Summary:
Overworked publishing executive Aziraphale has fallen into a bad habit of late night excess and ephemeral one night stands but this time, when he wakes in a stranger's bed, he doesn't get to sneak away.
Chapter Excerpt:
Aziraphale awakens knowing exactly where he is well before he opens his eyes. Even before he swims up through layers of veil-like dreams, he knows. That the bed is not his own is not particularly concerning. The pillows are lumpy, the sheets of some paltry thread count, but they feel cloud-like and luxuriant. The light, as his vision blinks into focus, is distributed, fragmented, and muted by the grill of metalwork and warp of the old, milky, industrial window glass. His eyes are drawn to the green foliage bursting, trailing, climbing – he imagines that, if he can hold perfectly still for long enough, he will be able to see them move, turning to follow the sun, reaching towards the light.

Okay, my moots know I'm a rabid fanatic about Good Omens fan fiction. What they don't know is that my love of Good Omens is infinitesimally less than my love for dogs. I even had a golden retriever on my boat. So here I go, blending streams. Hope nothing explodes. But I laughed out loud. I have to reblog. It's a rule.
I changed my mind.. Gimme this one 🐶🥰

Did you take my advice and watch the two videos of Alex Thomson's mast walk when you read chapter 4 - Scuttlebutt? Check out this behind the scenes footage that inspired Crowley's viral stunt aboard Hellish. If you want to know what went wrong for our favorite ginger sailor, you'll have to keep reading. Updates every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Read from the beginning on AO3.

💯 I won't unlock my fics. Don't want to feed AI or deal with the stress of stolen works (as a long time blogger I've been through it, and it's a nightmare). But I do feel some loss that things I've worked so hard on will not be read by more people. Not sure why people hesitate. But an AO3 account is the gift that keeps giving.
You should get an AO3 account
With the rise of AI and the well known epidemic of AI companies scraping Ao3 for training data most authors on Ao3 have locked down their fics to logged in users only. This is unfortunate for authors and readers. As an author I've noticed a steep drop in readership on fics restricted to logged in users and when recommending fics to my friends I've noticed that the folks without an account can't find the fics. The logged in users only toggle, not only keeps people without an account from reading a fic, but also from seeing its listing at all. More than 50% of fics I come across have this setting turned on. So, you should get an AO3 account. I know this seems daunting and unfair because it's an invite only system but, you can invite yourself through the homepage if you don't already have one, and in the past few years I've never heard of someone who requested an invitation through this method, not getting one. And for those of you who are hesitant because you don't write, that's okay. It's not weird at all to click on a commenter username and find that they have 0 works and 10,000 bookmarks. It might take a week for the invitation to actually show up, but I can almost guarantee you will get one, just keep an eye on your email. It's free to join and donations are optional. You'll have more to read if you have an account and maybe give your favorite author the chance to protect their work from AI without a loss of readership and feedback.

I wish more fan fic writers did this...
Chapter 4: Scuttlebutt
Summary:
Previously, Crowley and Aziraphale arrived at the North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort, North Carolina, for an interview and photoshoot for World Sailing magazine. Crowley's agent, Bea, informed him that his boss, Nik, expected him to savage his rival. In this chapter, Crowley and Aziraphale face a rude reporter determined to get the better of them. They have surprises in store--for him, and each other.
This is what I wrote for a summary section on AO3 in my human AU, Anchored. I can't take credit for the idea (although I expanded it). That goes to @missunderstoodlyrics and @searching4sarahtonin who employed it in the notes of their long-form fic, The Weight of Memory (E). At 12 chapters, this magical fic took a while to complete. And I was so grateful that the writers wrote these little "previously on..." snippets. It made keeping track of this complex story with romance, magic, and time travel much easier. And it was the first (and only) time I saw writers doing it.
I loved the idea so much that I swore that if I ever wrote a long fic (although, at the time, I thought that was highly unlikely), I'd do the same. And now I have. Maybe more people would read WIPs if they knew the writers would help bring them up to speed at the top of a new chapter. I understand the idea of a chapter summary as most people use them. But let's face it, ten chapters in, I already know to expect beautiful descriptions or witty banter from a writer I adore. But a little reminder of where the characters were just before? That means I can hop into the chapter that much faster.
[Disclaimer: I only read Good Omens fics. This may be common in other fandoms. But it's rare in the Good Omens universe.] What do you think? Readers? Writers? Would you find this helpful? Or do you like what most writers do now--a short description or snippet from the chapter? If you agree with me, reblog. Suggest other writers try something new that makes their work even easier for readers to engage with. But be kind. Remember, writers put a lot of time and effort into creating these wonderful stories for us. Thank them for sharing their creativity, give kudos, and comment plentifully. It means a lot for writers to know their lonely hobby nurtures a community of fans.

This was such a lovely story. Highly recommend it if you want a sweet story of magical kids to fill a hole in you heart.
The Serpent’s House // Epilogue
Two years later.
Aziraphale was standing on the dock when Crowley found him.
“Hi,” Crowley said. He slid his arms around Aziraphale’s waist and squeezed lightly. “Wool-gathering, angel?”
“Mm.”

This has been a marathon of a fic. It kept growing as I was writing, and I’ve loved writing it. I hope the ending is satisfying enough!

Ooooh, thank you so much for the rec. It's so kind of you to join my evil cabal trying to flood the fandom with sailing lore under the excuse of writing fan fic. ⛵️ But seriously, thank you. This means more than I could say to see my name in such great company. You even convinced me to add one to my "to read" list. BTW, Crowley and Aziraphale are delightful in Figuring It Out. But the amazingly adorable sleeper characters are Eric and Celestia. Funniest Eric I've ever read.
Fic rec Friday
The Best Part of Waking Up by scullyphile (@scullyphile) (E) 2.5k I usually gravitate to Human AUs but I could not resist this short, deeply erotic shapeshifter fic. "When he opened the cupboard and reached for his favourite mug..." I won't say more because it's quite a surprise! How My Light is Spent by Azira_Amane E 19k Crowley is a physics professor navigating the world with his seeing eye dog Bentley. Aziraphale is working in a cafe as he tries to get his life back together after an apartment fire. I just adore them in this not-very-slow burn.
Figuring It Out by Leviosally468 E 41K I've seen this in other rec this list week so I'm happy it's getting some attention! Az is trying something new: nude modeling for an art class. Crowley is a struggling artist with a keen eye for life drawing, especially one body in particular.
Wrecked by snae_b (@snae-bfor Outrageous_Ring 25k 9/20 WIP E. Just noticed how many chapters there will be and I'm terribly excited! 1994 rural Arkansas, demo derby drivers slow burn. Updated weekly. Anchored by @curiouspupsicle E WIP 4/27 Updated multiple times a week(!!) This will do for boat racing what Rainbow Road did for F1 i.e. teach you to love a sport while taking you on a beautiful (sailing!) journey. Love the characters and world and facts right out of the gate and every chapter's a joy! Highly recommend coming on board.

Love listening to storytellers. Do you think we fan fic writers should host an evening where folks get a chance to "tell" the stories we love and have not yet written?
I saw a sign at a nearby village advertising a "veillée", a storytelling evening, which sounded intriguing, so I went out of curiosity—it turned out to be an old lady who had arranged a circle of chairs in her garden and prepared drinks, and who wanted to tell folk tales and stories from her youth. Apparently she was telling someone at the market the other day that she missed the ritual of the "veillée" from pre-television days, when people would gather in the evening and tell stories, and the people she was talking to were like, well let's do a veillée! And then she put up the sign.
About 15 people came, and she sat down and started telling us stories—I loved the way she made everything sound like it had happened just yesterday and she was there, even tales she'd got from her grandmother, and the way she continually assumed we knew all the people she mentioned, and everyone spontaneously played along; she'd be like "And Martin, the bonesetter—you know Martin," (everyone nods—of course, Martin) "We never liked him much" and everyone nodded harder, our collective distaste for Martin now a shared cultural heritage of our tiny microcosm. She started with telling us the story of the communal bread oven in the village. The original oven was destroyed during the Revolution; people used to pay to use the local aristocrat's oven, but of course around 1789 both the aristocrat and his oven were disposed of in a glorious blaze of liberty, equality, and complete lack of foresight.
Then the villagers felt really daft for having destroyed a perfectly serviceable oven that they could have now started using for free. "But you know what things were like during the revolution." (Everyone nodded sagely—who among us hasn't demolished our one and only source of bread-baking equipment in a fit of revolutionary zeal?)
The village didn't have a bread oven for decades, people travelled to another village to make bread; and then in the 19th century the village council finally voted to build a new oven. It was a communal endeavour, everyone pitched in with some stones or tools or labour, and the oven was built—but it collapsed immediately after the construction was finished. Consternation. Not to be deterred, people re-built the oven, with even more effort and care—and the second one also collapsed.
People realised that something was amiss, and the village council convened. After a lot of serious discussion, during which no one so much as mentioned the possibility of a structural flaw, people reached the only logical conclusion: the drac had sabotaged their oven. Twice. (The drac, in these parts, is the son of the devil.) The logic here, I suppose, was that no one but the devil's own child would dare to stand between French people and their bread.
The next step was even more obvious: they passed around a hat to raise money, assuming the devil’s son was after a cash donation. But (and I'm skipping a few twists and turns of the story here) the son of the devil did not want money, he wanted half of every batch of bread, for as long as the village oven stood. Consternation.
People simply could not afford to give away half of their bread, and were about to abandon the idea of having their own oven altogether—but then Saint Peter came to the rescue. (In case you didn't know, Saint Peter happens to regularly visit this one tiny village in the French countryside to check that its inhabitants are doing okay and are not encountering oven issues.) Saint Peter reminded them of one precious piece of information they had overlooked: holy water burns the devil.
People re-built the oven, for the third time. The son of the devil returned, to destroy it and/or claim his half of the first batch—but on that day, the villagers had organised a grand communal spring cleaning, dousing every street and alley in the village with copious amounts of holy water. The poor drac simply could not access the oven; every possible path scorched his feet for reasons he couldn't quite explain. So he was standing there, smouldering gently and wondering what was going on, when some passing tramp seemed to take pity on him, pointed at his satchel and told him to turn himself into a rat and jump in there, and the tramp would carry him where he wished to go. The devil's son, probably a bit frazzled at this point, agreed without much thought, became a rat and jumped in the satchel, and of course that's the point when everyone in the village sprang from the shadows, wielding sticks, shovels, pans, and started beating the devil's son senseless. (Old lady, calmly: "You could hear his bones crack.") So the son of Satan slithered back to Hell and never returned to destroy the village oven again—and the spring cleaning tradition endured; the streets were washed with holy water once a year after that, both to commemorate this glorious day of civic resistance when the village absolutely bodied the devil's offspring and to maintain basic oven safety standards. (Old lady: "But we don't bother anymore… That's too bad.")
She told us five stories, most of them artfully blending actual local events or anecdotes from her youth with folk tale elements, it was so delightful. She thanked us for coming and said she'd love to do this again sometime. I went home reflecting that listening to an old lady happily tell stories of dubious historical veracity involving the Revolution, property damage, demonic mischief and baffling municipal decision-making is literally my ideal Saturday night activity.

Good Omens Fan Fiction Friday (7/18/25) - Sweet
Last week, I broke from my norms and shared darker fics that I loved despite the tags. (Yeah, I know. Compared to lots of stuff out there, my recs are barely gray. Despite formerly "enjoying" films like Un Chien Andalou that literally caused audience members to vomit, my tastes have turned soft. Sue me.)
This week, I make up for it by sharing a small selection of "sweet" fics. What makes them sweet? When I finish them, that's the one-word description I add to my spreadsheet.
Let's start with a fic that for me, epitomizes the theme: Putting the Endearment in Dear (G) by @joyandotherstories. From my spreadsheet: "Aziraphale starts referring to everyone as 'my dear' so he has an excuse to use it for Crowley. Through the Ages. No plot. Sweet. LOVED it! Very emotional. Left me in tears at the end."
Just above it in alphabetical order is Putting the "Bet" in "Betrothed" (T) by @rogue-bard and just as fond a favorite. Aziraphale and Crowley make a bet over who can abstain from miracles the longest. It's as funny as you'd expect. A fine extra are the humans commenting on the action. And yeah, it's sweet.
In Sauntering Through Space and Time (E) by @slurpi13, Crowley uses the excuse of needing to stick close after the Armageddon't to convince Aziraphale to stay in his room while he sleeps. He discovers that he actually sleeps better when the angel is nearby. If you're soft for Aziraphale being tender to a sleeping Crowley, you'll love this one.
When Aziraphale and Crowley return to the bookshop after the Armageddon't, they find Adam has returned nearly everything back to normal. Except now there's a marriage contract on the wall. Slow (T) by write-away/@theirdarkreturning finds Aziraphale rushing forward with the idea of being married while Crowley worries about going too fast. How could it be anything but sweet?
AppleSeeds has written many fics I'd call sweet. But I'm happy to shout out Subtle Escalation (T). Years ago, Crowley published historical fiction about two men (a bookseller and a herbalist) who shared an intimate, asexual bond. He wants to revisit the characters so he offers to write fan fiction for Fandom Trumps Hate and ends up working with Aziraphale. This fic is very meta and so terribly sweet.
The War of the Pie Dish (G) by sodium_aizde/ @sodiumazideandothertoxins is literally as sweet as pie. Crowley moves into a new flat and finds a treat at his door in a beautiful, blue pie dish. Thus begins the "war" in which the pair pass the plate back and forth with new treats. Amazingly, the pair don't meet through most of this fic and it's still achingly sweet.
Let's toss in a WIP from the delightful @on1occasionfork, Thus Saith the Lord (E). After averting the Second Coming, the pair go on a road trip in the Bentley. I've always loved a road trip story. And this one is a fun travelogue. But it got the "sweet" label in chapter 13, “You,” the demon says, his voice rough and so close to Aziraphale that he can feel the movement of lips against his ear. “You are what I enjoy. I enjoy watching you enjoy things. Taking you places that you like. Seeing you indulge. You make me happy.” Did I need to take a moment after reading this (and after typing it into this post)? Maybe.
Next up is a loaf of bread, a jug of wine, and thou (T) by Chash. In 6000 years, the principality Aziraphale and demon Crowley have never met. But Hell wants reality television to stay corrupt. And Heaven wants to protect one of their greatest assets, The Great British Bake-Off. The pair compete against each other on behalf of their home offices. And once they meet? Well, let's just say that it's not just the baked goods that are sweet.
Finally, I just started reading a new fic. I'm not even finished yet and I already know it's going to end up bookmarked as a favorite. I couldn't let this post go live without including it. It's I REALLY FUCKING LOVE YOU (M) by @thisisshiny. Inspired by fan favorite, Flowers for Anthony, this fic finds Crowley waking up dead and confused. The angel in charge of helping him find his final resting place seems to recognize him. So the two work together to figure out the mystery. It's funny. It's a lovely homage to London. And it's so very sweet. Is this list far too short for the theme? Absolutely. There are no shortage of "sweet" fics in the Good Omens fandom. But I gotta, y'know, eat, work, and walk my dog. So it ends here. Which of your favorite "sweet" fics did I miss? Reblog and share links in the comments to give them a shout out. I love getting new recs.
I'll be back next Friday with more great Good Omens fan fics on a new theme. In the meantime, check out my other favorite fics on this pinned post of weekly Good Omens fan fiction recommendations. And if my faves appear to be your faves, check out my bookmarks on AO3--all the fics I rate in my top 10% of everything I've read.
Don't forget to nurture the fan fic community. Share kudos and comments to show the many wonderful creators how much we appreciate them. Writing is a lonely hobby. Let's encourage the hard working writers we love so much.

New Chapter of Anchored - Scuttlebutt
From this chapter's summary:
Previously, Crowley and Aziraphale arrived at the North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort, North Carolina, for an interview and photoshoot for World Sailing magazine. Crowley's agent, Bea, informed him that his boss, Nik, expected him to savage his rival.
In this chapter, Crowley and Aziraphale face a rude reporter determined to get the better of them. They have surprises in store--for him, and each other.

C'mon, you know you want to read it. Crowley defying death filming viral sailboat stunts? Aziraphale defying everyone's expectations (especially Crowley's) at every turn? And sailing lore--so much sailing lore. If you read, make sure to click both links for Alex Thomson's mast walk. You won't want to miss seeing the inspiration for this story. Fic is entirely written and I will post new chapters every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Chapter 4- Scuttlebutt is here.

Guess That Fic!
This WIP is nearly complete. But I believe the writers have more in store for us when this story ends. It's a charming story in which the male leads aren't afraid to be soft with the young people in their orbit. Do you recognize it from the references in the comment?
Answer below the fold.
Paging Dr Fell (E) by @whatareyou42 and Puddinpocalypse (ValarMorghulis508)
What's not to love about Aziraphale as an emergency room pediatrician? Love the way he "magics" up stickers for his young patients. If you check it out, don't forget to leave kudos and comments. Fan fic writers give us these treats on top of working, attending school, caring for loved ones, and just lifing. Make sure they know how much we appreciate them.

The Trouble with HELL (18/19)
A GO Podcasters/Investigators AU (rating: E)

The Trouble with HELL by beerok23
Summary:
Award-winning true crime podcast Va-voom, sorted! has been on hiatus since his author, Anthony Crowley, has published his first murder mystery, Murder on the M25. When his associate Nina begs him to follow a story on a train crash, he meets PI Aziraphale Eastgate, and he soon realises that the charming Apparition in tartan is the real voice behind his favourite podcast, Mr Fell's Mystery Haven. Crowley can't possibly imagine that Aziraphale is starting his own true crime podcast to investigate the same story. Feeling the pressure of competition, Crowley goes back to his first love and wages a Podcast War against the angel until they both realise that the case is bigger than they originally thought. With so much at stake, will they keep working against each other, or will they put their differences aside and learn to trust one another to uncover the truth?
Chapter 18/19: Out of the Closet (and into the Closet) (5.4k words)
Summary: Our boys attend an Award ceremony. Regardless of who’s going to win, things will get steamy.
Excerpt from Chapter 18:
“You know you’re going to win, right?” “Don’t be silly, my dear. No podcast about literature ever wins in that category, it’s all about the Arts and less about the Culture.” They were in the lobby of the O2 Arena, waiting for the ceremony to start. Aziraphale had always claimed he didn’t care for awards, and he still firmly stood by this statement. But Crowley had a completely different opinion on the matter. “I was talking about Finding Clues, Aziraphale,” Crowley chuckled at his obvious attempt to ease the tension. “Just promise me you won’t be disappointed if you don’t win, darling.” “I will be very disappointed if you don’t win, angel. I will burn this place to the ground.” “I wouldn’t expect anything less from a so-called demon.” “See you after the thing?” Crowley asked, trying to sound as casual as possible. Aziraphale nodded his assent with a sheepish smile on his face. “I’ll sit with Ana and Maggie on the right side.” Crowley looked at him unconvinced. “Isn’t the angel supposed to be on the left side?” Aziraphale chuckled. “If you consider the viewer’s point of view, sure. But the demon is the one on the left shoulder, Crowley.” Crowley gaped at him and shook his head in horror. “See? That’s why I wanted you to proofread the manuscript. Oh fuck, this is just GREAT, now I have to go back and reread my draft from the start, because I think I messed it all up.”

Buddy Boating - WIP Wednesday
I'm having so much fun writing Boat Omens stories I can't stop myself. Read a snippet below the pic (apparently I struggle with object permanence; something doesn't really exist unless someone else can see it).

Introducing femme sailors, Azira and Toni:
Azira stood on her left foot, balancing on one shower shoe while trying to slip her right foot into the leg of her capris without dragging them on the wet floor. While she appreciated access to nearly unlimited hot water, public showers were never as relaxing as a short, solar shower in her cockpit.
It would be easier to dress in the common dressing area. But Toni was already there. A quick glimpse of those long legs, and beautiful arms and shoulders not hidden by the long Turkish towel Toni had tied around her chest made Azira suddenly self-conscious. She wasn’t sure what she’d say or do without a door between the two of them. So she continued to struggle in the close space.
One leg in, Azira switched to her right foot on the shower shoe and repeated the awkward attempt to slip on the other leg. Achievement unlocked, she slid both feet into the correct shower shoes and grabbed a fresh t-shirt from the bag hanging on the door’s hook. Her gaze was caught by movement seen through the crack in the door. It was Toni pulling black lacy panties over her hips before untying her towel and tossing it over the nearest door. Azira couldn’t help admiring Toni’s lack of self-consciousness as she combed her fingers through her wet curls, her small breasts and toned belly practically calling out, “Hey, look over here. Aren’t we beautiful?”
Azira looked down at her own body, feeling anything but unselfconscious. She had always been curvy. But her post-menopausal body included a tummy she never had before. She knew her breasts benefitted from the support of a bra. Not that it was enough to convince her to wear one. She joked that the main reason she moved onto a boat was so she’d never have to wear shoes or a bra again.
By the time she slipped a fresh shirt on, gathered her things, and opened the shower compartment door, Toni was dressed in a gauzy, midnight blue sundress. Azira guessed enviously that dresses were much more comfortable in hot weather when your thighs didn’t rub together.
Azira smiled as Toni caught her eye. “Ready to go?”
“Sure, Angel. Let’s see what kind of trouble we can get into in Elizabeth City.”
I think it's better than Anchored. The result of more practice? Helpful notes from beta readers like @spectrallydistracted, @altsernative, and @searching4sarahtonin? Is it because I really like writing women? Or all of the above?

I disagreed with the writer in the comments about the smut (and really, smut isn't quite the right word) being skippable. Sure, it doesn't advance the plot. But it's written so beautifully to reveal some wonderful characterization for this lovely pair. So, if you don't have to skip the chapter to preserve your mental health, I'd suggest you not. And if you aren't reading this fic, why not? It's nearly finished. It's a charming read. Adding on my usual reminder--remember to share kudos and comments when you read. Fic writers and artists take a lot of time to bring us amazing stories and art. Let them know how much we appreciate them by nurturing them and the fan fic community.
Consummation
Aziraphale broke the silence. “I want you.”
Always direct, his angel. Crowley tried to reply, but all that came out was a smattering of consonants.
***** Yeah, that’s all for an excerpt this week – this story is earning its E-rating in this chapter. Sweet, silly, smutty domestic fluff. Entirely skippable if this isn’t your thing.
– Read chapter 27 (Consummation) on ao3. – Or start Dead Right from the beginning!
Fic notes: Angst-free (mostly), complete tooth-rotting fluff, fake marriage, pining-while-married AU, rated E (but all spicy sections will be skippable).
Thank you to my wonderful betas @beerok23 and @unicornbeck, as well as to all you lovely people who give me no end of support! 💕
