Materiality
Unfortunately the box ended up having to be a matt print because the laminate couldn’t end up being done. Although this is disappointing, it has worked out ok because the pamphlet had to be matt too to print double sided A2. So those two match. Then, the contextual document and the business cards match in a more slick shinier way. And finally, the phone case, charger and markers all match in terms of material because they all have a shine. The good thing about this is that it means there is no fully odd object out that doesn't match a similar stock or material feel from another piece of collateral.
Further, this is a hybrid of different materials. Much like the project is a hybrid between two things - digital and physical, older generation and generation Z, collaborators and origin - the materiality matches this - a combination of matt and gloss - a hybrid of materials that work together in one cohesive project. And one that Im damn proud of and worked extremely hard on.

Contextual Document Cover
The majority of my collateral is predominantly the red/crimson colour. I knew that the contextual document is quite separate from the actual marketing on-boarding kit that I’ve created, so I wanted it to match the brand but also stand a little bit separate which is why I’ve done it with a yellow colour cover rather than the red. This works because it is more subtle when it is by itself, and it isn't the most important piece of information in terms of marketing the brand so it doesn't need to be as “loud” but instead more informative.
It has been printed on a nice gloss paper that matches the business cards and the inside of the contextual document. This makes it look modern, slick and professional. It would have matched the box but unfortunately that ended up being matt.

Inside Box Lid
The inside of the box lid has been the last thing that I have designed as it was the most important piece of copy in the whole project. The first insight into the brand that any viewer would get. It needs to not only explain who we are at origin but also aims to try and communicate the idea of the collaborator’s tool-kit all in a succinct way. The final output was going to be red but the colours weren’t matching as the box wrap was printed externally.
This meant I had to end up doing the inside of the box lid in yellow, but I actually really like it and I feel that it breaks up the red which there is already a lot of.

Clear book slip
For both the pamphlet and the contextual document I have used transparent paper to create two slips. These slips have rounded off edges which are a subtle hint towards the circular nature of the brand. Further they are stuck together with the use of some spare stickers I had. This again brings the brand into the outputs and materiality further. Not only this, but using the transparent paper has helped to add this aspect of glossy materials into some of the collateral.
Further, because the box is trying to create a sense of exploration and discovery - the ceremonious process of opening the box and taking out the different collateral is quite an experience in itself but I wanted to heighten that with these slips.
I created these using the creasing machine, as well as the circle edge trimmer all in the bindery. Just a nice little final touch for the project.

Binding Contextual Document
I wanted to add some of the tests that I did into my contextual document, so I have some insert pages of screen prints that I tested that didn't end up working. I think they are things that prove I got my hands dirty and tested many different techniques of printing etc. It looks good and makes sense as a workbook to contain these sort of inserts and rough workings to truly show the process.

Wrapping of the box
This is the design for the outer lid of the box. It is simple but I want it to draw people in and make them interested to go further into the project. This is what I was hoping to get laminated after being printed.
Unfortunately I got all the way out to the laminators for them to turn me around out the door. They said that they couldn’t do the soft touch laminate that the printers had said they would be able to do. They could only laminate it on both sides which would ve resulted in cracking and delaminating when being wrapped around the box.
The laminator said that there was a 20% chance of him being able to do the job and even then he would need 15 copies to get it right - I only had 4 copies and really no room for error. Unfortunately this has meant that I can’t achieve the nice silky gloss finish that I have been hoping for throughout the project.
Tumblr media
However, I have since wrapped the box and it looks really great just in the paper. The paper has been printed to a really high quality which has meant it hasn't cracked and shown up white like the majority of paper does when it is wrapped around a box of some sort.
Tumblr media
The process was quite rewarding. I definitely like binding my projects myself - always have throughout university and this project has been no different. Ive tested a huge range or printing techniques and paper stocks etc. The finished product looks great, and although it isn’t as glossy as I would have liked, the colour itself is enough to make it pop and draw attention. Further, this colour is loud and vibrant much like the generation Z members, so the fact that there is no gloss isn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Contextual Document
Ive decided to perfect bind the contextual document with a soft cover that I will bind and trim myself after it has been printed. This way it should retain the high-quality finish that I’ve wanted to achieve throughout.

Final Pamphlet
I ended up finding out that I can print double sided A2 on the level 7 printers in Cornelius’ room, but it is difficult and the process means that there is likely to be some marking on one of the sides. It also often means the ink will run.
Thats why Ive decided to go for a truly dimple design for the back of the pamphlet/poster. It would have been nice to create something more substantial but the printing technique would mean it woudlve got ruined.

Pamphlet
Some updates on the pamphlet: As George and Raul had said, I needed to use a better hierarchy in the pamphlet. Also, in the initial mockup I confined myself to the individual tiles when designing. George suggested that I could go across multiple tiles to change the hierarchy.
In this case the information gets less and bigger the deeper into the pamphlet that you unfold, as this will keep users engaged until the end rather than being really information heavy and causing them to stop reading after the first or second DPS.
Tumblr media
This goes across what was previously 8 tiles. Now looking like two big strips. I also changed the back DPS as it was the one that people would look at least when using the pamphlet. This meant that no important information should be there, which is why I’ve changed it to a short statement, that adds a little if you read it but doesn't mean you miss out if you don’t read it.
Tumblr media
I’ve also created a QR code to put on the back of the pamphlet to lead people to the website. This is where they can get some further information and contact details in a digital space extending the reach of the brand.
Tumblr media
This is a custom QR code that directly leads to the website.

Laser Cut Foam
I finally laser cut the foam and the result looks really clean and professional looking. I’m happy with how it came out, definitely sharper than the hand cutting I had done with a craft knife. This is what it looks like below just with one layer in it

Animation
I really wanted to create an animation that could be used on the home page of the website so that the brand could be seen in a moving way. This animation is strong because the brand was created to be seen as moving and works well when it is moving at a fast pace, similar to how the older generations view gen Z members.
I created the animation using after effects:
Tumblr media
The final animation actually ended up being too big. Given that I have a QR code on my pamphlet it means that most people will view the website by phone and the animation only worked well on desktop or laptop. Therefore I needed to optimise it for phones too. So now it is at a happy medium where it can be seen in full on a phone but also doesn't look too small on a desktop.
The final animation is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gi1JlQJeQOs

Website
I begun creating my simple website with a home page and an about page. This is a piece of collateral I want to have because it adds another dimension and can be used to show how the brand would work in a moveable, kinetic animated space.
I decided to Use Squarespace as I had been recommended by several UX/UI students who said I would be able to upload my animation as a home page on the website which is what I wanted.

Final Business Card
As I wasn’t able to create a UV spot gloss at the printers due to cost restraints. I decided to print it vibrantly and get a thin laminate sheen over it to match my box wrap.

Final Box Layout
I finally decided on my box layout and size that I will use for the final. I need to take the foam in to be laser cut tomorrow as cutting with a craft knife didn't work. The foam obviously needs to be trimmed at the top and on the right to match the size of the box.

Branding the Phone Case, Charger and Markers 2.0
After the screen prints weren’t really working, I decided to see if I could print on transparent paper on standard printers and use the same system where I would use adhesive spray on the back. The tricky thing here was trying to match colours. I got it close but it still looked dull. At this point this was the best way to do it. This is what it came out with. I changed the colour of each circle slightly to try and colour match it best so that I could then use the most accurate colour.
Tumblr media
I always knew that the easiest options for printing on to this collateral was either going to be a vinyl sticker or actual sticker paper. The issue was is that the screen printing room doesn’t have any vinyl the same colour as what I’m wanting and there are none available that they can get in either. In terms of the stickers, I only really needed one sheet but I could never find places that would sell individual sheets of sticker paper - only packs that started at $100.
Luckily I bumped into another student who explained that Gordon Harris actually sell sheets individually but keep them behind the counter so you just have to ask and you shall receive. This is what I have ended up using. It has given me by far the best result in terms of colour, shininess and general sticking ability.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m really happy with the end result from the sticker paper. Not only does it work well aesthetically and in terms of durability, but it is also on brand as a transparent sticker with a high gloss matches the materiality of the project.

Branding the Phone Case, Charger and Markers
I know that I want all of these branded using the same material and I have begun testing a few different ways.
The first way I have tried is to create screen’s and screen print the designs directly onto the surface of the collateral. This is risky as I can’t afford to test it and it fail as I don’t have backups of the markers, charger and phone case.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are the screens that I made up.
The first thing I decided to test on was duraseal - the stuff that children's workbooks are wrapped in. As soon as I tested this, it was clear that the screen printing paint didn’t like the surface. Even using a super coat paint and a more runny paint the duraseal didn't like being screen printed on.
The next thing I tried was to screen print onto transparent paper and then try and use adhesive spray to stick it to the collateral. This was better than the duraseal but unfortunately the paint still didn’t sit particularly well. The paint began to bubble and the other issue was colour matching accurately. Although I could get it close it never fully worked. Here are some of the results:

I also tested it on paper to try and colour match:

Final Tagline
Ive decided to create a system around the tagline that uses “your new...” along with a few of the key words that are used throughout the project. E.g. “your new collaborators” or “your new storytellers” or “generation”, “hybrid” or “origin”. That way I can use certain tagline’s on certain collateral that make more sense but all tie together that we are a new model agency and specify in an ambiguous way, what we do.
