Day 3: Luckless
So I learned more from FL tutroials today. I can tell I’m getting faster, but I’m not confident enough in my drum making or EQ skills. There’s a ton I could improve in this track, but since I’m trying to “finish” a song everyday I’m forcing myself to leave things like this unfinished. I could seriously spend weeks tweeking this minute and a half song and that’s not necessarily a good thing.
This started out with a piano loop I made spindled up on the keyboard then shifted up a key. Added the bass, some rudimentary drums, then the sax which was fun to play with. I tried reusing some “parts” from the first part of the song since I was unsure how to advance and I know most of the time you borrow something from the earlier part of the song as you go forward. What we have is another...thing that I don’t really know what it’s trying to express. I kind of imagined it playing in a coffee house but then a string section comes in and that’s out the window. Maybe one day I’ll know what I’m doing.

Day 2: Ashwater Island
I thought of this as the theme for a place that was very lonely and isolated, but not completely devoid of hope. It also started out in a D major chord but somehow went off course I think.
Still not loving it, but I can’t keep working on it or else it’ll be weeks of EQing instead of doing something new. I know so many things aren’t right; it’s too loud, it’s not properly panned or EQ’d and it’s really obvious I keep reusing the same song structure again and again.
Think of songs as “paragraphs.” Most composers start with words when they start a song, but I can’t help but start with whole “sentences.” I don’t know what to do with those sentences after I make them, though, so I end up with only a few sentences compared to other composers who use their words to make lots of sentences for their paragraph while mine is only 2 or 3 sentences long.
I’ve got to start using things in a more basic level.

Day 1: Muddy Clouds
I made a fun melody on my keyboard that became the chorus of this song. I struggled to find a mood for this after I made the loop, a problem that happens often. After fiddling around with some instruments it turned into this odd, hip-hop and strings inspired diddly. It doesn’t really have a message and doesn’t even follow proper song structure, but maybe the aimlessness was the point? I’ll never tell.

The Start
Welcome to my challenge blog. I’m aiming to make at least one song a day for, I dunno, ever? I want to see how long I can do it and if I improve. And away we go.
