Really enjoying skimming through Someone Said Something Mean About Me: The Novel by Tim Martin. The greatest example of how a capitalist society should run since my personal favourite Atlas Shrugged.

Of course, Prime Minister Boris Johnson was not aware that having a birthday party last June was in contravention of lockdown regulations. It's not like he makes the rules.

We need the proles back in the factories. Or wherever they work... Is the 19th century over?
The government talks about learning to live with covid, but all that's happened is they've persuaded enough people to ignore the risk of death and disability which comes with letting covid rip through the population.

Don't worry, we'll raise taxes on those least able to pay them.

Labour have a few good polls and then they’re suddenly advocating death squads.

We know that many people are struggling under the Cost of Living Crisis. This is inevitable if we are going to fight Russia, because there is no way to support ordinary workers when we are sanctioning a genocidal regime. To help you through this hard time, we will be raising National Insurance contributions, which disproportionately affect the poorest earners. You're welcome.

We at the Government of the United Kingdom, led by the Conservative and Unionist Party, hate you. Please pay more National Insurance. Thank you.

a ferry company in the UK made 800 workers redundant with no notice, via a pre-recorded zoom call today (17-Mar-22), intending to replace them with “cheaper” (read: exploited, underpaid) agency workers.
in UK law, this is illegal, but the company is ran from the UAE and I’m pretty sure the boats ran from Cyprus. redundancy is different from firing as it’s getting rid of the job, not the person. there is a grace period before that job can be re-advertised - in UK law, anyway. UK law also states that the government needs 45 days’ notice if a business plans on letting more than 100 workers go. the government, despite everything, has openly said that this wasn’t the case.
there isn’t a point to this post, other than stating that this happened. and, yes, I fully believe that this is a result of Brexit and the changes which occurred surrounding employment laws, in case anyone tries to be clever.
