Presenting my most recently completed commission, for the Albion Arn sword by Albion Swords Limited LLC
A 'fantasy' style transport scabbard, this one is in a custom ox blood featuring a custom handpainted heraldric style emblem at the throat, and cross-hatch pattern below. The chape is a cast bronze, and features several elements of design that compliment the sword.
I recently had a wonderful visit to New Glarus, Wisconsin. I also had the privilege & honor to be given a VIP tour of Albion Swords. I was able to see first hand the company I have been working with for the past 17 years. I visited each department, observed the process, and had many questions answered.
Most importantly, I met each and every employee. I shook hands, talked, and learned. I watched the process, and discovered more than just a company. I discovered a family within. An incredible group of individuals meticulously crafting in a way only skilled artisans can. A small tight-knit group working for a company in a niche market, creating the finest swords in the world.
I left proudly knowing I am associated with such a fine company, but also outstanding individuals that love what they do and excel at it. Whenever I am asked where the finest swords in the world are made, I have always and for the foreseeable future, proudly say Albion Swords does.
I have a sword I’d love to have a scabbard made for eventually. If you have time, can I ask- what does the commission process look like, what price range can I expect, I would think customers send you their sword during the process- is that correct, and how do we creatively collaborate to make the design? Also would you be able to re-wrap the hilt to match? Thank you so much for your time I think your work is absolutely beautiful.
Hi, many questions can be answered on my website here - https://dbkcustomswords.com/ordering.html as for the rest; the design process is done by submitting to me what you would like, and I come up with a proof of concept for approval, or changes. Design & implementation is an hourly charge. Most give me a budget to work within, others just give me the keys and let me roll. I don’t offer hilt wraps at this time, and I focus solely on scabbards.
Have you ever tried making a gladius (Roman sword)?
I make the scabbards, not the swords. I am a custom scabbard maker. However, I don’t make Roman style scabbards. I specialize in 12th - 16th century medieval builds.
This one was a fun project, with an open book in terms of design, with influneces from Lord of the Rings, and mythology in general. I hope you enjoy it.
