not to get too deep on main but did anyone else have such deeply rooted issues with their self worth for so long that they thought as a kid/teen that their only redeeming feature was being “low maintenance” and now as an adult you give yourself guilt pangs asking for any more than the barest minimum in virtually any relationship because asking for things might negate your only good quality which is just “doesn’t ask for things”

Cw: Angst, death, idk at this point Ghost knows he's muzzled dog. Everyone likes dogs, and logically he knows there are no bad dogs, only bad owners.
But dogs who are muzzled are always avoided. An at that, he can't help but think maybe he is a bad dog.
Only letting few into the messy chaos of his mind, and even then he would take what was given and bite the hand from which he is fed. Scared that in a moments notice it will all be taken away like his mother was. Like Tommy was.
Soap didn't try and change anything about Ghost. Didn't try to take off the muzzle Ghost has placed on himself. To Ghost, he did something more surprising.
He stayed.
Through the harsh comments, glares, and bad jokes, Soap stayed by his side. Showing no matter how hard Ghost pushes away, Soap will always come back to him like a magnet. Stripping him bare piece by piece just by staying. Coaxing what little was left of Simon, taking off his muzzle.
Simon doesn't know when he fell in love with Johnny. Doesn't know if it was an accident or if it was fate. The realization hit him hard while lying in bed awake, avoiding sleep like the plague because of nightmares. And for fuck he wasn't about to confess like a lovesick fool, potentially ruining things between them.
He wishes that he did.
No longer are the days of their playful bickering. Teasing Johnny for his Scottish accent or jokes, now he can only think of Johnny's cold body laying lifeless. Never getting the chance to say a joke to make it all a little better.
When Johnny died, Ghost mourned the friend that he'd lost. What they were and what they could've been together. The sense never felt the same since they scattered Johnny's ashes.
When Johnny died, they no longer fit together. Flipping to the afterlife, the two now repelled, because things that are alike don't attract. And Johnny took what was left of Simon with him when he passed.
Once again the muzzle is put on for Ghost to bare, colder and heavier then it was before. He taints the good in this life. Maybe he is a bad dog after all.

Least favorite form of political action is those 1 day boycotts. "Everybody don't buy anything for 1 day!" Like cool wtf is that gonna do? You do know what a boycott is, right? You do it until a change is made. Black folks in Montgomery didn't ride the bus for over a year until segregated seating was lifted. For most of them, that was the only transportation they could afford. It was difficult! That's the point! How do you expect things to change permanently if you don't permanently change! Please!

the opposite of that "orc can't read ulysses" is an elf who smugly delivers a lecture misinterpreting the Very Hungry Caterpillar
