oh i presume you are talking about the anti-tourist protests in barcelona, mallorca and other parts of spain this weekend?

well, i can't tell you not to visit spain, but i can certainly tell you to engage in ethical and sustainable tourism. bilbao is not as bad when it comes to tourism as other parts of spain, but for the europa league final, english tourists were vandalising bilbao, and that's not okay. just remember:

don't stay in air bnbs

don't eat at mcdonald's, taco bell, or any of the other foreign owned restaurants in town

shop local when you can

learn a few phrases in spanish, and if you're feeling motivated, basque, catalan, or any of the regions you are visiting.

try to visit at low season if you can

be empathetic with what locals are dealing with in their daily lives

i would just say to follow the tips above. the problem is not tourism itself. it's over-tourism and unethical tourism. and to add to the above, don't get so drunk that you engage in bad behaviour 🙏
