btw with art when people say 'youve got to do it scared' 'youve got to draw bad' 'youre not gonna know how to do it until you do it' it sounds like bullshit but its true. 90% of art is just getting over the fear that it's not going to be good enough to deserve to be made in the first place. but you're here. you're alive and, with no need to justify that, you're going to make art. it's just part of being alive. you'll spend so long worrying you aren't doing it good enough that you'll look back and realized you didn't live a single day of it.

This is the second friend to pass this year. I'm sad, because Minika was one of the brightest, talented, most amazing people I've ever met.
She gave me so much fabric before she left NYC , that fabrics from her collection will be showing up in my work for years to come.
So in a way I'll be thinking of her every time I start a new textile project and open up my fabric storage.

This was an insanely difficult project to complete but I am most proud of it this year. I look forward to doing more textile work in the coming year.

Honestly people clown a lot on "silly" art like duct taped bananas and bricks and gold foil toilets/urinals. And when I was younger I did too.
I mean... Why do people bother standing around spending half an hour to an hour debating the meaning of a golden toilet? Who cares right?
It wasn't until I was in my 30s and an artist myself, someone who both created original artwork and engaged in fandom for many years, that I understood the purpose of things like that, while facing an iron of all things.
First off... Yeah, it is jarring, it stands out. When you see an object you did not expect to see in a setting it doesn't belong to, of course it is going to stand out. And in the art world, you WANT to stand out, because if you don't, you aren't going to sell.
And it's fun to have a giggle and be bewildered and ask what on earth is that? What were they thinking? Why this here?
But the longer you look at it, the more you start to wonder. What was the meaning, what was the message? How does it make me feel? What is it trying to say?
And heck, even if the artist had no deeper intentions and just put something wild and unexpected and uncomfortable out simply for the sake of doing it... There's nothing wrong with finding meaning in it for yourself. After all, we do that fairly regularly while engaging with fandoms.

You guys seemed to like this one a lot so here's some better photos. The orange is 3d because I used puffy fabric paint to create that effect. The rocks are malachite chips.
