They reform about the same time, so kind of become a duo within the Rogues, and James is often somewhat protective of Hartley, and to be honest, with how Countdown ends you can see threads of him being in love with Hartley going right back to at least 1989. During Countdown, Trickster and Piper wind up being chained together, and Trickster starts acting like the most closeted man alive, only to eventually seem to come to terms with being in love with him, calling him by his first name for the first time, and then, when Deadshot attempts to murder Hartley, he throws himself in front of him while shouting "not him, not now!"

DC editorial was, incidentally, completely blindsided by this, weren't even aware James was going to die, and proceeded to refuse to allow him to have any major role in any comic for nearly a decade, which is incredibly suspicious you have to admit.

And throwing himself between Piper and danger isn't anything new (from a 90s comic):

The Justice League's weird autistic uncles. Dating a telepath would fix 90% of Bruce's relationship troubles. J'onn almost always goes to Bruce when he has a problem, and Bruce has a tremendous amount of genuinely adoration and respect for J'onn, especially for his kindness, even in the face of great tragedy and loss, and his dedication to justice. J'onn finds a home on Earth, and a family in Bruce. They both get the space they need to heal from their painful pasts and grieve the ones they lost. J'onn would empathise with Bruce's grief , and Bruce would understand the pain of losing people from something you couldn't control. (J'onn's wife and daughter died due to the plague that wiped out the Martians). J'onn would be a good step father. They both have complicated relationships with identity. They're both detectives. They both love a mystery. They're defined by trauma but trying to move past it. Also, Bruce likes them powerful, and J'onn is crazy overpowered. They call the Justice League 'our children'. When J'onn asks what Bruce wants for his birthday, Bruce says he'd like J'onn to come and visit him. They are so so married.

Cassandra Cain/Brenda Miller:

Brenda is literally the first civilian Cass gets close to. Cass spends the entirety of Batgirl (2000) basically refusing to let herself have any civillian life. To the point where early on Babs APOLOGIZED to Cass for calling her ‘Cass’ and not Batgirl. But Brenda… Brenda and Cass click and she’s Cass’s first civilian friend, and the friend she makes in the aftermath of her Graig of Steph and leaving Gotham. Brenda invites Cass to a party, borderline flirts with her, and they have fun! Also, Brenda is one of the few people Cass EVER opens up to about David Cain and they bond over shitty fathers!! And this convo with Brenda is what sparks Cass’s interest in figuring out her mom (though that bit of the convo is written weird I’ll give you). Also when Bludhaven is bombed Cass spares not one thought for her milqutoast love I treat and instead grieves Brenda.

Also I think Cass should date a hot woman who’s been to jail. Good for her.
