admire the design of old cars compared to the modern cars. There is something stunning about them. Perhaps the quirkiness of the overall design and the detailing of the part especially the lamps and the wheel covers. According to history, Vintage era in the automotive industry was a time of transition. They were cars produced between 1919 to 1930 and are very rare in the market today. From that era, most industrialized countries built nationwide road systems and cars became more practical, and more comfortable to drive. Car heating was introduced progressing from hot bricks connected to exhaust manifold to the heater radiator. Car radios, and four-wheel braking from a common foot pedal was also introduced and also the introduction of hydraulic brakes. All these technological development are part of the legacy of car manufacturing.

Northampton (The home of fine English shoes) - Legacy
Working past this amazing piece of art in Northampton one day reminded me of the town’s important history of shoe making dating back to 15th century when decrees regulated prices for Cordwainers (a medieval name for shoemakers) attracting a lot of people to the town due to it’s famous tanning industry. This town was suitable for shoe making due to the famous cattle market situated in the town and it’s perfect geographical location for the distribution of products as it is located in the heart of England. The above piece of art can be related to the legacy of this great town (Northampton) which was and still known for shoe making with factories like Churches and Crockett and Jones still in existence.

Butterflies (Rhythms)
There is something unique about insects but butterflies are exceptional. Their vibrant colours and patterns on their wings are unimaginable. The way they flutter is like a human imitation of disco lights with colourful lights flashing in our eyes. Their wings are naturally decorated as peace of canvas professionally painted by an artist. Sometimes I do think butterfly wings are the legacy of canvas painting.

The beauty of nature (Rhythms)
Is there any artist or art lover who hates nature? Probably not because I have never come across one yet. Is it not amazing observing how all these trees appear differently to each other? The difference in their shape, size, and colour, or even their leaves and not mentioning the curved, spiral or bent branches they bore. I Do not know how other people feel but nature is more than inspiring. It is a shame how we keep abusing nature instead of improving it by planting more trees.

DADA (Legacy)
This great art movement after the first world war inspire me so much as an artist. Not only it’s rejection of modern capitalist society or anti-bourgeois but it’s style. It might might look meaningless to some people but it’s free principles of design makes it unique. Dada artist use trash to make a statement and these were very powerful after the war. It reminds me of some world war posters, but the messages they transmit are very strong and totally anti-war. Clearly it’s abstract or collage nature relates to most of my collage work, and they are a legacy of most of the art work we see today.

The power of Architecture (Legacy)
My love for beautiful buildings is so huge. It might be the reason why I enjoy travelling to different towns and cities. These man-made structures keep amusing me everywhere I go and they appear in all shapes and fashion. Sometimes I wonder how they are erected considering how huge some of them are and I do wonder the amount of man power used especially those built centuries ago without modern technology. Not only that but there is something special about certain buildings if you carefully look at their physical features. The columns and the detailing round the doors and the windows. They are basically a giant piece of art that we pass by daily without taking much notice unless we stop and look at them carefully. I am one of the people who admire this form of art as it inspire me immensely and I hope it does to many people.

Interpreting gossips to a work of art ( The Other)
Tumblr media
People get inspired in so many different ways. some from other people’s work or something done by someone known to them. It sounds strange, but anytime that am out for a walk things that I heard or see inspire me to create a work of art. My inspiration as an artist can simply come from conversations I overheard from people. My most recent painting was produced as a result of a gossip I have overheard from two women talking about a man dropping his rubbish in the street very close to a bin instead of putting it in the bin next to him. Their gossip was so interesting that it prompted me to create a poster about litter dumping which attracted a huge public attention. This is just a manifestation of how simple actions can inspire artists to create a work of art. Am sure most song writers use similar triggers to write songs too .

Illusion ( Ideologies)
As a massive football lover. Out of curiosity, I paused my Television to capture an interesting scene during a very intense football game and by doing so, the reflection of light on the screen created an image which looks like a ball behind the referee. I am so proud of this image that I saved it on my phone and am planning to print it as a poster to be displayed in my room. I would relate illusion to ideologies which is one of the six triggers that I came across with.

City Life (Rhythms)
I do like small towns but going to big cities is very exciting. when ever I go to big cities it is like going to the cinema as I keep seeing a lot of interesting scenes including the road traffic, food vendors, street entertainment and people going on with their daily life. The buildings covered in various patterns and colours are an additional excitement to me, and they inspire me immensely as an artist.

Politic (Conflict)
Political banners and posters can be very interesting. Quite often they carry very significant information but the one between Trump and Hilary Clinton during their political campaign were exceptional due to their strong rivalry. This one above is a good example of one of them outlining some of their fights in social media.
