JADEN: It’s crazy, the sibling dynamic. I could’ve spent my entire childhood like, “I have to love this person.” And it becomes a chore. But our parents were never like, “You have to love them.” It was more like, “You have your life. He has his life. And when you guys want to come together, when you guys want to commune, that’s up to you.” And throughout us realizing ourselves and realizing each other, we just opened our eyes and were like, “Damn, you are the yin to my yang.” Not a lot of siblings have that opportunity, because they’re always being pushed together so much. They need their time apart in order to realize themselves and realize who they are. PHARRELL: Has there ever been, like, some love-based competition? JADEN: We never really felt competitive because Willow’s always been better than me at everything. There’s been no competition. WILLOW: [laughs] Pharrell, that is so not true.

I had the opportunity to attend one of the most important Wixárika celebrations “The Wixárika Holy Week”; celebration that takes place each year in Teteikie , a small Huichol community located in the region of Mezquitic in Jalisco, Mexico. This celebration is marked by the return of pilgrims from Wirikuta, which is one of the most sacred territories in the Wixaritari culture; within the worldview of Wixárika indigenous is believed that the sun came out for the first time in Wirikuta and all that lives and dwells in that territory is sacred. Today this territory is in dispute because the federal government of Mexico has awarded most of the territory to Canadian companies for mining in the área; exploitation that has not been carried out thanks to struggle and dissemination for the protection of Wirikuta sacred region. The pilgrimage that the Huicholes made ​​from the Sierra Madre Occidental of Jalisco to The Quemado hill in the plateau of San Luis Potosi is as ancient as the rituals that take place along the road, which are guided by maraka’ames ( shamans or spiritual guides) ending with Hikuri (peyote) pickup, which is taken back to their communities to perform the cosmic representation of the cycle of life. For one week the town celebrates Wixarika Holly Week in big, performing rituals, parties, veiled, animal sacrifices, traditional dances  and heavy consumption of hikuri and tejuino (fermented corn beverage).

Tuve la oportunidad de asistir a una de las celebraciones más importantes del Pueblo Wixárika “La Semana Santa Wixárika”; celebración que se lleva a cabo cada año en Teteikie, una pequeña comunidad huichol ubicada en el municipio de Mezquitic en Jalisco, México.

Esta celebración es marcada por el retorno de los peregrinos de Wirikuta, el cual es un de los territorios más sagrados para la cultura Wixaritari; dentro de la cosmovision de los indígenas Wixárika se cree que el sol salió por vez primera en Wirikuta y todo lo que vive y habita en ese territorio es Sagrado. En la actualidad dicho territorio se encuentra en conflicto ya que el gobierno federal de México ha concesionado gran parte del territorio a empresas canadienses para la explotación minera de la zona, explotación que no se ha llevado acabo gracias a lucha y difusión para la protección de la región sagrada de Wirikuta. La peregrinación que los indígenas huicholes realizan desde la Sierra Madre Occidental de Jalisco hasta el cerro Quemado en el altiplano Potosino es tan milenaria como los rituales que se realizan a lo largo del camino, el cual es guiado por los maraka’ames (chamanes o guías espirituales) que termina con la recolección del Hikuri, el cual es llevado de regreso a sus comunidades para realizar la representación cosmogónica del ciclo de la vida. Durante una semana el pueblo Wixarika celebra en grande la Semana Santa Wixárika haciendo rituales, veladas, sacrificios animales, bailes a demás de consumirse en abundancia tejuino y hikuri.
