owl city as an artist is so fascinating to me because his concerts attract such an even split of christians and visibly queer young people. and like, i get it, i went to my first owl city concert as the former and my second as the latter. but the way his audience seems to be almost entirely those two demographics and it seems to be such even split just fascinates me.

The timing of this post is sort of apt, as one year ago today, all ARG winners (including me) got the studio door version of Kelly Time for 3 hours. Fast forward to a few days after the track is officially out to the rest of the world. Back when Adam first uploaded the lyric video for "Kelly Time", he used a different, rough version of the song with several different instruments and drum sections not found on the current streaming version. This is my attempt to remaster that alternate version of the song so that it's on par in loudness and quality with the streaming version.

Special thanks to Jeremiah Dench on YouTube for his version that turned the drums down a bit. I started with this version in Audacity and limited the track so that the drum peaks weren't as loud as the other instruments. I then turned the whole sound down a few decibels before feeding into Matchering, using a CD rip of the album version of Kelly Time as the reference. This is Matchering's result, exported as an MP3.

And yes, this is a teaser for a year-end post that is LONG overdue... Stay tuned to this space!

Back in June of 2007 it kind of started on a whim. My parents were away for the weekend, and wanting to be loud and make some noise and whatever, I began writing versions of what became my first, self released digital EP – Of June. I put it up on MySpace the following month and didn’t tell anyone. — Adam Young

ITS FINALLY DONE OH MY GOD

I've spent on-and-off chunks of time over the past 3 months making quizzes on the website Sporcle for the lyrics to ALL of Owl City's songs and I'm FINALLY DONE!!

There are a few I left off that don't really work (namely January 28, 1986, which is just the intro to Galaxies and is only a few lines from Reagan's speech after the Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster, and Mobile Orchestra, which is just an instrumental intro to that album). I also only made one version for songs released multiple times, unless the lyrics are significantly different between multiple versions (Like the two versions of Alligator Sky), so songs like Hello Seattle and The Saltwater Room only have one quiz each.

But anyways, if you want to play any of them, you can find them all HERE!! I put a ton of time into these so I'd love for you guys to try them out and let me know what you think of them! It was super fun to make them as well, so I hope you guys like them! :D

Btw I also have a lot of Beat Crusaders quizzes if anyone's interested in those lmao. And by a lot I mean 151 lyrics quizzes and 36 general quizzes abt their songs :']

I went to last night’s Owl City concert at the 9:30 club in DC. September 16th, 2023. It was a great experience!!! Adam played Hot Air Balloon, Cave In, Vanilla Twilight, Fireflies, Air Traffic, Captains and Cruise Ships, and several songs off Coco Moon.
