I didn’t want to correct you. I liked how we had something in common, so I started telling people to call me John Ambrose.

“Since we’re coming clean about stuff, you know how you call me John Ambrose?” “Everyone calls you that.” “I know. It’s because of you.”

Knock Down The House (2019)
When I was a little girl, my Dad wanted to go on a road trip with his buddies. I wanted to go so badly, and I begged and I begged, and he relented. And so it was like four grown men and a five-year-old girl went on this road trip from New York. We stopped… we stopped here. And it was a really beautiful day.

It’s a good time for political documentaries. With the 2020 election approaching, Americans across the country are cluing on different candidates’ positions and wondering which party might have the votes to bring home the presidency and/or Congress for the next term. But the 2018 midterm elections were exciting in their own right, propelling new rising stars like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) onto the political scene. On Monday, Netflix premiered the trailer for its upcoming documentary Knock Down the House, which profiled the 2018 campaigns of Ocasio-Cortez and other progressive congressional candidates.
The trailer focuses on four female candidates who ran in Democratic Party primaries in 2018. Each of them were driven to electoral politics by a compelling personal story. Ocasio-Cortez had to work double shifts as a bartender in order to help her family weather the financial crisis; Amy Vilela’s uninsured young daughter died after being denied emergency medical care; Cori Bush was inspired by the Ferguson protests against police brutality; and coal miner’s daughter Paula Jean Swearengin hated seeing her friends and family suffer from the environmental damage of the coal industry.

Kinda strange to watch half a room of men cheering, standing, and applauding for a bill against abortion while all the women sit motionless and silent. You’d think the male legislators would notice, but they don’t.
