Short summary of the history. Fanfic.net mainly but many fanfiction sites were purging fics and censoring content. Group of people decided to create an archive with a thorough tagging system that upholds anti-censorship and fandom etiquette (proshipper ideals). They created AO3 for that purpose. Which is why it’s in their literal GUIDLINES that they DO NOT delete fics based on ‘this is icky fiction’ reports. They literally had to make an article recently going over these things BECAUSE of you idiots.

It really bugs me the way that people freak out over things in films and books and games being "clearly the creator's fetish". Like, yeah, obviously it is, and that's fun and good. Tarantino's foot fetish adds color to his work.

For me, when stuff in a story is clearly the director's fetish, I get excited because it's a clear sign it's not going to be wildly sanitized puritan fiction. Not to mention that sex is fun and good and I like seeing it in stories.

Fiction is better when it's at least a little bit weird and freaky.

Because I was feeling naughty, I want to talk about a couple of things connected to Nina's business with Ciel. First, this episode:

OK, we, the audience, know exactly what's happening here. Sebastian makes sure no one sees the branding scar. But what are other characters supposed to think about the Earl's weird behavior? Like, at this point we aren't sure whether Nina knows about the scar, or was the performance aimed strictly at Lizzy, but... Is there any normal explanation of "Ciel wants Sebastian to hold him while he's standing there naked and all?" I don't even have any comments about it rather than Lizzy probably is completely oblivious about homosexuality and this kinda relationship, so she actually condones Ciel and Sebastian's closeness.

Alright, here's the second thing I wanna discuss.

Now this happens when Sebastian needs to go undercover with Nina's team to investigate the blood harvesters... And Ciel's put him through a series of try-this-no-try-thats. That's probably Sebastian's first time going through something like this. And I want to talk about Ciel's remark here:

Like, I have ZERO other explanations apart from that in their free time, Sebastian likes to dress Ciel up just for fun and Ciel kinda... endures it and lets the demon indulge? But why? What reason does he have to suffer through something like that? Because Sebastian likes it? I mean, Yana, are you fucking serious right now?

Cuz I mean, if so, then yeah, we pretty much have got conformation that all of those posh clothes in those official pictures are partly this dress-up game which exists solely for Sebastian's enjoyment. Which Ciel doesn't have to provide yet he does anyway.

Oh, and this one, of course... In which Ciel isn't even properly dressed to undress him to begin with:

ok im going to #seriouspost for a second here. I don't think Harry Potter is a manifesto. I think it was a flawed passion project that millennials latched onto because of the fantasy of sticking it to their mean teachers and arbitrarily categorizing themselves (hogwarts houses; it's the thinking millennial's astrology). I think the fact that the series got popular when and how it did was very much a product of its time.

I don't think Harry Potter is the biggest symbol of JKR's bigotry. I think the most flagrant sign of that was how she responded to critics. I watched her become radicalized in real time. I watched how she doubled down on her racism when she was called out for the ways she promoted her tragically mid fantastic beasts movies. I watched her chase marginalized teenagers with a double digit follower count off of twitter for daring to criticize her thought process, and no one with any kind of power standing against her because she was the one who was paying them. This isn't to say Harry Potter is without flaws. This is to say she really didn't give a shit about that. Getting rich and powerful is a hell of a drug, and she had enough sycophants that she had no reason to care about what her critics were saying.

She was convinced that she was a martyr; a voice for the unheard; a leader for the ages, so of course her detractors were the bad guys. And I think we should take this to heart. We should see this as an example of how easy it is to get radicalized; if you think of yourself as a paragon of virtue, you are going to think that whatever you see as good and right is an objective fact. Most people don't know this, but the majority of terfs start out as trans allies. You are not immune to propaganda! You are not immune to falling into dangerous ideologies!!!

This is why the most important thing you can do as an activist is to listen. Do NOT think you're above being wrong; do NOT develop a god complex; do NOT form an identity out of being right all the time. Involve yourselves in the groups you claim to speak for. Listen to trans women; share resources that help trans women; familiarize yourself with the diversity of experiences that trans people have and the struggles they face.

No, none of you are as bad as JKR because you don't have her money or her power. You will likely never have the capacity for harm she does. But check yourselves. Do not affirm yourselves into thinking you always have the moral high ground. Watch yourselves; humble yourselves; check yourselves for signs of cult behavior and internalized prejudice. You are always learning. You will always be learning. Do not allow yourselves to get a power trip from brushing off marginalized voices.

Idk if I've shared this one before but I have this AU in my head where Ciel thinks Sebastian is dead so he kills himself, inevitably coming back as a grim reaper. A few years later there is commotion over some demon interrupting the grim reapers work and just generally causing havoc. Ciel goes to the scene only to realize that it's Sebastian, demanding to see Ciel and attacking everyone who gets in his way. Blah blah blah lovers to enemies to lovers blah blah blah.

If Ciel somehow lost Sebastian, how long would it take for him to stop expecting Sebastian to show up in those first disorienting moments when he wakes from a nightmare? How many meals until he stops thinking that this or that dish was better the way Sebastian made it? How many times will he turn to smirk at his butler and have no one to smirk back at him? How long until the negative feelings he had toward Sebastian, the fear and resentment and distrust, fade away and Ciel remembers him nostalgically as just his butler from a few strange years in his youth?
