I'm tired. I'm tired of having to be an adult now now now now. I'm tired of just being that age and my dad is expecting full independence from me. I'm tired of driving being shoved down my throat. Of graduation and academics too. Of being expected to know how to care for myself with a parent who doesn't even know how to do the same. I was never taught. Yet I'm expected to know. I've fought for things but when those things fall out of my control, I get blamed for not doing enough or finding another way.
My dad says I need to learn to not submit to things outside of my control. That's pretty damn hard when that's all this house taught me I could do. When your opinions are louder than mine, and therefore "correct", I just have to shut my mouth for you to not escalate. And then you take silence as an attack.
I fear your anger. You know that. I know you see how I flinch when you get in my face to yell.
Sometimes I think it's not just the anger I fear, but you.

You don't have to force yourself to bounce back so quickly. I read something recently that said "when you come in from a rainstorm, you don't expect yourself to be dry and warm right away", and it really resonated with me. It's okay to take time to dry off and warm up. Take the time you need to process what happened to you.

Since a friend seems to think it’s ok to be neutral/positive towards people who have and are actively hurting us and them just because they "dont want to stir up drama" despite it getting to the point of filing multiple reports on these people
CICERO ON INJUSTICE – De Officiis, Book I
Active Injustice
“There are, on the other hand, two kinds of injustice — the one, on the part of those who inflict wrong…”
“For he who, under the influence of anger or some other passion, wrongfully assaults another seems, as it were, to be laying violent hands upon a comrade.”
“But in any case of injustice it makes a vast deal of difference whether the wrong is done as a result of some impulse of passion, which is usually brief and transient, or whether it is committed wilfully and with premeditation; For offences that come through some sudden impulse are less culpable than those committed designedly and with malice aforethought.”
“Injustice often arises also through chicanery — that is, through an over-subtle and even fraudulent construction of the law. This it is that gave rise to the now familiar saw: ‘More law, less justice.’”
Passive Injustice
“The other [kind of injustice is] on the part of those who, when they can, do not shield from wrong those upon whom it is being inflicted.”
“He who does not prevent or oppose wrong, if he can, is just as guilty of wrong as if he deserted his parents or his friends or his country.”
“The motives for failure to prevent injury and so for slighting duty are likely to be various: People either are reluctant to incur enmity or trouble or expense; or through indifference, indolence, or incompetence, or through some preoccupation or self-interest they are so absorbed that they suffer those to be neglected whom it is their duty to protect.”
“There are some also who, either from zeal in attending to their own business or through some sort of aversion to their fellow-men, claim that they are occupied solely with their own affairs…But while they steer clear of the one kind of injustice, they fall into the other: they are traitors to social life, for they contribute to it none of their interest, none of their effort, none of their means.”
Final Note
“It is not an easy matter to be really concerned with other people’s affairs.”
But justice demands we try.

why is substance abuse common in people with personality disorders?
{this post is not here to encourage substance use of any form}
the answer is probably what you’d expect. people with severe mental health problems, especially personality disorders, are incredibly prone to abusing drugs and/or alcohol.
this is even noted within the DSM5 framework for personality disorders itself, to the point where in an assessment for a personality disorder you’ll usually be asked about any history regarding drugs.
this also goes for a lot of other mental health conditions as well. generally-speaking, mental illness is one of the biggest reasons people use substances in the first place.
doesn’t it just make things worse?
in a lot of ways, yes.
obviously repeated misuse of substances makes you highly susceptible to addiction, which comes with its own plethora of problems and changes to your behaviour, but drugs can also worsen some mental health issues and even cause new psychological problems.
so why would anyone resort to that?
there are a lot of reasons people might fall into substance abuse as a way of coping with mental illness. it can provide a temporary escape from life’s cruelties and, once again especially with personality disorders, is frequently used to try and numb yourself from your traumas.
it is in no way a good decision to make, nor one that i would advise for numerous reasons. it can worsen your mental health problems, damage your quality of life further, cause permanent issues with your physical health, ruin relationships and cause death amongst numerous other things. but it’s important that you also remember not to demonise people who do use. they have their own reasons for using and nobody chooses addiction.
when reality is hard people search for escapes and solutions elsewhere, even in the form of their own destruction.

Another insightful video by the same psychologist! Here, he calls out the hypocrisy of “narc abuse” and how it is not an accurate/true description. He defends his stance on pwNPD not being inherently abusive.
youtube
I have similar posts where I’ve shared some of his videos:
post 1
post 2
I recommend checking him out! He has a bit of a small following, but I’ve seen him mentioned in Cluster B spaces before. He’s a kind and understanding person who wants to educate people on NPD (he specialises in NPD).

☆in combatting ableism one must also understand that being an "attention seeker" does not, on its own, make someone a bad person & that wanting / seeking attention is not inherently a negative trait or a moral failing

Being histrionic and getting into conflict is so funny, because it’s a 50/50 on how I’ll react. Either, I have the best supply high ever or I’ll be RSD-ridden.

Sunflower Seeds ; a poem about having HPD
Sunflower seeds
Stuck in my teeth,
Chipping at me,
At my lips ’til I bleed.
I smile too wide,
I cry too loud
Please, I beg,
Just look at me.
I beg with my body,
I beg with my grin,
Twisting myself
To be let in.
Teach me your moves,
Your tone, your pace,
So I can mimic
A human face.
Sunflower shells
Cut my tongue raw,
But the pain is proof
That I still saw
A flicker of gaze,
A second too long.
Enough to keep
The act going strong.
I want to be real,
I want to belong.
But no one claps
When the curtains stay drawn.
